I'd like to know if it's possible to use the .before() function in jQuery to load an external html file in the same domain.
What I'd like is an HTML form with dynamically placed form elements based on users' entries (being able to add as many phone number fields as they want for instance). I tried many options like .load() or .html() but I can't seem to find any working solution. Maybe I'm not doing this right...
<script>
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#add_society_number").click(function(){
$(this).closest('table').before(forms/society_phone_number.html);
});
});
</script>
What should I use instead of "forms/society_phone_number.html"?
I'll have many pages with shared forms, that's why I want them in external files.
Another reason why I'd like to load external HTML files is that when using .before() function, I have to use "\" for each line breaks in my code...
Thank you :)
You'll need to use $.ajax or one of it's helper methods to get the content.
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#add_society_number").click(function(){
var self = this;
$.get("forms/society_phone_number.html",function(response){
$(self).closest('table').before(response);
});
});
});
you can also use .load('/url/to/script')
<script>
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#add_society_number").click(function(){
$(this).closest('table tbody').load('forms/society_phone_number.html');
});
});
</script>

So I've got this little piece of HTML that I have zero access to, and I need to change the URL of where it's linking, to somewhere else.
Now I've looked around, and I've tried different approaches and non seem to work so I must be doing something wrong.
the Html code:
<div class="manageable-content" data-container="edit_register_ind_container">
<a class="entry-text-link secondary-step step-button" id="register_ind_container" href="oldurl">Register</a>
</div>
First I wanted to try something that seemed easier, which was to change the displayed text "Register" to "Start a Fundraiser"
This is what I have got for that part:
// url manipulation
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#register_ind_container").click(function(){
$("#manageable-content a").text('Start a Fundraiser');
});
$("#register_ind_container").attr("href", "http://google.ca");
});
No luck so far for any of it.
a little background information:
I am using a platform called Luminate/Blackbaud, its a CMS with a weird set up. header tags and stuff like that go in a different place than the html body and the css is somewhere else as well (but I'm just using ftp to reference it in the header).
How I'm referencing the javascript code.
<script type="text/javascript" src="../mResonsive/js/urlmanipulation.js"></script>
My css works so I'm certain this should to, but I just don't know why it isn't.
All suggestions welcome (except for asking for the html access because I have, 3 weeks ago lol)
Thank you for your time!
I saw your both code :
$("#register_ind_container").attr("href", "http://google.ca");
This line will execute on page load so href should be changed on load
$("#register_ind_container").click(function(){
But when you performing this click on Id
it wont work because at that instance this id associated with an hyperlink
so hyperlink having the default subset rules
for Overriding this you can try
$("#register_ind_container").click(function(e){
// custom handling here
e.preventDefault();
$(this).text('Start a Fundraiser');
});
But this is also not a Good Practice. Hope this helps !
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#register_ind_container").click(function(){
$(this).text('Start a Fundraiser');
$(this).attr("href", "http://google.ca");
});
});
You are changing the URL outside the click event.. Wrap it inside the click event.. Also make use of $(this)
// url manipulation
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#register_ind_container").click(function(){
$(this).text('Start a Fundraiser').attr("href", "http://google.ca");
});
});
I have a big doubt. In a MVC project, I render a HTML template (loaded from .html file) into a View with MvcHtmlString.Create();
This works fine but have a problem. This HTML template need to do javascript functionality, the problem? That this don't work, because the HTML is rendered after the javascript and the js functionality not work.
Something like this:
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#SomeID").click(funciton(){
//This don't work because the #SomeID not exists yet
});
});
</script>
<br />
#MvcHtmlString.Create(#Model.HTMLTemplateContent);
Someone can help me about this or tell me something at respect?
Thanks
Use jquery on method.
$(document).ready(function(){
$(document).on("click","#SomeID",function(){
alert("Working");
});
});
on method will work for current and future (Any thing injected to DOM later (Ex : through javascript code, ajax) elements.
Thanks! I not have idea about this.
Is possible to access at elements by the same "method"? How to do to get this? i.e
I'm using jSignature to implement sign en the document.
whit this:
$("#someDivID").jSignature();
I'm using now to access at div element with this:
var signCanvasOn = document.getElementById("someID");
signCanvasOn.jSignature();
signCanvasOn.jSignature("reset");
But this don't work for me, only work if I use:
$("#someID").jSignature();
$("#someID").jSignature("reset");
What is the real problem?
Have you tried adding the jquery at document level?
That's how i usually ensure that jquery continues to work with any stuff i load on the page dynamically.
Something like this:
$(document).on("click","#SomeID",function()
{
//This don't work because the #SomeID not exists yet
});
I'm trying to write jQuery code to count the number of <img> elements contained on a site. The site is comprised of 4 separate HTML pages, all in the same folder on the server. Only one of these pages, "pics.html", loads the .js file that needs to perform this function (pics.html is the only page that needs to know how many images are on the site).
It's easy to get the <img> elements from pics.html, since pics.html is the page that loads the script:
var numImgs = $('img').length;
...but I'm confused as to how I would perform this same function in reference to a different page. Is it possible to specify the HTML page that the selector refers to?
I tried this, as a wild guess:
var numImgs = $('test.html:img').length;
Unsurprisingly, it didn't work. I googled for the answer, but couldn't find a solution - or if I did find one, I suppose I didn't understand it well enough to realize that it was the answer.
Thanks for any help you can offer!
To select an object from an external file, you'll need to use $.load().
Reference: http://api.jquery.com/load/
Try this
$(document).ready(function(){
$('#myDiv').load('/remotePage.html #TargetDiv', function () {
var elements = $('.class', this).length;
alert(elements);
});
});
I have a URL that resides on another domain, like this:
http://ads.adserver.com/ad?site=1233&zone=45435
When you type this URL in the browser, the result is HTML like this:
<img src="htt://ads.adserver.com/i/image.gif" border="0"/><br/>Test
The above renders as an image wrapped in a link with a second link below it.
I tried to capture this URL in a script tag and append it to the DOM, but it does not render the HTML above.
var ad_script = document.createElement('script');
ad_script.type = 'text/javascript';
ad_script.src = 'http://ads.adserver.com/ad?site=1233&zone=45435';
li.appendChild(ad_script);
Are there any other ways of invoking this URL and putting the result on the page? I can't use $.getScript() since I'm not invoking this in the global context. I need this HTML to appear exactly where I want it to appear.
EDIT: The only reason I am trying this route is that the third-party does not provide a JSON-P interface.
EDIT2: Unfortunately, I am not on an application server.
EDIT3: This is for iPhone.
You are limited to how you load this due to cross-domain issues .. an easy way would be to load the image in it's own iframe
<iframe src='http://ads.adserver.com/ad?site=1233&zone=45435' height='200px' width='200px' />
You'll want to use ajax for this. The easiest way might be jQuery's .load() method.
Assuming the element you want the content to go into has an id of holder, you would do
('#holder').load('http://ads.adserver.com/ad?site=1233&zone=45435')
It will put the contents of the webpage into your selected element. http://api.jquery.com/load/
edit: Sorry, forgot cross-site ajax limitations. You could instead set up a php page like:
if(isset($_GET['url'])){
echo file_get_contents($_GET['url'])
}
and then do
('#holder').load('http://yoursite.com/yourpage.php?url=http://ads.adserver.com/ad?site=1233&zone=45435')
Take the jsonp approach. use an actual script tag and put an executing javascript function as the response that adds that html markup to the dom. It will add it to the dom of the page where the script tag resides.
There are a number of jQuery ajax calls that can accomplish this, for example:
jQuery.get('http://ads.adserver.com/ad?site=1233&zone=45435', function(data){jQuery(updateElementQuery).html(data);});
Try to use jquery method 'load'
`$('#result').load(url, function(response) {
$('#my-li').append($('#result').html());
$('#result').html(null);
});`
... where #result is some hidden div
I compile all my javascript for different pages into one file, so I have to identify page for my all.js. I can put a hidden element in my pages and let javascript detect this element, but I don't like this solution, are there any other ways to do this?
You could go by the url using location.href (or another field from the location object).
However, a better approach is using a data- attribute on the body tag, e.g. <body data-page="whatever"> and then using $('body').data('page') to retrieve the value.
If you script is based on pages, then compiling them into one script is a bad idea, load the file separately, it will be lighter and definately increase some performace.
I am not sure, why do you need this, but in general it is not good practice to change dynamicaly change content of javascript file, since you are disabling javascript cacheing, what can be performance issue later.
Any way, you can solve it from other side, what about using all.js just to detect the page, where are you and then you can use this information, to load right javascript file dynamicaly, like in the following example
document.write('<script src="'+location.pathname+'.js"></script>');
Which will load same file as you are on, just with .js extension. So for example on index.html page it will load index.html.js file
I almost always use MVC frameworks and tend to put my action and controller as classes on the body element
<body class="main_controller index">
Which lets you do things like this:
$(document).ready(function(){
//Only for lessons#search
if (!$(body).hasClass('lessons search')) {
return;
}
function close_style_filter_box() {
$('#style_filter_box').slideUp();
}
});
$(document).ready(function(){
//Only for main_controller#index
if (!$(body).hasClass('main_controller index')) {
return;
}
function do_something_else_on_this_age() {
....
}
});
Another way is using javascript variable:
var PAGE = 'page1';
