I am trying to create mcq question and able to add the question. but the problem appear when i already fill the textbox and when i press the add question button, the textbox value always disappear.
<form name="newdocument">
<div id="questions" data-role="fieldcontain"><input type="text" value="dsa"/></div>
<input type="button" value="Add Question" onclick="AddQuestion();" />
</form>
the javascript code is on http://jsfiddle.net/Xv3Xq/1/
Dont use innerHtml+=, its bad. The stuff you write in an input field will get erased, since its not considered when using innerHtml but rather erased. Use jQuery! Something like:
$('#addQuestion').click(function() {
$('<input />').appendTo($('#questions'));
});

I have these inputs that take the values of a from a in my table when I click on a row. I want to make it so that the user cannot change the input themselves but want to bring values into them when a user clicks a table row. I will be passing these inputs in as a form. I know that when the input is like this:
that it will not be updated. Is there any other way to do it with an input. Is there a different type of tag I can use that can be passed through a form?
Rather than a read-only <input>, I'd go with a combination of a display element and a hidden form element. Something like:
<div id="my-display">This is a value</div>
<input id="my-input" name="my-input" type="hidden" />
And in the code update both:
$('#my-display').text(yourValue);
$('#my-input').val(yourValue);
You can style the display to the user however you like and don't have to worry about whether or not it "de-activates" the form input.
If you really want it to be an inactive input, you can use the same approach:
<input class="my-input" type="text" disabled />
<input class="my-input" type="hidden" name="my-input" />
Which may even save you a line of code here, since both can now use .val():
$('.my-input').val(yourValue);
Try disabled keyword as here
<div id="my-display">This is a value</div>
<input id="my-input" name="my-input" type="text" disabled/>
You can change the value by javascript as below:
document.querySelector('#my-input').value = 'the value you want to enter by javascript';
I've got a small-big problem with ajax. Let's describe the situation:
I've got a form with submit=javascript:function()
function will call AJAX with some values, and on success I want to append some content with 'required' input to existing form.
I was trying many things, most from: How to set HTML5 required attribute in Javascript? , but still cannot reach it.
example code:
<form id="myFormID" action="javascript:mycustomsubmit()">
<input type="text" id="add" style="margin:2px;" required>
<input type="submit" name="add" value="Add" class="btn btn-primary">
<textarea rows="5" id="custom_add"></textarea>
(...) on ajax success clear form values and insert new required input:
$("#add").val('');
$("#add").after('<input name="anotherinput" type="text" required>');
so after this my html code looks like this:
<form id="myFormID" action="javascript:mycustomsubmit()">
<input type="text" id="add" style="margin:2px;" required>
<input name="anotherinput" type="text" required="">
<input type="submit" name="add" value="Add" class="btn btn-primary">
<textarea rows="5" id="custom_add"></textarea>
</form>
And in fact it is (with this difference, that new input has required=""), but this new input is not required at all - I can send form even if this input is empty. I was trying to do it by append required, required="required", required=true, required="true", by append just input and then jQuery .prop or/and .attr, by JS examples from link - but it is still not working.
2nd question: After ajax append content and clear values I've got red border around required input field - is there any simple way to remove it (but to show this border and info if user will try to send form with this input empty) in FF,Chrome,IE ?
First post here...
Thanks in advance for any advices!
edit:
what is interesting: when I've submitted my form few times (so I've got few input fields) and I executed $("input").attr('required',true).prop('required', false); then obviously form haven't got any required inputs. However when I've executed it with prop "true" then only original input is really required, all added by append still can be empty...
This is a question consisting of multiple questions. So I'll try to identify and answer them separately.
How to append a new input field after your input field with ID "add" on submitting the form?
Try this instead (your selector was wrong):
$("#add").val('');
$("#add").after('<input name="anotherinput" type="text" required>');
How do I get rid of the red border?
I suggest that you use jQuery to handle the form submit (not tested):
$('#myFormID').submit(function(e) {
// Checking if all required fields are filled out.
if (!e.target.checkValidity()) {
// TODO: Not all required fields are filled out. Do something e.g. adding your new input field?
// Preventing form submit to continue. I think this should prevent the red border. Not tested though...
e.preventDefault();
}
else {
// Everything is OK. Do whatever is needed.
}
});
I'm not sure if I got your questions, but I hope it helps.
Try this,
$("input").attr('required',true);
or
$("#name_add").attr('required',true);
I currently have text boxes that have the border removed so they don't appear as text boxes and are read only. I also have an edit button that shows the border and allows a user to edit the information and save it to a database.
My question should I be displaying data in a text box? It just makes it easier to edit otherwise I would have to add the text box dynamically when the edit button is clicked.
Another option is a 'span' or 'div' with the html5 attrtibute 'contenteditable' set to true;
<div contenteditable="true"/>
You can toggle true/false on click button event.
You could just use a div tag and load your output there.
<div id="output"></div>
It would remain invisible until used, and it would not be editable, and of course you could mark it up any way you like if you want the output area to stand out later.
You can try like this with jquery-
Html :
<input type="text" id="data" disabled="true" value="sampel data"/>
<input type="button" id="button" value="Edit" />
Jquery:
$("#button").click(function(){
$("#data").attr("disabled", false);
});

I have this code
<input type="hidden" value="[{"value":1,"label":"Emmoia Boently"},{"value":6,"label":"John Smith"}]" name="group[users][]" id="users">
<input type="text" value="Emmoia--Boently, John--Smith, " name="autocompleter_group[users][]" id="autocompleter_userss" class="ui-autocomplete-input" autocomplete="off" role="textbox" aria-autocomplete="list" aria-haspopup="true">
Now my problem is the current javascript is adding the values from textbox to the hidden feilds.
But when i delete the text then it don't deletes from the hidden input fields.
So i want to do in jquery that when i start deleting the text in main textbox then the value gets deleted in the hidden input field as well.
just like we do in SO when we delete the tag characters in ask question page
$("#autocompleter_userss").on("keyup", function() {
$("#users").val($(this).val());
});
Fiddle
UPDATE: Seems like you're looking for a tag editor. See this post for exhaustive links :)
$('input#1').change(function(){
$('input#hidden').val($(this).val());
});
Additionally, you could try some data-binidng libaries like knockout.js among others.
I have a function that calculate price for a product. I'm not JavaScript developer so my knowledge is very limited.
By changing the value in the text field script calculate price for product.
<input type="text" value="" name="options[22]" class="input-text"
onfocus="opConfig.reloadPrice()">
Problem is that the script triggers only if the following is done:
insert value into the textfield
click somewhere outside the textfield
click back into the text field
All I need is a button saying refresh that by clicking it will have functionality of step 2 and step above.
I'm not sure if I explained it properly so if there is any more information required to resolve this issue please let me know.
Here is the link to the site.

The field im trying to amend/add refresh button is Enter Square Metre
You'd add your event to a button, and retrieve a reference to your input by assigning an ID:
<input type="text" value="" name="options[22]" id="price" class="input-text" />
<input type="button" value="Refresh" onclick="reloadPrice();" />
function reloadPrice() {
var price = "0.00"; // set your price here
// get a ref to your element and assign value
var elem = document.getElementById("price");
elem.value = price;
}
I'm not sure I fully understand you, but is this what you need?
<input type="text" value="" name="options[22]" class="input-text">
<input type="button" onclick="opConfig.reloadPrice()" value="Refresh" />
A button with an click-event listener, so that when you click the refresh-button the opConfig.reloadPrice() method gets executed.
Edit based on comment:
I'm not sure what JavaScript library you are using, but you have these two lines in you code that seems to add event-listeners to the input with id qty.
$('qty').observe('focus',function(){
$('qty').setValue($('qty').getValue().replace(/[^0-9]/g,''));
});
$('qty').observe('focus',this.getFromQties.bind(this))
They are listening for the focus event, thus only triggers when your input field gains focus.
If you modify those to listen for the keyup event instead, I believe it will work better. Without being familiar with the framework, I guess the only thing to change would be this:
$('qty').observe('keyup',function(){
$('qty').setValue($('qty').getValue().replace(/[^0-9]/g,''));
});
$('qty').observe('keyup',this.getFromQties.bind(this))
Use onchange or onblur instead of onfocus!
use onchange. This will activate anytime the value changes:
<input type="text" value="" name="options[22]" class="input-text" onchange="opConfig.reloadPrice()">
First: this is JavaScript and not Java - so you have to be a javascript and not a java developer.
to solve your problem you can make a new button with a onclick attribute and execute your function there which you have in your onfocus attribute in the text-field.
or you can take another event - like onchange or onblur for instance..
<input type="text" onchange="..yourfunctionhere...">

All I need is a button saying refresh that by clicking it will have functionality
For that you need a button with onclick listener,
do the below things.
<input type="button" value="Refresh" onclick="opConfig.reloadPrice();" />
<input type="text" value="" name="options[22]" class="input-text"/>
