Copy inside a variable the html of an external link - javascript

Here is my previous question: Filter new content to only display specific divs
I would like to get and copy some content from an external page inside a variable.
To perform it, I'm using the jquery.get function.
// This code is adding to the div the content
$('.result').html(data);
I would like to save the content inside a variable to be able to get only informations that I want
$.get('ajax/test.html', function(data) {
// Add to the <div class="result"> the html of data
$('.result').html(data);
// I would like some thing like this
var result = the html of data
});
Thanks for your help

The data variable IS the actual HTML you want...
$.get('ajax/test.html', function (data) {
var result = data;
alert(result);
});
Here is a working example
If you then want to use jquery on that HTML data, you must convert it to a JQuery object...
var htmlElement = $(result);
//can now do htmlElement.find(...
Here is an example that pulls the date from the BBC news website

How to pass data from Laravel View to Ajax or Javascript code without html div (id or class) - Laravel 5.3

So, currently I am passing values stored in Database MySQL to View (using Controller). I do simple querying ModelName::where()->first();.
I have my data right now in View. I want to use that data in Ajax or Javascript code that I am writing.
I can have 46 values and one way to do this is to have <div id="field1"></div> for 46 times set div style to display:none in css and in Javascript use document.getElementById('field1'); to access the values and finally, do whatever I want to do with it.
But I find this quite long and un-necessary to do as there is no point of printing all the values in html first and then accessing it. How can I directly get {{$data}} in Javascript?
myCode
public function index(Request $request){
$cattfs = Cattf::all();
$cattts = Cattt::all();
$cattos = Catto::all();
return view('/index',compact('cattfs'));
}
View
Nothing in the view. and I prefer it to be none.
Javascript and Ajax
$(document).ready(function()
{
init();
});
function init(){
my_Date = new Date();
var feedback = $.ajax({
url:url,
dataType: "JSON",
type: "GET",
}).success(function(data){
console.log(data);
//I have some data called data from url
//I want some data from controller like: cattf,cattt,catto
//I will combine url data and cattf and do simple arithmetic to it
//finally output to the view.
}).responseText;
}
One good way would be to actually make a small API to get your data. Let's say you wanted to retrieve users.
In the api.php file in your route folder:
Route::get('/posts', function () {
return Post::all();
});
and then you just need to use http://yourUrl.dev/api/posts as your URL sent in your .ajax() call to work with what you need.
I found best solution use this: https://github.com/laracasts/PHP-Vars-To-Js-Transformer
It takes values from controller directly to Javascript.

Get info a field of a page with javascript or jquery

i need to get an information of another page with javascript or jquery, to show that field on another page
the id of the field is "profile_field_13_1" and it shows the member status
I would like to get that "status" to put in an html page, how can i do that?
I already tried this:
jQuery(document).ready(function(){if(jQuery('#profile-advanced-right').length){
var status=jQuery('.middleline #profile_field_13_1 dd div:eq(0)').html();
<div class="status"><span id="cs">'+status+'</span></div>
');
}});
This is where you can use ajax.
var url = "mypage.html";
$.get(url,function(data){
var contentFromTheOtherPage = data;
//process it here
});

How can i get javascript variable from jquery

I have next code block:
$.post('page.php', function(data)
{
//data - full page info
});
Returned data is html markup. And in this html i have javascript section with array:
var someArray= new Array();
How can i get this array object from data object?
Edit:
I cannot change data which returned from page.php. And basically this javascript just plugin to change existing page UI from other website. So i know that page contains array and i need get data from it.
It will work fine just append it to the body, then read in the variable.

how to access and output json results from $.ajax() success callback

I'm using coldfusion and jquery. This is my first real go at jquery and I've searched and read for a long time without cracking this so any help would be greatly appreciated...
Ok, I have an autocomplete returning an id. I'm then passing the id to a second function that returns an array of datatype json. The autocomplete works great and I can get the json to display in an alert box but am a bit stuck on how to use the json results.
I'm trying to loop through the json array and write the values into radio buttons, which then dynamically display on page... So the whole idea is this.
user is selected from drop box and id is returned
user id from selection is passed to user options function and user options are returned in json arrary.
json array is looped through and on each iteration a radio button is created with appropriate values.
all radio buttons are then output to screen for access and selection.
The code I have so far is this :
<script type="text/javascript">
// <!--
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#userName").autocomplete({
cache:false,
source: "/jqueryui/com/autocomplete.cfc?method=getUser&returnformat=json",
//setup hidden fields
select:function(event,ui) {
var uid = ui.item.id;
$("#userid").val(ui.item.id);
// start call to get user options
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "/jqueryui/com/autocomplete.cfc?method=getUserOptions&returnformat=json",
data: ({ userid: uid }),
success: function(data) {
alert(data)
}
});
/// end call to get user options
}
});
});
// --->
</script>
The json displayed in the "alert(data)" popup, which looks fine, is this :
[{"productname":"licence free","quantity":1,"term":12,"id":1},
{"productname":"licence basic","quantity":1,"term":24,"id":1},
{"productname":"licence full","quantity":1,"term":12,"id":2}]
I need to know how to loop through this data and create a radio button for each option, probably something like this, and display them all on screen, which I'm guessing I'll just write to a via the dom once I have something to write :
<input type="radio" name="userOption" value="#id#|#qty#|#term#">#productname#
I have tried a few things, without success, such as :
for(var i =0;i<Data.length-1;i++)
{
var item = Data[i];
alert(item.productname + item.id);
}
And
$.each(data.items, function(i,item){
alert(item);
if ( i == 3 ) return false;
});
I couldn't get either of these to work.
Anyway this is getting a bit long winded. Hope it's clear, and again any help or suggestions appreciated.
Thanks!
First check the datatype of the data parameter returned. You might first need to use .parseJSON() to construct a JSON object.
Then your for loop syntax is not correct. this code works for me:
var data = [{"productname":"licence free","quantity":1,"term":12,"id":1},
{"productname":"licence basic","quantity":1,"term":24,"id":1},
{"productname":"licence full","quantity":1,"term":12,"id":2}];
for (var i=0; i<data.length; i++) {
alert(data[i].productname);
}
Here's a jsfiddle
Try checking parseJSON jquery function.
I quess that the type is a string? If so try it with the javascript function eval. It converts a string to a javascript type.. in your case something like this should work:
Var new_data = eval(data);
Now it should be a workable array/object
Edit: to stay with the data variable:
data = eval(data);
Edit 2:
Your ajax call misses the dataType property:
dataType: "json"
With this you dont need the stuff above i said
Use a each loop to get data and appendTo function to print data in an HTML element with result1 id:
dataType:"json", //nature of returned data
success: function(data) {
var content = '';
$.each(data, function(i, dbdata) {
content += '<p>' + dbdata.columnName + '<p>';
});
$(content).appendTo("#result1");
}

How to Make a Feed From User Submitted Posts

I'm trying to figure out how to use AJAX to create a Twitter-like feed that displays user's posts on the same page immediately after they push the submit button. It would be an infinite-feed site that would have a "more" button at the bottom.
All I'm trying to make is a simple page containing a textarea box with a submit button and to have user submissions appear below the box as they are submitted.
If possible, a walk through or discussion of the script needed to do this would be great.
Thanks so much
All you need is a server-side script with an SQL query that would return newer posts.
have your javascript store a variable of the date or of the last post id (used PHP for clarification):
result = mysql_query("SELECT ID,POST FROM POSTS WHERE DATE>" . $_GET['date']); //or use WHERE ID> $_GET['id']
while(rows[] = mysq_fetch_array(query));
print json_encode(rows);
now you have a server-side script that will return new posts, so all you have to do is write javascript function for the more button:
updatePosts = function () {
$.ajax({
url: 'serversiderUrl?lastId=' + last_id, //last_id is global variable for the id of the last post on the page
success: function(data){
data = JSON.parse(data);
for(i in data){
$('#posts_container').append(data[i].post); //do your appending functions here
last_id = data[i].id;
}
}
}
now for posting new entries create a server-side script of your favorite language that handles new posts:
result = mysql_query("INSERT INTO POSTS VALUES(''," . urldecode($_POST['POST']) . ")");
now for the client side:
submit_post = function(){
$.ajax({
type: 'POST',
url:'yourposturl',
data: "post=" + encodeURIComponent($('#textArea').text()),
success: function(){
updatePosts(); // call the function that update the posts so the new entry is now added to the page
}
});
}
Now bind the functions to the appropriate buttons when the document is fully loaded:
$(document).ready(function (){
$('#moreButtonId').click(updatePosts);
$('#submitButtonId').click(submitPost);
});
There are many ways such as the submit button kept sending it to the database while we'd append text to a container underneath. Or we can update the container underneath to create a container (page) that are similar, after the ajax response is successful then we append the data to the container beneath
$.post(url,function(data){
//Here you can append the data responsed by the ajax request to the container underneath
});
But you have to have a exactly same view with a conatiner (feed container) existing in the currently page
