What I want to do is to make the button value to be "1" if the section opened by pressing it is visible, and make it show "2" if the section is not visible. (visible/not visible - hidden/visible).
Here is my failed attempt that I think got the closest to the truth:
$(document).ready(function(){
$(".doc1").hide();
$(".doc").click(function(){
$(".doc1").slideToggle("fast");
if($('.doc1').is(':visible')) {
document.getElementById('doc').value = '1';
}
else
document.getElementById('doc').value = '2';
});
});
The value is stuck on "2" whether the section is opened (visible) or hidden (.hide).
There are a couple things. First you have $(".doc").click. Do you mean $("#doc").click?
Secondly, if you start the animation before you check :visible, it will always be considered visible. You either need to make the value change the callback of the slideToggle call, or just reverse the assignment order and do slideToggle afterwards:
http://jsfiddle.net/95nKw/
According to jquery documentation:
During animations that hide an element, the element is considered to be visible until the end of the animation. During animations to show an element, the element is considered to be visible at the start at the animation.
May be you should wait until the animation is completed
$(".doc").click(function(){
$(".doc1").slideToggle("fast", function(){
if($('.doc1').is(':visible')) {
document.getElementById('doc').value = '1';
}
else
document.getElementById('doc').value = '2';
});
});
If you are going to use jquery, continue to use it through out. Makes it much easier to go back and fix/read.
Below might be what you are looking for.
$(document).ready(function(){
$(".doc1").hide();
$(".doc").click(function(){
$(".doc1").slideToggle("fast", function() {
if($(this).is(':visible')) {
$('#doc').val('1');
} else {
$('#doc').val('2');
}
});
});
});
Not tested, but i would try something like this:
$(document).ready(function(){
$(".doc1").hide();
$(".doc").click(function(){
$(".doc1").slideToggle("fast");
if($('.doc1').is(':visible')) {
$(".doc").val("1"); //or .val(1);
}
else
$(".doc").val("2");
});
});

I have a pop-over modal that I am loading on my page on load, I would like to make it once it's closed to not show up again for that user. I've done similar things with localStorage(); but for some reason can't figure out the syntax to make this work.
I tried a solution where it sets a class, but on refresh it will reload the original element, so now I am trying this idea where I change the state of of the modal to "visited". Any ideas what I could be missing to get this to work in the same way I'm hoping?
localStorage function:
$(function() {
if (localStorage) {
if (!localStorage.getItem('visited')) {
$('.projects-takeover').show();
}
} else {
$('.projects-takeover').show();
}
$('.projects-close').click(function() {
$('.projects-takeover').fadeOut();
});
localStorage.setItem('visited', true);
return false;
});
Here is a jsfiddle with the code implemented as well, thanks for the help!
You javascript code is correct. Good thing you added a jsfiddle as the problem becomes very easy to identify - the modal's style is set in such a way that it is always visible. Simply change the display property to nonŠµ in the .projects-takeover class and it should work. Check out the updated fiddle
Try this ->
$(function() {
var pt = $('.projects-takeover'); //i just hate repeating myself.
if (localStorage) {
if (!localStorage.getItem('visited')) {
pt.show();
} else {
pt.hide(); //this bit was missing
}
} else {
pt.show();
}
$('.projects-close').click(function() {
pt.fadeOut();
});
localStorage.setItem('visited', true);
return false;
});
I have a dropdown list that I am hiding on initialization since it's not needed unless the client actually selections a specific radiobuttonlist object. I'm presently setting it to false through
dlInterval.Attributes.CssStyle[HtmlTextWriterStyle.Visibility] = "hidden";
However, attempting to change this through javascript on selection, is failing, at present, I have my code set up to execute as such.
<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
$(document).ready(function () {
$("#<%=rblVectorChoices.ClientID%>").click(function() {
var intVectorSelectedIndex = $('#<%=rblVectorChoices.ClientID %> input[type=radio]:checked').val();
$("#<%=dlInterval.ClientID %>").style.visibility="visible";
if (intVectorSelectedIndex == 1) {
$("#<%=dlInterval.ClientID%>").show();
} else {
$("#<%=dlInterval.ClientID%>").hide();
}
});
});
</script>
As you can see I'm currently attempting to change the visibility from hidden, back to visible, yet I am receiving an error in the browser console 'TypeError: Cannot set property 'visibility' of undefined'
This doesn't make much sense to me, as the field should be hidden, and not just null. What is causing this to happen, and what is a good solution for such a thing?
The HTML attribute is not called visibility.
In CSS the corresponding attribute for .show() / .hide() is display.
the code you were looking for is :
dlInterval.Attributes.CssStyle["display"] = "none";
or you can just change the javascript to look like, I personally would think that you should hide the element in javascript if your going to show it in javascript . Instead of setting the display:none; in .Net code that is going to disappear when the page is rendered
just re-write your code like this:
<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
$(document).ready(function () {
// hide element initially
$("#<%=dlInterval.ClientID%>").hide();
$("#<%=rblVectorChoices.ClientID%>").click(function() {
// much easier way to check if check box is checked
if ( $("#<%=rblVectorChoices.ClientID input[type=radio]:checked%>").is(":checked)) {
$("#<%=dlInterval.ClientID%>").show();
} else {
$("#<%=dlInterval.ClientID%>").hide();
}
});
});
</script>
also , I strongly , strongly reccomend using classes to select your html elements with javascript or jquery , .Net mangles the id's and you have to write out this weird syntax to get the proper id, uses classes prevents all that
NOTE: if you're going to use this second example then you never need to mess with
dlInterval.Attributes.CssStyle["display"] = "none";
Can you use prop and compare if it's true or false? Also, you cant call $("#<%=dlInterval.ClientID %>").style.visibility="visible"; you have to call it this way:
For those of you reminiscing on the missing .NET inline ID's here's my modified code:
$(document).ready(function () {
$("#<%=rblVectorChoices.ClientID%>").click(function () {
var intVectorSelectedIndex = $('#<%=rblVectorChoices.ClientID%>').prop('checked');
$("#<%=dlInterval.ClientID%>").css('visibility', 'visible');
if (intVectorSelectedIndex == true) {
$("#<%=dlInterval.ClientID%>").show();
} else {
$("#<%=dlInterval.ClientID%>").hide();
}
});
I have this code that makes a box with information follow the mouse. It's really simple, just checks the custom attribute "description" in the div that you hover over and puts that in the box. However, I want to make it so if that div also has a certain CSS class, then it would put other information in the box, in addition to the other code still working.
$(document).ready(function(){
$(".hover").mousemove(function(e){
if ("div").hasclass("item"){
alert("div hasclass item");
} else {
var description = $(this).attr("description");
$("#hoverdiv").text(description).show();
$("#hoverdiv").css("top", e.clientY+10).css("left", e.clientX+5);
}
}).mouseout(function(){
$("#hoverdiv").hide();
});
});
that's the code I have now. None of the hovers in my page work at all. This is the code that works. It's identical in every way, except no if statement.
$(document).ready(function(){
$(".hover").mousemove(function(e){
var description = $(this).attr("description");
$("#hoverdiv").text(description).show();
$("#hoverdiv").css("top", e.clientY+10).css("left", e.clientX+5);
}).mouseout(function(){
$("#hoverdiv").hide();
});
});
I've tried time and time again to get this to work, and through my testing, it would seem that simply adding an if statement breaks the entire thing. I have absolutely no idea how to proceed or how to fix it.
The culrpit..
if ("div")
Maybe you were trying
if($("div").something()){
}
if ("div").hasclass("item") {
Should be:
if ( $("div").hasClass("item") ) {
For some more you can also test:
if ( $("div").is(".item") ) {

I put together this quick carousel that I'm using to cycle through different divs that contain graphs and other various data. I would like to have something indicating which "page" or div you are currently viewing.
Here is an example of what I'm currently doing to iterate through the divs.
http://jsfiddle.net/d6nZP/64/
My plan is to have a row of dots that have either a active or none active state depending on which page is indicated in the row. But even a basic page counter would work at this point.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks!
here is a simple pager for your carousel, enjoy it ;)
http://jsfiddle.net/d6nZP/65/
Created something you can use http://jsfiddle.net/BadBoyBill/8yHmy/
$("div[id^=marquee]:gt(0)").hide();
function startTimer(){
i = setInterval(rotate, 2000);
return i;
}
var intID = startTimer();
function stopTimer(){
clearInterval(intID);
}
function rotate(){
reference = $("div[id^=marquee]:visible").hide().next("div[id^=marquee]");
reference.length ? $(reference).fadeIn() : $("div[id^=marquee]:first").fadeIn() ;
dot = $(".indicator-on[id^=indicator]").removeClass("indicator-on").next("a[id^=indicator]").addClass("indicator-on");
dot.length ? $(dot).addClass("indicator-on") : $("a[id^=indicator]:first").addClass("indicator-on");
}
$("div[id^=marquee]").each(function(){
$("#indicators").append("<a href='#' id='indicator' class='indicator'></a>");
$(".indicator:first").addClass("indicator-on");
});
$("a[id^=indicator]").click(function(e){
var index = $("a[id^=indicator]").index(this);
//alert(index);
$("div[id=marquee]").hide();
$("div[id=marquee]").eq(index).show();
$("a[id=indicator]").removeClass("indicator-on");
$("a[id=indicator]").eq(index).addClass("indicator-on");
stopTimer();
intID = startTimer();
e.preventDefault();
});
$("a[id=indicator], div[id=marquee]").mouseenter(function(){
stopTimer();
//alert("mouseenter");
}).mouseleave(function(){
stopTimer();
intID = startTimer();
//alert("mouseexit");
});
The easiest way to do this would be to put something in the content divs themselves that acts as a counter, i.e. in the first div put "1/3", in the next "2/3", etc. That method, of course, would have the disadvantage of not being very responsive to change. A better option is to keep a separate variable that keeps track of which element is visible, then when the "next" button is clicked, the variable is incremented, then a check is run to see if that index exists. If not, you loop back the beginning. The opposite, of course, with the previous button.
I need to prevent link from being clicked for let's say 2 seconds.
Here is an example http://jsbin.com/orinib/4/edit
When you look at the rendered mode you see next and prev links. When you click next, it slides with a nice transition. However if you click multiple times there is no transition sort of, which is expected. But my question: is this how can I prevent clicking on the next link, for about 2 seconds (or what ever time it takes for transition to happen) so that no matter what transition will occur.
This is what I tried to use, but did not work:
function(){
var thePreventer = false;
$("#next").bind($(this),function(e){
if(!thePreventer){
thePreventer = true;
setTimeout(function(){
thePreventer = false;
}, 2000);
}else{
e.preventDefault();
}
});
}
Which I got from here "Disable" a link temporarily when clicked? I think. I believe that i cannot achieve this effect with this code (although it works on other links). I believe this is due to the fact that cycle-plugin got a hold of that link, and I understand that I have to bind/tap-into this functionality of the plugin. Please note: that this code may not work I just used it to show that I tried it and it did not work, you can reuse it if you have to or give me your own stuff.
Please help, if you can.
EDIT:
As mrtsherman proposed this simple yet elegant ANSWER: http://jsfiddle.net/LCWLb.
Take a look at the cycle options page. There are a number of ways to do this. I would consider using the pager event onPrevNextEvent. You can assign a callback function.
$('#slideshow').cycle({
pager: '#nav',
onPrevNextEvent: function(isNext, zeroBasedSlideIndex, slideElement) {
//disable controls
},
after: function(currSlideElement, nextSlideElement, options, forwardFlag) {
//reenable controls
}
});
The following will temporarily prevent clicks while a slideshow is running, as shown in this fiddle:
$.fn.extend({
delayClick: function(callback) {
this.bind('click', function(e) {
$self = $(this);
if( $self.hasClass('disabled') ) {
$('#log').append('<p>click prevented on '+$self.attr('id')+'</p>');
}
else {
$self.addClass('disabled');
callback.call(this, [arguments]);
setTimeout(function() {
$self.removeClass('disabled');
}, 1000);
}
return false;
});
}
});
