I have a weird problem when I try to submit a form. My page contains a html table and one column has a link that deletes the line from the DB calling a js function.
The html/php line is the following one:
<input type="hidden" name="deleteid" value=0>
print ", delete";
The javascript function is the following one:
function delete_line(team_id) {
if (confirm('<?php echo $txt_confirm_del_team;?>')){
document.formName.elements.deleteid.value = team_id;
document.formName.submit();
}
}
If I put a breakpoint on the line "document.formName.submit();", the called page can read the parameter "deletedid". If not, the parameters are not passed to the page called by the submit.
Btw, I have another issue if I use getElementById() to retrieve the element or the form in the javascript function: it says the getelementbyid is null (and it's not because I can retreive it using the syntax document.formName.elements.deleteid)
thanks
There may be some other event handlers there, you can open the page in Chrome and right click the anchor, then choose "inspect element" and then check out the event handlers in the "event listeners" tab.
As far as the code you posted; there is nothing wrong with it. The following works just fine for me:
<html>
<head>
<title>test</title>
</head>
<body>
<a onclick="javascript:delete_line(22);">delete</a>
<script>
function delete_line(nr){
console.log(nr);
}
</script>
</body>
</html>

I am developing a Java Web Application with JSF 2.2. I am combining another frontend tecnologies, however my specific problem is easily to explain with the next code:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<title>Prueba</title>
</head>
<body>
<input id="test" value="Initial value" onchange="alert('I changed my value')"/>
<button onclick="updateTest()">Cambiar el valor</button>
<script type="text/javascript">
function updateTest() {
document.getElementById("test").value = "|" + document.getElementById("test").value;
}
</script>
</body>
</html>
When the user modify the input value, the browser show the alert message, but when the user clicked on the button the browser not detect input value was to changed and I need when the user clicked on the button, the input changes its value and the browser launch the alert message.
Why I need this crazy process? Because I would like to use another JavaScript frameworks that modify the front-end of different way that JSF. I have a modal to change a input value with the javascript framework code pure and I would like when this value to changed, also JSF detects the new input value.
Thank you very much!
You can assign an input event listener, see the following code snippet for a basic example that should get you there.
Edit: This has been updated to show you can trigger the oninput event listener even in the even that you programmatically change the value.
document.querySelector('#test').oninput = function() {
console.log(this.value);
}
// Modal code
{
document.querySelector('#test').value = 'new value';
document.querySelector('#test').oninput();
}
<input id="test" type="text" />
There is a check box in a webpage upon clicking it, it will select all the check box beneath it . It works by calling a java script function (on click) .
When i check that particular check box using VB script by .getElementById("").checked=True, Only that particular check box is selected and all other check box beneath it is not checked.
The reason is because when i using getElementID, only particular checkbox is selected and Java script function is not executed.
May i know how to call that function/ any other ways to select all the checkboxes?
Note: I don't have access to change the html contents of that webpage.
There shouldn't be anything stopping you from calling the JavaScript function from VBScript.
<script language="vbscript" type="text/vbscript">
Function TestVBS()
MsgBox "In TestVBS"
testJS ' Now call a JavaScript function from VBScript
End Function
</script>
<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
function testJS() {
alert("In testJS");
}
</script>
<input type="button" language="vbscript" onclick="TestVBS" value="Click Me" />
In Chrome and IE, the following code, when the Anchor tag is clicked, pops up the form (modal box ID of "modalContent", form ID of "DL") and adds an "OnSubmit" to the Form. When the Form is submitted, it will navigate to the requested PDF via Javascript, and run some ASP to send an email with their details attached.
<script language="javascript">
function downloadAnyway(link) {
$('#DL')[0].setAttribute('ONSUBMIT', 'return checkform("' + link + '")');
$('#modalContent').modal();
}
function checkform(navName) {
window.open(navName);
$.modal.close();
}
</script>
<!-- link to download a product guide -->
Product Guide
<div id="modalContent">
<form id="DL" action="contactusprocessNew2.asp" method="post" name="contact" >
<div align="center">
<input type="image" src="templates/default/images/submit_download.gif" class="imagebutton" value="submit" />
</div>
</form>
</div>
This works fine in IE and Chrome, in Firefox, the Javascript onsubmit works, but the action of the asp never fires. If I remove the javascript, the asp fires as expected.
So, the final form in FireFox, after the "onsubmit" has been dynamically added looks as below:
<form id="DL" action="contactusprocessNew2.asp" method="post" name="contact" onsubmit="return checkform("downloads/ProductGuide.pdf")">
The onsubmit fires, opening the product guide in another tab, however, the ASP Action never fires. There is more that goes on here, like we write a cookie making sure we don't ask the client for a download every time they use our downloads, however, I've trimmed off anything I think is outside the problem domain.
In the asp, I have gotten rid of all code and put a simple response.redirect to see if it fires and make sure nothing is going on in the ASP.
Any idea how I can get this to function in FireFox?
UPDATE:
I have replaced the onsubmit event wireup with a 'proper' jquery submit wireup replacing the first line below, with the second. The asp on the form still does not function.
//$('#DL')[0].setAttribute('ONSUBMIT', 'return checkform(\'' + link + '\')');
$('#DL').submit(function checkform() {
$.modal.close();
window.open(link);
return true;
});
UPDATE 2
Right, it is because to modal popup CLOSES before the ASP fires. If we comment out the line $.modal.close(); then the asp fires as expected. In Chrome and IE the javascript and the ASP must fire at the same time, in Firefox, the javascript fires which "hides" the div with the "modelContent" and the asp can no longer fire. So this is the real problem... now how to sort it out...
<form id="search" action="/search" method="get" autocomplete="off">
<div>
<input type="button" name="test_button" value="test" />
</div>
</form>
<script>
document.getElementById("test_button").value = "changed_test"
</script>
Just as the HTML code above shows, I have defined a button with name test_button and value test and changing its value with the code in the script tag.
Now I am debugging a large webpage which is using a mechanism like this using Firebug and Firefox in Linux.
I want to know how I can find the script that changes the value attribute of the <input ... />, but the web page is too large, various <script> and anonymous functions which are auto-executed made it nearly impossible to find the specific script manually.
Since I am in Linux, I cannot use any Microsoft tools to search the whole web page. I only have Firebug and Chrome. Can Firebug realize that? Does anyone have a good idea of how to find the specific <script> that changed the value?
Add some code like this to the document, right after the form with the button:
<script>
var node = document.getElementById("test_button");
Object.defineProperty(node, 'value', {
set: function() { throw new Error('button value modified'); }
});
</script>
This will throw an error when anything tries to modify the button's value.
Expand the error and click the last line number shown. This will take you straight to the line that set the value of the button.
Here's a demo: http://jsfiddle.net/XSJZN/
Tested in Chrome 17.
I have an .aspx page. I populate a public variable in the code behind (.cs) page and then access that variable in JS on client side. I have the script declared after the FORM tag as below :-
<body>
<form>
...
</form>
<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
debugger;
var data = "<%=cSharpData%>";
</script>
</body>
After postback this script does not get executed first time, but when I click on any other server button on the page, then it gets executed.
Any idea why?
Is your postback done with ajax?
If so then only part of the page is refreshed and the script is not executed again.
You can wrap it in a function and add that function to the postback callback handler.
This is how I did it on one site:
Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManager.getInstance().add_endRequest(function () { edit.update(); });
Putting some Javascript after a <FORM> element does not mean it will get processed after the form has been submitted. It gets processed as the HTML is rendered, which is what you are seeing.
If you want to run some Javascript after POSTing a form then you need to use a onClick handler, something like this:
<FORM NAME="myform" ACTION="" METHOD="GET">
<INPUT TYPE="text" NAME="inputbox" VALUE=""><P>
<INPUT TYPE="button" NAME="button" Value="Click" onClick="dosomejavascriptstuff()">
</FORM>
have you tried to execute it with jquery $(document).ready()?
something like:
<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function(){....});
</scrip>
updated
without jquery
/* registr event on document load */
if ( document.addEventListener ) {
document.addEventListener( "DOMContentLoaded", log4link, false );
} else if ( document ) {
document.attachEvent("onreadystatechange",function(){
if ( document.readyState === "complete" ) {log4link();}
});}
Thanks for your replies. I got closer to the issue but I do not know the solution :(
The C# variable contains a path info as "D:\" and when I set this on a JS variable I get the error as "Unterminated String Constant".
How do I overcome this.
Actually this was the problem, why the script was not getting executed. As soon as I removed the "\", it worked !
