I want to include a JS snippet in a Wiki page.
I read this post:
Referencing javascript from trac wiki
and set rendering_unsafe_content = true under [wiki] and restarted the server.
I then placed this in a new/empty wiki page:
{{{
#!html

}}}
but, no alert when the page loads.
I've also tried this:
{{{
#!html

}}}
but that also doesn't work.
In both instances, the JS isn't even included in the rendered page (as determined by inspecting the content).
This would seem to be pretty straightforward, so I'm puzzled that its not working... can anyone tell me what I'm missing?
Thanks!
-Dave
#RjOlios answered it: I had a typo in the trac.ini. Should be "render_unsafe_content" not "rendering_unsafe_content", and correcting that typo makes JS work. Many thanks!
Also note that Trac seems to require a blank line before the line and an additional blank line after the line. Without these blank lines I find that the JS is not executed but rather rendered as text on the page.

I have two html files(index.html and project.html), index.html contain or needs two javascript files(main.js and index.js).
The main.js contains the functions that both html files needs. And the index.js has the functons that only index.html needs.
So am saying index.html-->(main.js,index.js) and project.html-->(main.js).
The issue is that when I open the project.html the DOM elements that I called in index.js is throwing errors saying that the element is null.
The thing is that the DOM element that is causing the error is only created in index.html and not project.html but project is not supposed to call or know that function.
index.html

project.html

This is where i get the error in the inspector. Note that the error comes from the project.html and it is caused by the index.js
I know that this is a bit confusing but this is the best i can explain it.
Thanks in advance!
Two things:
Note that all your

project.html

Example:
index.html needs main.js and index.js
project.html needs A CERTAIN function in main.js ONLY
so main.js
function functionsThatIndexNeeds() {
alert('Im in index.html!!!');
}
function functionsThatProjectNeeds() {
alert('IM IN PROJECTS~~~');
}
index.html

projects.html

The point is to call ONLY the functions that each HTML files need.
Tell me if this works on you!:)
Before we do anything start with clearing your cache. (Important)
If you are sure that you have done everything right, just like #Rounin answer suggest,
Then run your code again, inspect to make sure your error is coming from index.js and if it is, then you are somehow injecting index.js into the page without knowing , (maybe somewhere at the middle of your body or something else), you might have to do a more thorough debugging than just asking. And most probably you have not told us everything because you might not be aware of it.
Try searching for any occurrence of index.js on your project.html script. (Ctrl+F)
Now if all else fails and you have to move on fast, then u can try this hack on your index.html and index.js script.
Index.html

Put this on line 1, before anything else, because I don't know what line might be caising your problem
Then on index.js wrap your codes with an if statement (i.e put if statements to check if the page = "index" to prevent unwanted codes from running on other pages
E.g:
If (typeof page !== undefined && page == "index") {
// allow code to execute
}
This is a dirty hack, but it might kept you going until you get a more experience engineer to debug your codes...
Obviously, you must have something in main.js that is referencing DOM parts that are in index.html. Stop referencing those, and you'll be okay. Note, that if I have a DIV in index.html with ID foo which project.html does not have, then you can use document.querySelectorAll() function to check if that element exists (can look at length, returned from that, as well as other options like undefined), and then react if it doesn't exist. That can help you delineate items from index.html versus project.html.
I've been running into some problems that seem to arise from making my questionnaire a .PHP file rather than an .HTML. The reason I had to do this is because I'm using a PHP script for working with an SQL database and I had to include them into the Questionnaire, which won't work as an HTML.
In the HTML version everything runs perfectly the way I coded it. When I saved it as a .php file my javascript stopped working properly and I tried linking the javascript at the bottom of the body tag instead of the head and that still didn't help.
After a lot of going back and forth trying to see what's different I decided to save the .php file as an html just for grins and giggles to see if I still got the same problems. Oddly enough, it runs just as smooth as the other HTML file.
here's links to all 3 versions so you can see what I mean.
HTML v1
PHP
HTML v2
In the JS Console I got this error
Uncaught TypeError: Cannot set property 'onClick' of null
which referred me to line 163 of my .js file which is referencing the "next" button of the first page of the Questionnaire (not intro page that loads up but the next page where you actually input data).
The way I have the Questionnaire structured in the .PHP file is
<?php ini_set('display_errors','on'); ?><?php include('extlib/vdaemon/vdaemon.php'); ?>

//links to files etc.//

//all form inputs//

<?php VDEnd(); ?>

The entire Questionnaire has well over 100 individual inputs so I didn't want to put all of them in this snippet. I just wanted to show the over all structure, plus I figured you could get more details in the browser from clicking on them and looking at the debugger to see more of what's going on. Can anyone identify what I'm doing wrong with the PHP? I really don't understand why it's messing up the way it is.
In your html the code for the textarea is like this:

In your php the
The textarea closing tag is misplaced; coming after a lot of div's including the element with the id=p1_next. SO the divs just become part of the textarea value instead of being part of the HTML page
Edit: Looks like the real problem is that the DOM is broken. In your PHP file, you have a self-closed textarea tag. textarea tags need a closing tag.

Put Corp_ID_&_Branding_Questionnaire.js right before the body tag and it will work. The reason the PHP file is throwing a javascript error is because the node "p1_next" doesn't exist at runtime since your JS is in the head tag.
The reason it's working in the HTML file is mainly thanks to luck. The static HTML is loading fast enough that the DOM is ready by the time your JS code is running. As a thumb of rule, generally include all your JS right before the body tag. There are of course some exceptions.
If you really need to include your script in the head, you can wait until the DOM is ready by wrapping all your code with this:
$(document).ready(function() {
console.log( "ready!" );
// your JS code here
});
Last, if you're going to be using jQuery as a library, then it is recommended to use jQuery syntax instead of native JS. Just make sure to include the jQuery JS before your code.
var p1a = document.getElementById("p1_next");
// becomes:
var p1a = $('#p1_next'); // jQuery node by CSS selector
Before the end of the body tag like this:

..your code ..

..your code ..

I'm very new to JavaScript (just started a few hours ago and trying to get a script working). I went through a few tutorials on W3 and the 'hello world' code works when I paste it directly into my HTML but I'm having a problem with a script (I've had problems with other scripts as well but I am not sure what I'm doing wrong).
I have this code that I want to test in my HTML, I copied the HTML in and it looks the same then I made a file in my static folder called edit.js and copied the JavaScript into it (exactly as shown). It didn't work no errors on the page but when I click it nothing happens. I tried to paste a W3 'hello world' code in and that worked but this script does not.
I tried to inspect the code in Chrome and that's where I see the above error (under the resources tab). I can open the js file using Chrome which makes me think the js file is accessible and pointing correctly but I'm not sure how to get it working. I'm using Jinja2 as my template engine to render the HTML and in my header I have:

and in my main template (the one that gets rendered on all pages) I have:

edit.js:
(even putting it within the script tag directly on the page I want to use it on doesn't work)
$('#editvalue').click(function(e){$('#storedvalue').hide();$('#altervalue').show();});
$('#savevalue').click(function(e){
var showNew = $('#changevalue').val();
$('#altervalue').hide();
$('#storedvalue').show();
$('#storedvalue span').text(showNew);
});
HTML:
(it's embedded in a larger page)

... my html code..

Hello [edit]

[save]

I have never been able to successfully run a JavaScript that wasn't on W3 yet. I get the same problem with other scripts even though I see people online saying they work fine for them. Do I need to do anything extra to make this work?
My two questions are:
What am I doing wrong?
Because Javascript seems to just not work when there's a problem, is there a way to get errors or information on what's actually wrong?
I read Uncaught ReferenceError: $ is not defined? and have been trying to figure this out for the last hour and can't see my problem.
First you need to place the jQuery script tag first.
Second, you need to do one of the following things:
Put your code within this function:
$(document).ready(function(){/*CODE HERE*/});
Or like this:
$(function(){
/*CODE HERE*/
});
The DOM needs to be ready before you can use it. Placing your code within anonymous functions that are executed on the ready event of the DOM is how you can do this.
Edit:
$(function(){
$('#editvalue').click(function(e){$('#storedvalue').hide();$('#altervalue').show();});
$('#savevalue').click(function(e){
var showNew = $('#changevalue').val();
$('#altervalue').hide();
$('#storedvalue').show();
$('#storedvalue span').text(showNew);
});
});

Script tag for jQuery should come before your custom javascript.
Follow by edit.js

Try removing the language attribute..sometimes work for me. It's obsolete now .. i think
You need to include jquery before you can use it.
I am working on ASP.NET 3.5, c#, visual studio 2010. I have made a master file and a default page that uses this master file. I have placed a couple asp:contentplaceholders in the master and corresponding code in the page that uses this master. I have also inserted JavaScript like this in the content page (and not the master):
<asp:Content ID="Content6" ContentPlaceHolderID="Mainpage" Runat="Server">

</asp:Content>
On running the website I get the following runtime error in visual studio:
Microsoft JScript runtime error: 'this.node' is null or not an object
and it point to some function inside the JavaScript like
this.node.onload=function(){..............//I am not a java guy so do not know much about this
Where am I going wrong? Why does the site compile correctly but throw this runtime error?
I also tried inserting this java code inside the master file in the
, but same error. This is urgent please so if someone experienced can pinpoint where exactly to put the code that would be solve my problem quickly.
Have you included a reference to the jQuery library? A good practice would be to have the jQuery include in the Master.

If it's your intention to have that script run on 'page load', then ensure you have it set correctly:
$(document).ready(function() {
// put all your jQuery goodness in here.
});
More info on jQuery document ready.
I'm not sure exactly what it is you are doing with that snippet of code, but I don't think it is the proper syntax.
You probably should re-write it to look like this:
$(document).ready(
function () {
var options = {
//some java code
};
$(".mycssclass").effect(options);
});
Just passing in the function to the jQuery selector will probably get some wonkiness.
Thank you everyone! there was no problem with either the syntax in the javascript or the location/page where it was first included by me. I just figured out that the mistake was somewhere else. This javascript works on an tag. It zooms the image insdie the tag. I was using the <asp:ImageButton> instead og . It works perfect as soon as I replaced it. Thank you all for your time and the knowledge sharing.
I'm trying to embed some code between tags, pyramid however doesn't like it and gives me
ExpatError: not well-formed (invalid token)
Probably because i have && in my code. I tried using & instead, but then it didn't get interpreted in the browser.
The same thing happens when i try to put it in CDATA block.
When I move the code to a separate js file it works. I'd like to keep it in the same file for now, just to enable quick corrections.
So, how should I do it?
EDIT:
I get the same error even for templates as simple as this one:

test

I think you're supposed to put && (i.e. two times the HTML entity code).
This should work:

Have you tried adding a type attribute to your script tag?:

It looks like xhtml issue, as w3c validator reported the same error.
I was thinking if there's a switch to change the document type parsed by chameleon to html, but then it wouldn't be possible to include tal and metal namespaces.
Hence it is expected behavior
