I've seen answers on here on how to do this, but I just can't get it to work. Maybe another set of eyes will help. I'm trying to get the scrollbar to appear in a div that popups when an image is clicked. Here's the code for that:
('modalcs' is the name of the div that pops up)
And the function:
function update_scroll(theID)
{
document.getElementById(theID).style.display = 'block';
$(".scrollable").mCustomScrollbar("update");
}
In my $(document).ready(function() I have:
$(".scrollable").mCustomScrollbar({
theme:"dark-thick",
scrollButtons:{
enable:true,
advanced:{
updateOnBrowserResize:true,
updateOnContentResize:true
}
}
});
and I understand that on page load since the hidden div isn't seen, the scrollbar is unable to see its content.
TIA for any help!
The problem is that the "update" command does not operate on a collection, so if $(".scrollable") returns more than one element, it will update only the first one. Use $.each
$(".scrollable").each(function(){
$(this).mCustomScrollbar("update");
});
On the other hand, since you are operating on 1 element, you can just change your function:
function update_scroll(theID)
{
$('#' + theID).show().mCustomScrollbar("update");
}

I have the following script which fades in multiple divs called 'noti_box'. If a user closes these divs then another div 'advert' fades in in its place.
<script>
$(document).ready(function(){
var animations = [];
$('.noti_box').each(function(i) {
animations.push(
$(this).hide().delay(i * 1000).fadeIn(1500).promise()
);
});
$.when.apply($, animations).done(function () {
time=setInterval(function(){
if ( $('.noti_box:visible').length === 0 ) {
$(".advert").fadeIn("slow");
} },200);
});
});
</script>
this works fine, basically what happens here is my last function is stuck on a loop, where the 'advert' div fades in when 'noti_box' is not visible on the page.
However, now I want a user to click a div called 'icons' and if they do, then this should re-fade in the 'noti_box' divs and fade out the 'advert' div using this code:
<script>
$('.icons').click(function(){
$('.advert').fadeOut('fast');
$('.noti_box).fadeIn('fast');
});
</script>
The problem I have here is the 'advert' div fades in and out again in the blink of an eye, without fading in my 'noti_box' div. This is because my first javascript function is still on a loop and preventing my second script from executing.
So what I need to do, I think is set a time out interval for my first script when a user clicks my div 'icon' and then clear the time out interval once the script has executed and the 'noti_box' divs are once again showing.
Can someone please show me how I would be able to do this as I am brand new to jquery. Thanks
function notiBox(ele){
this.ele=ele;
this.ele.hide().fadeIn('slow');
console.log("I have been born! "+ele);
}
notiBox.prototype={
constructor:notiBox,
advert:function(){
var ele=this.ele;
this.ele.fadeOut('fast',function(){ele.next('.advert').fadeIn('slow');});
},
fadeBack:function(){
var ele=this.ele;
this.ele.next('.advert').fadeOut('slow',function(){ele.fadeIn('slow');});
},
}
$(document).ready(function(){
var timeIn=1;
$('.noti-box').each(function(){
var self=this;
this.timer=setInterval(function(){self.notiBox=new notiBox($(self));clearInterval(self.timer);},1000*timeIn);
timeIn++;
});
$('.icon').click(function(){
$('.noti-box').notiBox.fadeBack();
});
});
Right the above is a 'OOP' based approach to your problem. The only problem you might have with this is that your advert divs are not next to the box div. Sorry I guess your DOM elements and layout. Also my methods my not be correct because it's been so long since I've written something like that. I'll do some tests. In the mean time, could you put up some HTML? So that I can adjust my code :d
What I am trying to do is have four links that each will display and hide a certain div when clicked. I am using slideToggle and I was able to get it to work with really sloppy and repetitive code. A friend of mine gave me a script he used and I tried it out and finally was able to get something to happen. However, all it does is hide the div and wont redisplay. Also it hides all the divs instead of just the specific one. Here is a jsfiddle I made. Hopefully you guys can understand what I am trying to do and help! Thanks alot.
Here is the script I'm using.
$(document).ready(function () {
$(".click_me").on('click', function () {
var $faq = $(this).next(".hide_div");
$faq.slideToggle();
$(".hide_div").not($faq).slideUp();
});
});

Here's a link to a fiddle. http://jsfiddle.net/uo15brz1/7/
I changed your markup a little, adding id attributes to your divs. The jquery, gets the name attribute from the link that's clicked, adds a # to the front, hides the visible div, then toggles the respective div. I also added e.preventDefault to stop the browser from navigating due to the hash change. As an aside, javascript don't require the $ prefix.
$(document).ready(function () {
$(".click_me").on('click', function (e) {
e.preventDefault();
var name = $(this).attr('name');
var target = $("#" + name);
if(target.is(':visible')){
return false; //ignore the click if div is visible
}
target.insertBefore('.hide_div:eq(0)'); //put this item above other .hide_div elments, makes the animation prettier imo
$('.hide_div').slideUp(); //hide all divs on link click
target.slideDown(); // show the clicked one
});
});

Here's a fiddle:

Basically, you need a way to point to the relevant content <div> based on the link that's clicked. It would be tricky to do that in a robust way with your current markup, so I've edited it. The examples in the jquery documentation are pretty good. Spend some time studying them, they are a great way to start out.
I have a horizontal website that keeps displaying my tables/images (my images are in tables) when you click the 'more' link at the bottom. I am trying to make it so that when my last image/table is visible, the 'more' link disappears. I am very new at coding but I managed to compile this but it's not working.
I read that CSS always recognizes an element as visible as long as it fits within the page, and that Javascript must be used to check if it is actually visible on a page. Any solution is appreciated, thanks.
<script src="./lib/jquery.js" type="text/javascript">
function() {
if($('#finaltable').is(':visible')){
$('#morelink').remove(this);
}
}
</script>
<html>
//There are about 20 tables but the last one is ID'd as 'final table'
<table id="finaltable">
<tr><td>Final Table</td></tr>
</table>
You cannot use jquery :visible, because it's based only on the fact that your element has CSS display different that none (its parents as well) and its width and height greater than 0. references
In your case, I would use the offset property. On the click event on the "More" button to check where is the final table.
<a id="more" href="#">More></a>
<script>
jQuery(document).ready(function () {
$("#more").on("click",function(e)
{
//finaltable display on screen
if($("#finaltable").offset().left<=0)
{
$("#more").hide();
}
});
});
</script>
Refer to window.scrollY in a setTimeout to determine if your are nearing the bottom of the page: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Window.scrollY
You are declaring a function in JavaScript but not calling it. You could write the following code.
/* Declare the function */
var f = function() {
if($('#finaltable').is(':visible')){
$('#morelink').remove();
}
}
/* Call the function */
jQuery(document).ready(function () {
f();
});
Here is a demo of the code.

Multiple Dialog
I was able to solve the issue but now problem is that it removes the div so when I access that Div it give error. It gives error because when I open dialog it works fine after removing on close it gives e.rror
I don't want to removed jQuery('#divPopup') If there is only one div present. If multiple jQuery('#divPopup') are there remove() should be working fine.
jQuery('.register_button_class').live('click',function () {
var iFrameobj = createIframe('',iframeUrl);
jQuery('#divPopup').html(iFrameobj);
createDialogWithClose(url,'#bodyId');
return false;
});
Dummy Div for Dialog Popup, This get removed, when Click on Close Jquery Ui Popup.
So when I say
jQuery('#divPopup').html(iFrameobj);
It gives error.
<div id="divPopup"></div>
I'm assuming that your function:
createDialogWithClose(url, '#bodyId');
removes the div id="divPopup" each from the DOM when you close it.
I would suggest not initially including that div in your markup and change your function to create the div and append it to the DOM when it runs. Then remove like you're already doing.
jQuery('.register_button_class').live('click',function () {
var iFrameobj = createIframe('',iframeUrl);
jQuery("body").append("<div id='divPopup' />").html(iFrameobj);
createDialogWithClose(url,'#bodyId');
return false;
});
It's hard to tell what other issues you may be running into with this bit of code that you posted, however, jQuery("body").append("<div id='divPopup' />").html(iFrameobj); will create the divPopup each time the function runs. So, when you close it and it gets removed it will just get created again the next time that button is clicked.
EDIT: How to check if a Div exists -
if ($("#divPopup").length > 0){
// do something here
}
I solved like this
var length = jQuery('#divPopup').length;
if(length>1)
{
jQuery('#divPopup').dialog('destroy').remove();
}else
{
jQuery('#divPopup').dialog('destroy');
}
I am trying to display a table (or ul) that will contain a navigation bar on my page, but only displays the tabs that will contain jquery called divs present on the html.
Essentially, it's a single html document that contains all divs, jquery hides all divs but the first, and the nav bar will allow to navigate through each.
Now I am trying to make it easy to use for my client, so that the menu items will only exist if the div for it also exists. I've got most of it done, the only thing is actually knowing if a div exists.
I tried using this:
if(document.getElementById("page1")) {
document.write("<b>Good morning</b>");}
else
{
document.write("<b>Bad morning </b>");
}
When I place the above code within the div page1, it returns true. Is there no way to do it from the top of the page and not within the div?
Thanks!
Update:
As suggested by many, I have used the following:
$j(document).ready(function(){
//Hide the sections we don't need right away
$j("#page2").hide();
$j("#page3").hide();
$j("#page4").hide();
if ($j('#page1').length > 0) {
var page = 'Excellent Morning' ;
}
});
Then when I try to use:
document.write(page);
It displays the following instead:
[object HTMLBodyElement]
Why not use jQuery since you are already?
if ($('#page1').length > 0) {
// do stuff...
}
EDIT: As davin pointed out, your code should be evaluated after the DOM has been rendered. You can do this by placing it in a $(document).ready call:
$(document.ready(function() {
if ($('#page1').length > 0) {
// do stuff...
}
});
EDIT 2: Based on the OP's edits, a better solution would be to add a placeholder element and to set its content (like FishBasketGordo suggested). An example of this:
$(document.ready(function() {
//Hide the sections we don't need right away
$("#page2, #page3, #page4").hide();
if ($('#page1').length) {
$('#myPlaceHolder').html('<b>Good Morning</b>');
}
else
{
$('#myPlaceHolder').html('<b>Bad Morning</b>');
}
});
Somewhere else in the document...
<span id="myPlaceHolder"></span>
If you place it at the top of the page, the page1 div doesn't exist when the code runs. If you are using jQuery, place the code in a $(document).ready event. Then, you can put it where you want it within the markup. Here's an example:
$(document).ready(function() {
if (document.getElementById("page1")) {
document.write("<b>Good morning</b>");
} else {
document.write("<b>Bad morning </b>");
}
});
Although, rather than doing a document.write, I would consider having a placeholder span or div, and setting it's innerHTML property (or use jQuery's html method). I would also use CSS for my style instead of <b> tags, but that's another matter entirely.
You can use
if ($(selector).length > 0) {
// element exists
}
or you can check out this post for a more elegant solution
Is there an "exists" function for jQuery?
