alright so i have some unique problems; first of all, my jquery is not working; i very well might have not put it in the html right so i am going to toss a good deal of code out to see;
basically i need the rollover class image to change to its hover state when the div class is rolled-over (i have a some css which changes the div class display to block) alright so here is the html
<div id="header">
<div class="home" id="home" ><p><img src="images/home-crown.png" class="rollover" width="100px" /></p></div>
<script type="text/javascript" src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1/jquery.min.js" ></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="js/load-it-up.js"></script>
/so yeah... trying to swap that image stuff out here is jquery
$(document).ready(function(){
$("img.rollover").hover(
function()
{this.src = this.src.replace("images/home-crown.png","images/home-crown-hover.png");},
function()
{this.src = this.src.replace("images/home-crown-hover.png","images/home-crown.png");}
);
});
really frustrated with it because i have tried multiple solutions; any help at all would be appreciated; it is probably something stupid :P
right now i am just trying to get the image to rollover (at least)
i really want the rollover to activate when the div is rolled over (the #home div)
Try this.
$("img.rollover").hover(
function(){
$(this).attr("src","images/home-crown-hover.png");
},
function(){
$(this).attr("src","images/home-crown.png");
}
);

I have coded a small Three.js animation that I put i following way in my HTML page :
<div id="mainWindow" class="popup_block">
<!-- Javascript for simulation -->
<script src="../temp/webgl-debug.js"></script>
<script src="../temp/three.min.js"></script>
<script src="../temp/Detector.js"></script>
<script src="../temp/TrackballControls.js"></script>
<script src="../temp/OrbitControls.js"></script>
<script src="../temp/dat.gui.js"></script>
<script src="./main_simulation.js"></script>
<br>
This is a test : I want to put text below the "div id="mainWindow", not above like here :<br>
How could I do that ???
</div>
where I handle the Three.js scene of "mainWindow" in main_simulation.js
Unfortunately, I can't get to put after </div> some text or other HTML elements : they are systematically put above the <div id="mainWindow">... </div> block
You can see this issue on the following link :
Can't put text below Three.js
Maybe this problem comes from the fact that I am loading JS scripts at the bottom of HTML page but I am not sure.
If I load JS scripts in <head> section, I can't make appear the Three.js scene.
Could anyone give me a trick to put text after the main div of Three.js ?
Regards
UPDATE 1 :
I have also tried with :
<div id="mainWindow" class="popup_block"></div>
<!-- Javascript for simulation -->
<script src="../temp/webgl-debug.js"></script>
<script src="../temp/three.min.js"></script>
<script src="../temp/Detector.js"></script>
<script src="../temp/TrackballControls.js"></script>
<script src="../temp/OrbitControls.js"></script>
<script src="../temp/dat.gui.js"></script>
<script src="./main_simulation.js"></script>
<br>
This is a test : I want to put text below the "div id="mainWindow", not above like here :<br>
How could I do that ???
But the problem is still present
UPDATE 2 :
Here's an illustration of my issue :
In HTML source, the text is located below the three.js div, but the rendering makes put it above.
UPDATE 3 :
First of all, its not really a matter of three.js, but there is still an important issue to address.
Whatever functions You have, either plain image positioning, or three.js placing the renderer in a div, It's easy to lose track of what is appended where.
It can happen when the html skeleton is being rather scarce, for most of the page is created in js. It's a bit unclear to anyone but the original developer, so he needs to keep track of what is going on. Imo this is a bit impractical.
I wouldn't create elements in the body in js, I'd rather append them to existing wrapper containers, so I could easily manage them with any css:
<div id="mainWindow"></div>
<div id="image"></div>
<div id="below"></div>
if You switch the target div from the body, to #image, You can rearrange them however You like, without making any changes in the js code, which could cause a chain of unpredicted behaviour.
Now the desired arrangement could be made using the position:relative; css property.
I would like to use javascript to change the logo in my header when the background image id is for example "dark", so that the logo changes from one color to another and people can actually see the logo again. Right now what I have is this, but it doesn't seem to do the job and I am not even sure if it could even work tbh.
<div class="slider--image" id="dark" STYLE="background-image: url(source1.png)">
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).on('document_change', function () {
if (document.getElementById('dark')) {
document.getElementById("main--logo").src = "new.gif";
}
});
</script>
So the main--logo is the id of the logo visible in my header.
The problem is, it is a full page slider and the entire background changes, so sometimes the logo needs to be black and sometimes it needs to be white. Is there a way to do it like I tried to, or maybe a workaround?
Thanks!
you solution will not work as #main--logo is not found on your HTML
also .src will not work as it's not an image but a background-image
Try to use class instead of id and use jQuery function hasClass()
$(document).on('document_change', function () {
if ($('.slider--image').hasClass(dark)) {
$("#main--logo").src = "new.gif";
}
});
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/angularjs/1.2.23/angular.min.js"></script>
<div class="slider--image dark" style="background-image: url(source1.png)">
</div>
Ok Im trying to do a few different things but they are all pretty simple. I can only find answers that somewhat give a piece of what Im trying to do and when I mix and match different answers they don't work well together. I figured it would be better to ask specifically.
The hidden divs on the bottom are filled with images so I only want them to load when a link is clicked and not when the page is loaded. Each hidden div will have three divs of its own that target the three top divs so when you click the link for that hidden div all three of the divs in that hidden div load into the three top divs. I'm pretty sure I know how to make one link trigger different events so you don't have to help me there unless you know a simpler way to do this. Here are the main things I need help with:
loading div content only on click and not page load
targeting a div to load other div content into
when link is clicked to open a new hidden div, the other hidden div that was showing goes away
and because this is a tech website it would be nice to have some kind of tech-y transition when switching between/loading new divs. If nothing else a fade would work but you don't have to help me with this part, just if you happen to know a code or webpage with different transition effects for loading content that would be nice.
I don't really have any pre written code yet that will conflict with whatever you suggest so you can suggest anything. You don't have to write everything out, I can catch on with an example. Maybe.
Thank you I know there are separate individual answers but again I have had trouble trying to get them to work together or they will do part of what I need but not the other. I thought if I just asked instead someone could whip up a code for me in like 5 minutes. Thanks.
edit: Ill add code but I don't think it'll help much.
<div id="menu"> <a> -Cyber glasses Link- that opens cyberglasses div and loads it into presentation div </a></div>
<div id="presentation">
<div id="div-pic-1">Empty space to load stuff into</div>
<div id="center-content">Empty space to load stuff into</div>
<div id="div-pic-2">Empty space to load stuff into</div>
</div>
<div id="cyberglasses">(this div does not appear on pageload and only loads on click of the menu link named "Cyber glasses Link" at top of page)
<div id="cg1"> picture 1 of cyber glasses to load into id div-pic-1 </div>
<div id="cgcontent"> description of cyber glasses to load into id center-content</div>
<div id="cg2"> picture 2 of cyber glasses to load into id div-pic-2<div>
</div>
The menu link at the top named -Cyber glasses Link- loads div cg1 into div-pic-1
and div cgcontent into center-content
and div cg2 into div-pic-2
all at the same time. But the only div that loads on page load is the presentation div and menu div not the cyberglasses div. Cyberglasses div only loads on click of the cyber glasses link.

What would be a good way to show hidden content with javascript, without having the image elements <img src="myimage.jpg"> of the hidden content load their images in google chrome or any other browsers until the content is actually shown?
hiding the content with the css rule display: none will not prevent the images from loading, and I would like to avoid using ajax calls.
EDIT 1 as discussed in the comments, a better alternative would be to use a template. As an example I picked John Resig’s Microtemplating engine:
<div id="content_container">
<script type="text/html" id="content">
<div>
<img src="..."/>
</div>
</script>
</div>
<button onclick="document.getElementById('content_container').innerHTML = tmpl('content', {});">show div</button>
See fiddle
EDIT 2
As the original poster commented, it's perfectly possible to grab the contents of a <script type="text/html"> element. Templating engine's not necessary:
<div id="content_container">
<script type="text/html" id="content">
<div>
<img src="..."/>
</div>
</script>
</div>
<button onclick="document.getElementById('content_container').innerHTML = document.getElementById('content').innerHTML;">show div</button>
First Answer
(see in edits)
To do what you want within your requirements you could have javascript write the content when you want it displayed. So you would store your HTML in a javascript string and just use script to then insert it into the page when you want it. Its not a very nice way of doing it but it would mean that it would only load images at that point.
Alternatively you could put the HTML in but have the images pointing at nothing (or a blank placeholder, etc.) and then use script to programatically populate the image sources to the correct values when you call the show function to show the page.
Which of these you choose is probably more about readability than anything else though I would favour the second approach (just tweaking the image sources).
First, define a CSS style:
.invisible {
display: none;
}
Add this class to the objects in the HTML. Then anywhere in the JavaScript, simply add or remove the class, or change the display to block or float etc. In jQuery:
http://api.jquery.com/addClass/
http://api.jquery.com/show/
EDIT:
If you don't want the image to load, then use an AJAX call instead.
http://api.jquery.com/jQuery.get/
jQuery.get('myImage.jpg', function(data) {
jQuery('.imageContainer').html(data);
});
EDIT 2:
Load the src into the img once it's needed. You could check the scroll position etc.
http://jsfiddle.net/LYMRV/
Seems like it is possible to hide content using a script tag with type="text/html", it even prevents any images and iframes from loading in the background,
for example:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<script type="text/javascript">
document.addEventListener('click',function(e){
if(e.target.id=='content_show'){
e.preventDefault();
document.getElementById('content_visible').innerHTML = document.getElementById('content_hidden').innerHTML;//document.getElementById('content_hidden').text also works
}
});
</script>
</head>
</body>
<img src="image1.jpg"/>
<script type="text/html" id="content_hidden">
<img src="image2.jpg"/>
<img src="image3.jpg"/>
<img src="image4.jpg"/>
</script>
Show Content
<div id="content_visible"></div>
</body>
</html>
Only thing to keep in mind is to avoid placing script tags inside #content_hidden.
Now if anyone is friendly enough to point out every flaw in this method, so that we can all benefit.
So I'm trying to have an effect that when you click on an image, two more images (stored in #sharebar) will slide out from the left. The issue is currently when the images slide out, they slide from the left under the button, and then shift up after the animation is complete. I would like everything to be on the same level the whole time, so that the images appear to slide out from behind.
Can anyone help me out? Here's what I have:
<script>
$(function() {
// run the currently selected effect
function slideOut() {
var options = {};
$("#sharebar").toggle("slide", options, 500, callback() );
};
function callback() {
};
// set effect from select menu value
$( "#download_link" ).click(function() {
slideOut();
return false;
});
$("#sharebar").hide();
});
</script>
</head>
<body>
<div style="margin:200px;min-height:10px;background:#e9e9e9;overflow:hidden;">
<img id="download_link" src="Download.png" style="z-index:2;"/>
<span id="sharebar" style="width:20px;z-index:1;">
<img id="exercise_link" src="exercises.png" />
<img id="subtitles_link" src="subtitles.png" />
</span>
Thanks in advance! :)
EDIT: I think this may have to do with z-index, but I'm not quite sure
I would definitely say z-index is going to be the way to go. It looks like you have some z-index things set already; just fix your z-index so the images layer on top of each other like you want them to.
<img id="download_link" src="Download.png" style="z-index:2;"/>
<span id="sharebar" style="width:20px;z-index:0;">
<img id="exercise_link" src="exercises.png" style="z-index:1" />
<img id="subtitles_link" src="subtitles.png" style="z-index:1" />
Just as a side-note: You're better off sticking these style attributes in a CSS document, rather than putting them in your HTML markup.
Setting the "top" element to have style="position:fixed" fixed the problem!
EDIT: Haha not sure why there's a downvote, it ended up fixing the problem.... :P
