Highcharts will not display data - javascript

I am pulling data from the mtgox api, I can see in my console that all the data is reaching my chart correctly. However, I cannot get the data to display on my chart. Any help is appreciated thanks.
var now = new Date();
$('#container').highcharts({
chart: {
type: 'line',
},
title: {
text: 'Bitcoin Price',
},
subtitle: {
text: 'Source: MtGox.com',
},
xAxis: {
type: 'datetime'
},
plotOptions: {
series: {
pointStart: Date.UTC(now.getYear(), now.getMonth(), now.getDate()),
pointInterval: 24 * 3600 * 1000 // one day
}
},
yAxis: {
title: {
text: 'Price'
},
},
series: [{
name: 'Bitcoin',
data: series
}]
});
}
});
});

I think the issue is that you've wrapped part of your success callback in $(function () {...}). This attaches an event handler that will be fired when the DOM is ready. You won't need it in your AJAX success callback since that is already wrapped in $(document).ready(function() {...});
Remove the $(function () {...}) wrapper in your success callback and see if your chart works then.
EDIT
Also, you need to pass a year, month, and (optional) date to the Date.UTC function: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/JavaScript/Reference/Global_Objects/Date/UTC

Highcharts Not displaying function's data values

i Have created a Highchart using the Following Highchart's Demo:
https://www.highcharts.com/demo/dynamic-update
Now What I did I created my Own function to add dynamic values to the Chart.
I created a function to get the dynamic data from a particular php file whose data changes on every page load event.
I am getting the data values in the getData function console.log
Here is the Script That I am using.
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function(){
function getData(){
$.ajax({
type: 'GET',
url: 'data.php',
success: function(data){
// var number = document.write(data) ;
console.log(data);
return data ;
}
}) ;
}
Highcharts.chart('chart', {
chart: {
type: 'spline',
animation: Highcharts.svg, // don't animate in old IE
marginRight: 10,
events: {
load: function () {
// set up the updating of the chart each second
var series = this.series[0];
setInterval(function () {
var x = (new Date()).getTime(), // current time
y = getData();
console.log(y);
series.addPoint([x, y], true, true);
}, 1000);
}
}
},
time: {
useUTC: false
},
title: {
text: 'Live random data'
},
xAxis: {
type: 'datetime',
tickPixelInterval: 150
},
yAxis: {
title: {
text: 'Value'
},
plotLines: [{
value: 0,
width: 1,
color: '#808080'
}]
},
tooltip: {
headerFormat: '<b>{series.name}</b><br/>',
pointFormat: '{point.x:%Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S}<br/>{point.y:.2f}'
},
legend: {
enabled: false
},
exporting: {
enabled: false
},
series: [{
name: 'Random data',
data: (function () {
// generate an array of random data
var data = [],
time = (new Date()).getTime(),
i;
for (i = -19; i <= 0; i += 1) {
data.push({
x: time + i * 1000,
y: getData()
});
}
return data;
}())
}]
});
});
</script>
Now as you can see that I have created a getData function and getting the data value in return.
On console log under the getData function, I am getting integer Value in return every one second.
the problem is that under the Highchart's function, I am not able to get the data values using getData function, it's returning undefined in the console .
Highchart's is running but it does not show any data points. it is moving but without showing any data points.
Please correct me in the area , where I am doing wrong.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks
ajax calls are run asynchronously so you cant really return data from it.
instead you should render chart inside the ajax success function.
A good example is here already.
https://www.highcharts.com/docs/working-with-data/live-data
Basically
1. point on load to call a function getData
2. in Getdata call ajax function.
3. in success of ajax render chart with new data.
document.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded', function() {
chart = Highcharts.chart('container', {
chart: {
type: 'spline',
events: {
load: requestData
}
},
title: {
text: 'Live random data'
},
xAxis: {
type: 'datetime',
tickPixelInterval: 150,
maxZoom: 20 * 1000
},
yAxis: {
minPadding: 0.2,
maxPadding: 0.2,
title: {
text: 'Value',
margin: 80
}
},
series: [{
name: 'Random data',
data: []
}]
});
});
/**
* Request data from the server, add it to the graph and set a timeout
* to request again
*/
function requestData() {
$.ajax({
url: 'live-server-data.php',
success: function(point) {
var series = chart.series[0],
shift = series.data.length > 20; // shift if the series is
// longer than 20
// add the point
chart.series[0].addPoint(point, true, shift);
// call it again after one second - add this if you want to auto refresh
// setTimeout(requestData, 1000);
},
cache: false
});
}

dynamic chart with Highcharts using json

I've a question about how to create a dynamic chart using json, I tried and my graph didn't show a result, when I checked out, I've no error with my code. This is my code :
<script>
var chart; // global
function requestData() {
$.ajax({
url: 'api_heartrate.php',
success: function(point) {
var series = chart.series[0],
shift = series.data.length > 20; // shift if the series is longer than 20
// add the point
chart.series[0].addPoint(eval(point), true, shift);
// call it again after one second
setTimeout(requestData, 1000);
},
cache: false
});
}
$(document).ready(function() {
chart = new Highcharts.Chart({
chart: {
renderTo: 'container',
defaultSeriesType: 'spline',
events: {
load: requestData
}
},
title: {
text: 'Live random data'
},
xAxis: {
type: 'datetime',
tickPixelInterval: 150,
maxZoom: 20 * 1000
},
yAxis: {
minPadding: 0.2,
maxPadding: 0.2,
title: {
text: 'Value',
margin: 80
}
},
series: [{
name: 'Random data',
data: []
}]
});
});
</script>
</head>
<body>
<div id="container" style="width: 800px; height: 400px; margin: 0 auto"></div>`
this is my json :
http://health.barrukurniawan.tech/api_heartrate.php
[{"time":"2018-08-02 09:30:11","nilai_sensor":"78"}]
I tried following a tutorial from this link :
Highcharts Dynamic Chart with MySQL Data doesn't reload
Thanks for your attention, gladly waiting for an answer :)
There are multiple small errors in your approach
eval is bad, parse it using JSON.parse instead.
During load, chart is not defined yet, so your callback will not work.
Highcharts needs time in milliseconds since 1970.
highcharts expects an object {x: , y: ,...} you give it {time: , nilai_sensor: }.
Solutions:
point = JSON.parse(point)
events: {
load: function() {
setInterval(function() {
requestData(chart)
}, 1000);
}
}
new Date(point[0].time).getTime()
{x: new Date(point[0].time).getTime(), y: point[0].nilai_sensor}
Here is a working example using your input with static data(and some added time to keep it moving): https://jsfiddle.net/ewolden/md975oLk/23/

Highcharts showing ticks number, instead of date

I'm trying to create a graph from JSON received from a web API.
I had it working, and then decided to start refactoring.
After a while I suddenly noticed that the xAxis no longer shows dates, but instead it seems to be showing ticks.
I'm quite inexperienced with JavaScript and even more so with highcharts so I cannot spot my mistake.
(source: mortentoudahl.dk)
The change I did was making an option object, and pass it to highcharts upon instantiation, according to the instructions found here:
http://www.highcharts.com/docs/getting-started/how-to-set-options
When I compare my code to the last code block in that link, it seems to be the same, except for the options object.
var pm10 = [];
var pm25 = [];
var options = {
chart: {
zoomType: 'x',
renderTo: 'container'
},
title: {
text: "Compounds in the air at HCAB"
},
subtitle: {
text: document.ontouchstart === undefined ? 'Click and drag in the plot area to zoom in' : "Pinch the chart to zoom in"
},
xAxix: {
type: 'datetime'
},
yAxis: {
title: {
text: 'µg/m³'
}
},
series: [{
name: 'Particles less than 2.5 µm',
data: pm25,
pointStart: Date.UTC(2016, 5, 8),
pointInterval: 86400 * 1000 // One day
}, {
name: 'Particles less than 10 µm',
data: pm10,
pointStart: Date.UTC(2016, 5, 8),
pointInterval: 86400 * 1000 // One day
}]
};
function ReverseAndSetArrays(data) {
$.each(data.reverse(), function(key, value) {
if ("PM10b" in value) {
pm10.push(value["PM10b"]);
};
if (!("PM10b" in value)) {
pm10.push(null);
};
if ("PM25b" in value) {
pm25.push(value["PM25b"]);
};
if (!("PM25b" in value)) {
pm25.push(null);
};
});
};
var url = "super secret url";
$.getJSON(url, function(data) {
ReverseAndSetArrays(data);
var chart = new Highcharts.Chart(options);
});
<script src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.11.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script src="//code.highcharts.com/highcharts.js"></script>
<div id="container"></div>
The following configuration in your options object is incorrect:
xAxix: {
type: 'datetime'
}
It should be:
xAxis: {
type: 'datetime'
}

Delay Loading Highcharts' Chart

I was wondering if there was a way of delaying the loading of a Highcharts' chart on page load. At the moment my chart is loading as soon as the page opens which is causing my code to crash as the script has not had enough time to fetch the data for the chart.
Does anyone know how to get around this?
There's a couple ways of doing this. One is to initialise the chart when you receive the data (example using jQuery post, data looks like [5,6,8,11]):
$(function(){
$.post('test_highchart.asp', {actn:'load-data'}, function(dat){
$('#chart').highcharts({
chart: {
type: 'bar'
},
title: {
text: 'Delayed Loading'
},
xAxis: {
title: {
text: 'Values'
}
},
series:[{
name: 'value',
data: dat
}]
});
}, 'json');
});
Or you can initialise the chart on load then pump the data into the chart when you get it (again data looks like [5,6,8,11]):
$(function(){
window.chart = new Highcharts.Chart({
chart: {
renderTo: 'chart',
type: 'bar'
},
title: {
text: 'Delayed Loading'
},
xAxis: {
title: {
text: 'Values'
}
},
series:[{
name: 'values',
id: 'series1',
data: []
}]
});
// load data:
$.post('test_highchart.asp', {actn:'load-data'}, function(dat){
$.each(dat, function (val) {
// add points to chart:
window.chart.get('series1').addPoint(val);
});
}, 'json');
});
check http://www.highcharts.com/docs/working-with-data/live-data for details.
cheers

Highcharts JSON, chart not displaying

I have some data I wish to display on a chart but it just shows the title and no points get drawn. The JSON data I receive is correct as per my knowledge, I think it's somewhere in the chart function but I can't really point it out.
This is what I have so far:
data.php (the output):
{"name":"Temperature","data":[34,28,29,28,34,28,32,27,24,30,25,32,34,28,34,33,24,33,30,27,24,27,26,29]}
The important bits of the html:
<script>
$(function () {
var chart;
$(document).ready(function() {
$.getJSON("data.php", function(json) {
chart = new Highcharts.Chart({
chart: {
renderTo: 'container',
type: 'line',
marginRight: 130,
marginBottom: 25
},
title: {
text: 'Temperature vs. Time',
x: -20 //center
},
xAxis: {
categories: ['12AM', '1AM', '2AM', '3AM', '4AM', '5AM', '6AM', '7AM', '8AM', '9AM', '10AM', '11AM','12PM', '1PM', '2PM', '3PM', '4PM', '5PM', '6PM', '7PM', '8PM', '9PM', '10PM', '11PM']
},
yAxis: {
title: {
text: 'Temperature'
},
plotLines: [{
value: 0,
width: 1,
color: '#808080'
}]
},
series: json
});
});
});
});
</script>
It's supposed to show temperature per hour but unfortunately nothing comes up. Any idea what could be wrong?
series should be an array. So you need to just change:
series: json
To:
series: [json]
Working example: http://codepen.io/anon/pen/Kfgsd
Documentation: http://www.highcharts.com/docs/chart-concepts/series
your problem i think that you haven't specified where your chart should be inserted to, afaik you either should specify the renderTo option for the class constructor options or use the $('#container').haighcharts({...}) jquery helper
