JS: Slide open multiple divs - javascript

So I found a script to slide open multiple divs but I can't seem to get it to work. I thought it was something wrong with my main page, but I created a separate page and still can't seem to get it to work.
No messages in debugger, and no errors; but the DIV doesn't appear.
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-2.0.3.min.js"></script>
<script type='text/javascript'>
(function ($) {
$.fn.showHide = function (options) {
//default vars for the plugin
var defaults = {
speed: 1000,
easing: '',
changeText: 0,
showText: 'Show',
hideText: 'Hide'
};
var options = $.extend(defaults, options);
$(this).click(function () {
// optionally add the class .toggleDiv to each div you want to automatically close
$('.toggleDiv').slideUp(options.speed, options.easing);
// this var stores which button you've clicked
var toggleClick = $(this);
// this reads the rel attribute of the button to determine which div id to toggle
var toggleDiv = $(this).attr('rel');
// here we toggle show/hide the correct div at the right speed and using which easing effect
$(toggleDiv).slideToggle(options.speed, options.easing, function() {
// this only fires once the animation is completed
if(options.changeText==1){
$(toggleDiv).is(":visible") ? toggleClick.text(options.hideText) : toggleClick.text(options.showText);
}
});
return false;
});
};
})(jQuery);
</script>
<a class="show_hide" href="#" rel="#slidingDiv">View</a></pre>
<div id="slidingDiv" class="toggleDiv" style="display: none;">Fill this space with really interesting content.</div>

It is working, for me. You forgot to call function showHide(), actually, and you can do it on this way:
$(document).ready(function() {
$('.show_hide').showHide();
});

I have added one div and one button more. I guess this is expected behavior?

On click add/remove overflow hidden

I'm trying to add/remove .css('overflow-y','hidden') onclick, Which I did. The problem appears when I try to remove that css, also onclick. But this time, user needs to click on another element.
Idea is to have modal (twitter bootstrap 2.3) window where there is some data and when user click on modal button (triggers) the css applies to html element in order to prevent scrolling of the website. And now when I click anywhere on modal (modal shuts down) but there is still overflow-y styling and because of it I can't scroll my page.
So this is what I've made, but I have been stuck here and don't know where I am making mistake. Could anyone help me with this one, and if is possible give me some advice so I could take care in future.
Thanks!
<script type="text/javascript">
$('#myModal').modal('hide') // initializes and invokes show immediately</p>
$('.note').delay(10000).fadeOut('slow');
$(document).ready(function() {
var $html = $('html');
var $button = $('.container > .btn-primary');
var $modal = $('.modal-backdrop');
$button.on('click', function(e) {
$html.css('overflow-y', 'hidden');
if ($html.attr('style')) {
alert('WORKS!');
}
else {
$modal.onclick( function() {
$html.css('overflow-y','scroll');
});
};
});
});
</script>
Put your css in a class and use jquery's .toggleClass() to show/hide the overflow.
Here's a simplified example: http://jsbin.com/towiyaqa/1/
You can use like this:
$button.on('click', function(e) {
$html.css('overflow-y','hidden' ? 'scroll' : 'hidden');
e.preventDefault();
})
Here is solution for problem:
$(document).ready(function() {
var $html = $('html');
var $button = $('.container > .btn-primary');
var $modal = $('.modal-backdrop');
$button.on('click', function(e) {
$('.note').delay(10000).fadeOut('slow');
$html.css('overflow-y', 'hidden');
if ($html.attr('style')) {
console.log("overflow-y: hidden added");
}
});
$('#myModal').on('hidden.bs.modal', function () {
// do something…
console.log("fires myModal");
$html.css('overflow-y','scroll');
});
});
</script>

ShowHide plugin: Fade in instead of toggle?

I'm using the ShowHide Plugin and I'm trying to get it to fade in instead of toggle/slide into view. Here is what I have:
showHide.js
(function ($) {
$.fn.showHide = function (options) {
//default vars for the plugin
var defaults = {
speed: 1000,
easing: '',
changeText: 0,
showText: 'Show',
hideText: 'Hide'
};
var options = $.extend(defaults, options);
$(this).click(function () {
// optionally add the class .toggleDiv to each div you want to automatically close
$('.toggleDiv').slideUp(options.speed, options.easing);
// this var stores which button you've clicked
var toggleClick = $(this);
// this reads the rel attribute of the button to determine which div id to toggle
var toggleDiv = $(this).attr('rel');
// here we toggle show/hide the correct div at the right speed and using which easing effect
$(toggleDiv).slideToggle(options.speed, options.easing, function() {
// this only fires once the animation is completed
if(options.changeText==1){
$(toggleDiv).is(":visible") ? toggleClick.text(options.hideText) : toggleClick.text(options.showText);
}
});
return false;
});
};
})(jQuery);
$(document).ready(function(){
$('.show_hide').showHide({
speed: 1000, // speed you want the toggle to happen
easing: '', // the animation effect you want. Remove this line if you dont want an effect and if you haven't included jQuery UI
changeText: 1, // if you dont want the button text to change, set this to 0
showText: 'View',// the button text to show when a div is closed
hideText: 'Close' // the button text to show when a div is open
});
});
HTML
<a class="show_hide" href="#" rel="#slidingDiv">View</a></pre>
<div id="slidingDiv" class="toggleDiv" style="display: none;">Fill this space with really interesting content.</div>
<pre>
<a class="show_hide" href="#" rel="#slidingDiv_2">View</a></pre>
<div id="slidingDiv_2" class="toggleDiv" style="display: none;">Fill this space with really interesting content.</div>
<pre>
There is a bug in the line $('.toggleDiv').slideUp(options.speed, options.easing);, here you should not slideup the target div - use $('.toggleDiv').not(toggleDiv).slideUp(options.speed, options.easing);
Try
(function ($) {
$.fn.showHide = function (options) {
//default vars for the plugin
var defaults = {
speed: 1000,
easing: '',
changeText: 0,
showText: 'Show',
hideText: 'Hide'
};
var options = $.extend(defaults, options);
$(this).click(function () {
// this var stores which button you've clicked
var toggleClick = $(this);
// this reads the rel attribute of the button to determine which div id to toggle
var toggleDiv = $(this).attr('rel');
// optionally add the class .toggleDiv to each div you want to automatically close
$('.toggleDiv').not(toggleDiv).slideUp(options.speed, options.easing);
// here we toggle show/hide the correct div at the right speed and using which easing effect
$(toggleDiv).slideToggle(options.speed, options.easing, function () {
// this only fires once the animation is completed
if (options.changeText) {
$(toggleDiv).is(":visible") ? toggleClick.text(options.hideText) : toggleClick.text(options.showText);
}
});
return false;
});
};
})(jQuery);

Jquery modal box to open a link and be degradable

I had a couple of questions in regards to a modal box plugin which I have found online. The code for my link is below:
<li><span id="label">Country: </span><span id="strong">United Kingdom</span>
This is what I want to use to trigger the opening of the modal box but I can't work out how I point the link to the modal box, importantly so that if javascript is still disabled, it will still link to another page. I think e prevent default is what I need but I am not sure.
// Modal Box
// Version 0.1
(function ($) {
$.fn.extend({
leanModal: function (options) {
var defaults = {
top: 100,
overlay: 0.5,
closeButton: null
}
var overlay = $("<div id='lean_overlay'></div>");
$("body").append(overlay);
options = $.extend(defaults, options);
return this.each(function () {
var o = options;
$(this).click(function (e) {
var modal_id = $(this).attr("href");
$("#lean_overlay").click(function () {
close_modal(modal_id);
});
$(o.closeButton).click(function () {
close_modal(modal_id);
});
var modal_height = $(modal_id).outerHeight();
var modal_width = $(modal_id).outerWidth();
$('#lean_overlay').css({
'display': 'block',
opacity: 0
});
$('#lean_overlay').fadeTo(200, o.overlay);
$(modal_id).css({
'display': 'block',
'position': 'fixed',
'opacity': 0,
'z-index': 11000,
'left': 50 + '%',
'margin-left': -(modal_width / 2) + "px",
'top': o.top + "px"
});
$(modal_id).fadeTo(200, 1);
e.preventDefault();
});
});
function close_modal(modal_id) {
$("#lean_overlay").fadeOut(200);
$(modal_id).css({
'display': 'none'
});
}
}
});
})(jQuery);
I will try to explain to you how does it work.
You need two parts. Element, that will trigger modal box and element that is modal box.
This two parts are connected with href, as you understood well. Now the tricky part is, that first character in href has to be "#". Also modalbox id has to be same as href, except "#" character. Here is the code:
<a href="#my-first-modal-box" id="country_link">
<span id="label">Country: </span><span id="strong">United Kingdom</span>
</a>
<div id="my-first-modal-box"> This is what appears in modal box </div>
Now javascript/jQuery code. You will simple call function on a href:
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#country_link").leanModal();
});
Now after click on link, modal box will appear. Because link start with #, it doesnt call new page or page reload ;) (yes it is tricky part). Also I suggest to you to put this modal box in your html code directly under the link. So if javascript is turned off, then modal box is just simple div under the link and it is always visible. So your javascript will look like this:
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#my-first-modal-box").hide(); // this will hide modal box with javascript.
// It appears only if you click on link and it
// is visible if javascript is turned off
// you can add some options, like close buttons
var myCloseButton = $("<div class=\"close-button\"></div>");
// you append close button only if it is with javascript
myCloseButton.appendTo("#my-first-modal-box");
$("#country_link").leanModal({ closeButton : myCloseButton });
});

jQuery toggle on dropdown

The problem:
In the example provided below, I have a sidenav with options, you click to reveal a toggled div. If you click the third item in the menu "Dolar", you will see you get a dropdown with three options appear below the link.
This is great, but I want the dropdown to close when I click on the other links. I'm not sure how to achieve this.
jsFiddle:
http://jsfiddle.net/visualdecree/4A23Z/39/
jQuery:
Note: I know it might be messy, I'm still learning this.
$('.sn a, .sn-alt a').on('click',function(){ // Sidenav panel script
var panID = $("#" + $(this).data('panel') );
$("div[id*='sn-pan-']")
.stop()
.hide({width:'toggle'},400);
$(panID)
.css({'left' : '139px','overflow':'visible'})
.stop()
.animate
({ width: "toggle", opacity: "toggle"
}, { duration: "slow" });
$(".control-view").hide(); // Fadein menu close button
$(".control-view").not(":visible").stop().delay(400).fadeTo("fast", 0.33);
});
$('.sn, .sn-drop').click(function(e) {
$('ul.sidenav li').not(this).removeClass('active'); // Active class removal / add
$(this).stop(true, true).toggleClass("active");
});
$('.sn-alt').click(function(e) {
$('ul.additional li').not(this).removeClass('active'); // Active class removal / add
$(this).stop(true, true).toggleClass("active");
});
$(".control-view").hover( // Hover effect for menu close button
function () {
$(".control-view").stop().hide().fadeTo("fast", 1); // Hover in
},
function () {
$(".control-view").fadeTo("normal",0.33); // Fade back to previous set opacity
});
$('.control-view').click(function(e) {
$("div[id*='sn-pan-']")
.stop(true,true)
.hide({width:'toggle'}, 100);
$('ul.sidenav li').not(this).removeClass('active');
$(".control-view").stop().fadeOut("fast");
});
$(".additional").hide(); // Controls for the 'design' dropdown
$(".sn-drop").click(function(){
$(".additional").slideToggle(300);
var scrt_var = Math.random();
return false; //Prevent the browser jump to the link anchor
});
Just add this JQuery, when you click on other link in your sidebar, it will close your .additional
$(".sn").click(function(){
$(".additional").slideUp(300);
var scrt_var = Math.random();
return false; //Prevent the browser jump to the link anchor
});

If it's just the links in the left that you want to be the trigger to close the dropdown then you can do it simply with this:
$('.sn').click(function(){
$('.additional').slideUp();
})

JQuery drop down, remain down while hover over drop down

I setup a jquery dropdown menu that works perfect. It drops down when a user rolls over a link. The problem is that when the user rolls over the content area of the drop down menu, it slides back up. I need to set up the code so that the slidedown box remains in the down position while the user's cursor is still over it.
Here is my HTML:
<ul id="tabnav">
<li class="tab2">My Leases</li>
</ul>
<div id="leases">
<!-- slide down content here -->
</div>
JS Trigger:
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function(){
$(".btn-slide").hover(function(){
$("#leases").slideToggle("medium");
$(this).toggleClass("active");
return false;
});
});
</script>
Any ideas?
EDIT: Here is a link to page in question: http://designvillain.com/testbed/600/601.html
I'm not sure if this is what you want, but I'll just drop it here. It waits 500ms before sliding up #leases, and only when appropriate
var isMousedOver;
var hideDropdown = function(a) {
setTimeout( function() {
if (isMousedOver) return;
$("#leases").slideUp("medium");
$(a).removeClass("active");
}, 500);
}
$(".btn-slide").hover(
function(){
$("#leases").stop(true,true).slideDown("medium");
isMousedOver = true;
$(".btn-slide").removeClass("active");
$(this).addClass("active");
var that = this;
$("#leases").data("mouseoutfn", function() { hideDropdown(that) });
},
function(){
isMousedOver = false;
hideDropdown(this);
}
);
$("#leases").hover(
function() {
isMousedOver = true;
},
function() {
isMousedOver = false;
$(this).data("mouseoutfn")();
}
);
Here's a demo: http://jsfiddle.net/mMRZc/
The .hover() binds two events, mouseenter and mouseleave.
I would instead go granular and use the mouseenter() on the .btn-slide and the mouseleave() on the .leases
$(function()
{
$(".btn-slide").mouseenter(function(){
$("#leases").slideToggle("medium");
$(this).toggleClass("active");
});
$("#leases").mouseleave(function(){
$(".btn-slide").toggleClass("active");
$(this).slideToggle("medium");
});
});
EDIT: Note, if the mouse never enters the #leases div, it will not get the mouseleave, and you may need to consider that.
EDIT2: fix my bad finger typing of funciton to function
I assume the div is hidden on page load and you want it to show when you hover over the link? Change toggle to down...
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#leases").hide();
$(".btn-slide").hover(function(){
$("#leases").slideDown("medium");
$(this).toggleClass("active");
return false;
});
});
Does it need to slide back up sometime?
