First, create staticfiles folder. Inside that folder create css, js, and img folder.
settings.py
import os
PROJECT_DIR = os.path.dirname(__file__)
DATABASES = {
'default': {
'ENGINE': 'django.db.backends.sqlite3',
'NAME': os.path.join(PROJECT_DIR, 'myweblabdev.sqlite'),
'USER': '',
'PASSWORD': '',
'HOST': '',
'PORT': '',
}
}
MEDIA_ROOT = os.path.join(PROJECT_DIR, 'media')
MEDIA_URL = '/media/'
STATIC_ROOT = os.path.join(PROJECT_DIR, 'static')
STATIC_URL = '/static/'
STATICFILES_DIRS = (
os.path.join(PROJECT_DIR, 'staticfiles'),
)
main urls.py
from django.conf.urls import patterns, include, url
from django.conf.urls.static import static
from django.contrib import admin
from django.contrib.staticfiles.urls import staticfiles_urlpatterns
from myweblab import settings
admin.autodiscover()
urlpatterns = patterns('',
.......
) + static(settings.MEDIA_URL, document_root=settings.MEDIA_ROOT)
urlpatterns += staticfiles_urlpatterns()
template
{% load static %}
<link rel="stylesheet" href="{% static 'css/style.css' %}">

Refer django docs on static files.
In settings.py:
import os
CURRENT_PATH = os.path.abspath(os.path.dirname(__file__).decode('utf-8'))
MEDIA_ROOT = os.path.join(CURRENT_PATH, 'media')
MEDIA_URL = '/media/'
STATIC_ROOT = 'static/'
STATIC_URL = '/static/'
STATICFILES_DIRS = (
os.path.join(CURRENT_PATH, 'static'),
)
Then place your js and css files static folder in your project. Not in media folder.
In views.py:
from django.shortcuts import render_to_response, RequestContext
def view_name(request):
#your stuff goes here
return render_to_response('template.html', locals(), context_instance = RequestContext(request))
In template.html:
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="{{ STATIC_URL }}css/style.css" />
<script type="text/javascript" src="{{ STATIC_URL }}js/jquery-1.8.3.min.js"></script>
In urls.py:
from django.conf import settings
urlpatterns += patterns('',
url(r'^media/(?P<path>.*)$', 'django.views.static.serve', {'document_root': settings.MEDIA_ROOT, 'show_indexes': True}),
)
Project file structure can be found here in imgbin.

Read this https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/howto/static-files/:
For local development, if you are using runserver or adding
staticfiles_urlpatterns to your URLconf, you’re done with the setup –
your static files will automatically be served at the default (for
newly created projects) STATIC_URL of /static/.
And try:
~/tmp$ django-admin.py startproject myprj
~/tmp$ cd myprj/
~/tmp/myprj$ chmod a+x manage.py
~/tmp/myprj$ ./manage.py startapp myapp
Then add 'myapp' to INSTALLED_APPS (myprj/settings.py).
~/tmp/myprj$ cd myapp/
~/tmp/myprj/myapp$ mkdir static
~/tmp/myprj/myapp$ echo 'alert("hello!");' > static/hello.js
~/tmp/myprj/myapp$ mkdir templates
~/tmp/myprj/myapp$ echo '<script src="{{ STATIC_URL }}hello.js"></script>' > templates/hello.html
Edit myprj/urls.py:
from django.conf.urls import patterns, include, url
from django.views.generic import TemplateView
class HelloView(TemplateView):
template_name = "hello.html"
urlpatterns = patterns('',
url(r'^$', HelloView.as_view(), name='hello'),
)
And run it:
~/tmp/myprj/myapp$ cd ..
~/tmp/myprj$ ./manage.py runserver
It works!

Cannot connect .js files with html files in django

I am unable to connect my index.js file with Django and index.html
Django is connected to index.html fine but not to index.js. I have attached my settings.py, urls.py, index.html, webpack.config.js, and index.js files below.

BASE_DIR = Path(__file__).resolve().parent.parent
STATICFILES_DIR = os.path.join(BASE_DIR, 'static')
TEMPLATES_DIR = os.path.join(BASE_DIR, 'templates')
# Static files (CSS, JavaScript, Images)

'django.template.context_processors.debug',
'django.template.context_processors.request',
'django.contrib.auth.context_processors.auth',
'django.contrib.messages.context_processors.messages',
],
},
},
]
In settings.py DEBUG=True
urls.py:
from django.contrib import admin
from django.urls import path
from django.views.generic import TemplateView
urlpatterns = [
path('admin/', admin.site.urls),
path('hello/', TemplateView.as_view(template_name='index.html'))
]
index.html:
{% load static %}

entry: './js/index.js', // path to our input file
output: {
path: path.resolve(__dirname, './static'), // path to our Django static directory

return element;
}
document.body.appendChild(component())
I have tried changing DIRS in settings.py to
STATICFILES_DIRS = [
os.path.join(BASE_DIR, 'templates'),
os.path.join(BASE_DIR, 'static'),
]
but I get a list error, and if I change it to a tuple, I get a tuple error.
After Google for hours, I figured it out.
In the settings.py file under templates, DIRS should not include STATICFILES_DIRS and only include the path to the templates folder.
STAICFILES_DIRS should still be there but not called in DIRS
My settings.py now looks like this:
from pathlib import Path
import os
# Build paths inside the project like this: BASE_DIR / 'subdir'.
BASE_DIR = Path(__file__).resolve().parent.parent
STATICFILES_DIR = os.path.join(BASE_DIR, 'static')
TEMPLATES_DIR = os.path.join(BASE_DIR, 'templates')
# Static files (CSS, JavaScript, Images)
# https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/4.1/howto/static-files/
STATIC_URL = 'static/'
TEMPLATES = [
{
'BACKEND': 'django.template.backends.django.DjangoTemplates',
'DIRS': [STATICFILES_DIR,TEMPLATES_DIR,],
'APP_DIRS': True,
'OPTIONS': {
'context_processors': [
'django.template.context_processors.debug',
'django.template.context_processors.request',
'django.contrib.auth.context_processors.auth',
'django.contrib.messages.context_processors.messages',
],
},
},
]
Your template and static folder configuration in Settings.py should look like this, and both the template and static folders should be in the root directory.
TEMPLATES = [
{
"BACKEND": "django.template.backends.django.DjangoTemplates",
"DIRS": ["templates"],
"APP_DIRS": True,
"OPTIONS": {
"context_processors": [
"django.template.context_processors.debug",
"django.template.context_processors.request",
"django.contrib.auth.context_processors.auth",
"django.contrib.messages.context_processors.messages",
],
},
},
]
STATIC_URL = "/static/"
STATICFILES_DIRS = [BASE_DIR / "static"]
Whenever you want to link a js or css file in your html file, you use something like this
/static/name of folder where file is located/file-name
See example below
/static/js/index.js

Using the URLconf defined in projectname.urls, Django tried these URL patterns, The current path, appname/tablename/add/, didn't match any of these

When I deploying a Django project, I find this error:

Hint: This error come only with tables that contain the image field.

short_content = models.TextField(max_length=200)
content = RichTextField()
category = models.ForeignKey('Category', on_delete=models.CASCADE)
status = models.BooleanField(default=False)
recipe = models.ForeignKey('Recipes', on_delete=models.SET_NULL, null=True, blank=True)
date_created = models.DateTimeField(auto_now_add=True)
class Meta:
ordering = ['-date_created']

Path to my media file won't work in django project

I've tried to put my site that I've designed into django, and I've encountered some problemes with paths to my media file in css and javascript but now my css paths work but my javascripts file don't.
Thanks in advance for any help provided!
I've tried to change my STATIC_URL and all but it didn't work. it seems like django is changing my path for no reason.
WORKING:
How I wrote my Path into css (works.css in my project)
#font-face { font-family: gameboy; src: url('media/font/gameboy.ttf'); }
background-image: url('media/gif/drive3.gif');
NOT WORKING:
How I wrote my Path into javascript (works.js in my project)
var pic1 = 'media/picture/travis.jpg';
var pic2 = 'media/picture/snoop.jpg';
var pic3 = 'media/gif/vash.gif';
var pic4 = 'media/picture/snoop.jpg';
The http response:
