I am trying to refresh the page after a jQuery AJAX call. It appears that the page is refreshing (only sometimes) before all the data has been transmitted. Can anyone see why by this snippet below. I have the refresh code in the success function so I am confused.
I tried adding async = false and that didn't seem to work either.
function sendRating(rating, reload_on_return) {
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
dataType: 'json',
url: window.url_root + cid + "/",
data: {
"rating": rating.r2 / 100.0
},
success: function(data) {
if (data.hasOwnProperty('success')) {
console.log("data was sent!");
if (reload_on_return) {
location.reload();
}
}
},
error: function() {
console.log("Data didn't get sent!!");
}
})
You could possibly do a setTimeout, to make it wait for a split second before the refresh can execute.
function sendRating(rating, reload_on_return) {
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
dataType: 'json',
url: window.url_root + cid + "/",
async: false,
data: {
"rating": rating.r2 / 100.0
},
success: function(data) {
if (data.hasOwnProperty('success')) {
console.log("data was sent!");
if (reload_on_return) {
setTimeout(
function()
{
location.reload();
}, 0001);
}
}
},
error: function() {
console.log("Data didn't get sent!!");
}
})

I have created a save(id) function that will submit ajax post request. When calling a save(id). How to get value/data from save(id) before going to next step. How to solve this?
For example:
function save(id) {
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "/post/",
dataType: "json",
contentType: 'application/json',
data: JSON.stringify({
id: id,
}),
success: function (data) {
return data;
},
error: function (error) {
return data;
}
});
}
Usage:
$('.btn-create').click(function () {
var id = 123;
data = saveArea(id); //get data from ajax request or error data?
if (data) {
window.location = "/post/" + data.something
}
}
You have two options, either run the AJAX call synchronously (not recommended). Or asynchronously using callbacks
Synchronous
As #Drew_Kennedy mentions, this will freeze the page until it's finished, degrading the user experience.
function save(id) {
return $.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "/post/",
dataType: "json",
contentType: 'application/json',
async: false,
data: JSON.stringify({
id: id,
})
}).responseText;
}
$('.btn-create').click(function () {
var id = 123;
// now this will work
data = save(id);
if (data) {
window.location = "/post/" + data.something
}
}
Asynchronous (recommended)
This will run in the background, and allow for normal user interaction on the page.
function save(id, cb, err) {
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "/post/",
dataType: "json",
contentType: 'application/json',
data: JSON.stringify({
id: id,
}),
success: function (data) {
cb(data);
},
error: err // you can do the same for success/cb: "success: cb"
});
}
$('.btn-create').click(function () {
var id = 123;
save(id,
// what to do on success
function(data) {
// data is available here in the callback
if (data) {
window.location = "/post/" + data.something
}
},
// what to do on failure
function(data) {
alert(data);
}
});
}
Just make things a bit simpler.
For starters just add window.location = "/post/" + data.something to the success callback.
Like this:
function save(id) {
return $.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "/post/",
dataType: "json",
contentType: 'application/json',
data: JSON.stringify({
id: id,
}),
success:function(data){
window.location = "/post/" + data.something
}
}).responseText;
}
Or by adding all your Ajax code within the click event.
$('.btn-create').click(function () {
var id = "123";
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "/post/",
dataType: "json",
contentType: 'application/json',
data: JSON.stringify({
id: id,
}),
success: function (data) {
window.location = "/post/" + data.something
},
error: function (error) {
console.log(error)
}
});
}
I use Jquery-ajax calls to get information from a api and store it. The problem I encounter is the following:
When first call is made call everything seems normal. When the call is made 2nd time (after 1 min )again one only call takes place but with 3rd call 2 times sendData function is getting called ,4th time 4 times sendData function is called.
Please tell me where i am going wrong.Thanks in advance.
$(document).ready(function() {
$(function ajaxCall() {
$.ajax({
url: "https://blockchain.info/ticker",
method: "GET",
dataType: "json",
crossDomain: true,
processData: true,
async: false,
success: function(resp) {
if (resp != null) {
alert(resp);
var myJSON = JSON.stringify(resp);
alert(myJSON);
sendData(myJSON);
setInterval(ajaxCall, 1000 * 60);
} else {
alert("something went wrong");
}
}
});
});
I would suggest you to move calling method to Ajax's complete method:
$(document).ready(function () {
$(function ajaxCall() {
$.ajax({
url: "https://blockchain.info/ticker",
method: "GET",
dataType: "json",
crossDomain: true,
processData: true,
success: function (resp) {
if (resp !== null) {
alert(resp);
var myJSON = JSON.stringify(resp);
alert(myJSON);
sendData(myJSON);
} else {
alert("something went wrong");
}
},
complete: function () {
setInterval(ajaxCall, 1000 * 60);
}
});
})
});
I have a Post call. After the result I want to do another get CALL to check the status. But only if the status is FINISHED.
jQuery.ajax({
type: "POST",
contentType: "application/json",
url: "/doPostURL....,
headers: {
"x-csrf-token": sCsrftoken
},
success: function() {
.. now I want to do the polling on the status
jQuery.ajax({
type: "GET",
dataType: "json",
url: "/getStatusUrl ,
success: function(data, textStatus, response) {
// to continue only if status if Finished
},
error: function() {
}
});
}
});
$.ajax returns a deferred object.
You can do something like below. More info here
var doSomething = $.ajax({
url: '/path/to/file',
type: 'default GET (Other values: POST)',
dataType: 'default: Intelligent Guess (Other values: xml, json, script, or html)',
data: {param1: 'value1'},
})
function doneCallback(){
// Handle exit condition here.
doSomething();
}
function failCallback(){
// Handle failure scenario here.
}
doSomething.then(doneCallback, failCallback)
Just set your code in a function:
jQuery.ajax({
type: "POST",
contentType: "application/json",
url: "/doPostURL....,
headers: {
"x-csrf-token": sCsrftoken
},
success: function() {
doPoll();
}
});
var doPoll = function() {
jQuery.ajax({
type: "GET",
contentType: "application/json",
url: "/getStatusUrl ,
success: function(data, textStatus, response) {
//do stuff
doPoll();
},
error: function() {
//handle error
}
});
}
You can try to export the ajax call to a function and use recursion to pool.
Note: You should have a max counter so that you do not flood server with infinite calls.
var max_count = 20;
var counter = 0;
function getStatus() {
jQuery.ajax({
type: "GET ",
contentType: "application / json ",
url: " / getStatusUrl,
success: function(data, textStatus, response) {
// to continue only if status if Finished
if (textStatus != "status" && ++counter < max_count) {
getStatus();
}
},
error: function() {}
});
}
I have a function which i want to execute when ajax makes a successful request but it doesn't execute here my jquery part
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "https://www.example.com/create_chat.php",
data: dataString,
beforeSend: function()
{
$("#loading_indicator").show();
},
success: function(response)
{
$(".example").html(response);
}
});
here is the response from php file
<script>start_chat(); alert("testing");</script>
i tried adding this also
$(".example").find("script").each(function(i) {
eval($(this).text());
});
but nothing works
Your response from create_chat could indicate which function will be used. For example
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "https://www.example.com/create_chat.php",
data: {
dataString: dataString
},
beforeSend: function()
{
$("#loading_indicator").show();
},
success: function(response) // response could be 1,2,3,4.. etc
{
if(response==1) {
start_chat();
}
if(response==2) {
stop_chat();
}
if(response==3) {
change_chat_room();
}
...
$(".example").html(response);
}
});
While there are work arounds, you should never be executing the response of an Ajax call directly.
"Scripts in the resulting document tree will not be executed,
resources referenced will not be loaded and no associated XSLT will be
applied."
http://www.w3.org/TR/XMLHttpRequest/#document-response-entity-body
Best practice is to respond with data, typically in the form of JSON, JSONP or HTML.
Try This,
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
data: {
'dataString': dataString
},
url: 'https://www.example.com/create_chat.php',
success: function(data) {
start_chat();
alert('Success');
},
error: function(data) {
alert('failed');
}
});
I'm calling php file through ajax call and if it returns nothing i want to redirect user to another page (It's for error reports, if it doesn't return anything it means that user logged in). Tried to add error section but it doesn't work. Any suggestions will help. Thanks! Btw, I have small jQuery function at the top of the ajax function, why it breaks my whole ajax call?
ajax.js
function loginAjax() {
//$("#email_errors").empty(); //This function doesnt work and kills whole ajax call. Here is loginAjax function call line - <button type = "submit" id = "push_button" onclick = "loginAjax(); return false">PushMe</button>
$.ajax({
url: "Classes/call_methods_login.php",
type: "POST",
dataType: "json",
data: {
login_email: $("#login_email").val(),
login_password: $("#login_password").val(),
},
success: function(data) {
$("#login_error").html(data.login_message);
}
});
}
$.ajax({
url: "Classes/call_methods_login.php",
type: "POST",
dataType: "json",
data: {
login_email: $("#login_email").val(),
login_password: $("#login_password").val(),
},
success: function(data) {
$("#login_error").html(data.login_message);
},
error: function(){
window.location.replace("http://stackoverflow.com");
}
});
}
To redirect using javascript all you need to do is override the location.href attribute.
function loginAjax() {
$.ajax({
url: "Classes/call_methods_login.php",
type: "POST",
dataType: "json",
data: {
login_email: $("#login_email").val(),
login_password: $("#login_password").val(),
},
// the success method is deprecated in favor of done.
done: function(data) {
$("#login_error").html(data.login_message);
},
fail: function(data) {
location.href="path/to/error/page";
}
});
}
