Popup a formatted modal dialog and forward when user acknowledges - javascript

I need to pop-up a modal dialog with a warning, wait for the warning to be acknowledged and then forward to a constructed url. My current attempt shows the dialog in the window and immediately forwards.
I need each link (button in the example) to be able to pass a parameter to the final url, thus the need to do it in an onclick. The html will be generated from a jsp.
See following for a demo:
<html>
<head></head>
<body>
<div id='container'>
<input type='button' name='StackOverflow' value='StackOverflow' onClick="Google('StackOverflow')" />
<br />
<br />
<input type='button' name='CodingHorror' value='CodingHorror' onClick="Google('CodingHorror')" />
<br />
<br />
</div>
<div id="dialog" style="display: none">
<em>Going to Google</em>
<hr />
<ul>
<li>No guarantee is made that this will work.</li>
<li>We take no responsibility for the consequences of this action.</li>
</ul>
</div>
<script type='text/javascript' src='js/jquery.js'></script>
<script type='text/javascript' src='js/jquery.simplemodal.js'></script>
<script>
function Google(s) {
// Replace this.
//alert("Going to: "+s);
// What to do here to popup a formatted dialog in place of the alert, wait for it to be acknowledged and then proceed with the forward.
// Doesn't work.
jQuery("#dialog").modal();
window.location='http://www.google.co.uk?as_q='+s;
}
</script>
</body>
</html>
You will need jQuery and simplemodal.

Cracked it!! You have to do the forwarding through the onClose.
Note that I am setting the class of my dialog div to simplemodal-close so clicking anywhere in it is considered a close. This is because this is a touch-screen driven tool.
<html>
<head>
<style>
#simplemodal-container {
background-color:#afafaf;
border:solid;
padding:12px;
cursor:pointer
}
</style>
</head>
<body>
<div id='container'>
<br />
<br />
<input type='button' name='StackOverflow' value='StackOverflow' onClick="Google('StackOverflow')" />
<br />
<br />
<input type='button' name='CodingHorror' value='CodingHorror' onClick="Google('CodingHorror')" />
<br />
<br />
</div>
<div id="dialog" class="simplemodal-close" style="display: none">
<em>Going to Google</em>
<hr />
<ul>
<li>No guarantee is made that this will work.</li>
<li>We take no responsibility for the consequences of this action.</li>
</ul>
</div>
<script type='text/javascript' src='js/jquery.js'></script>
<script type='text/javascript' src='js/jquery.simplemodal.js'></script>
<script>
function Google(s) {
$.modal($('#dialog'),{
onClose: function (dialog) {
window.location='http://www.google.co.uk?as_q='+s;
}}
);
}
</script>
</body>
</html>

How to stop reload of page after submit

I have a page with a form that is being used to ask a question. When the submit button is clicked, it does the follow, determines if the user checked the right box, displays the answer and explanation, and disables the checkboxes and submit button to prevent re-answering the question.
My issue is that when the user clicks the submit button the answers, and the disabling appear for only a split second before the page reloads. How do I stop this, I want the user to see if they are correct and not be able to change their answers. When I run it in Dreamweaver where I am building the pages, it runs fine in live view.

</script>
As of right now your code is not "determining if the user checked the right box, displaying the answer and explanation" as you explained but that is OK and easy to implement after. Here is the answer to your question.
You should replace your id="ex3" button with the anchor tag code provided below (anchor tag is for simplicity but you can use another element to call the function with a click event). Either way, you do not need to submit a form as you are not posting information according to your requested behavior.
<a id="ex3" href="javascript:disablefields()">submit</a>
Update your function with this:
function disablefields() {
{
document.getElementById('check1').disabled = 'disabled';
document.getElementById('check2').disabled = 'disabled';
document.getElementById('check3').disabled = 'disabled';
document.getElementById('check4').disabled = 'disabled';
document.getElementById('ex3').disabled = 'disabled';
document.getElementById('ex3').innerHTML = 'Answers Submitted';
}
}
You will then get the exact behavior requested in your question minus the validation process that you described. It is easy to add that to this solution with a conditional statement or calling a validation function and then if valid calling the disablefields function.
function formVal() {
{
//put all of your validation requirements here and see if
var isValid = [check form function here]
if(isValid){
disablefields();
}else {
//send a message to user to correct fields and do not disable
}
<a id="ex3" href="javascript:formVal()">submit</a>
If you do choose to submit the information to the server at some later date simply make an AJAX call sending the form information after your disablefields call.
Fixed it by calling both function from the onClick and changing the type to button.
<input type="button" value="Submit" id="ex3" onclick="show_all(); disablefields();" >

uncaught type error: undefined is not a function

Im making a simple form with Telerik Appbuilder HTML5 + javascript that takes a users input and logs it to the console when they click the submit button.
ClientClass.js:

this.password = "Password",
this.printUsername = function() {
this.username=$("#Username").val()
console.log(this.username);
};
};

}

It says in the console:
uncaught type error: undefined is not a function.
Then it says it is at index.html#views/home.html:1 and when I click that and it takes me to sources panel of the debugger. And it says the source is index.html and it says:
(function() {with (this[2]) {with (this[1]) {with (this[0]) {return function(event) {printUsername() }; }}}})
Does anyone see any issues with my html or javascript? Or the way I import the script? Thanks
you are declaring your client as an object, not as a "class". So using new on your object doesn't make quite sense.
So it's up to you or you keep your object and simply remove:
var client = new client();
or you use a class
function Client(){}

Countdown script not starting countdown

Can someone please tell me why the countdown function is not working properly (the countdown is not starting in the div with the I.D. "countdown"). Probably something real simple, but Javascript isn't my forte. This is the countdown plugin I am using: http://keith-wood.name/countdown.html

<script type="text/javascript" src="js/jquery.countdown.js"></script>
</head>
<body>
<a name="top"></a>
<div id="container">
<div id="content">
<div class="center">

<div></div>
</center>
</div>
<script type="text/javascript">
$(function() {
$('#countdown').countdown({
until: '14min+20sec',
format: 'MS',
layout: '{mnn}min ' + '{snn}sec ',
onExpiry: function() {
$(".hidden").css("display", "block");
}
});
});
</script>
<div class="time_box">
<h3 class="italic">When The Clock Hits Zero ... </h3>
<h4 class="hasCountdown" id="countdown">14min 20sec </h4>
</div>
<form name="signupFrm" id="signupFrm" action="#" method="post" class="hidden">
<div>
<div class="yellow_red">
<h1></h1>
</div>
<div class="center">
<a href="https://www.testing.com" class="btn_buy_now">

<input name="submit" value="submit" type="hidden">
<p class="mb_5"> </p>
</div>
</form>
<div class="fnote justify">
</div>
</div>
<div id="footer">
</div>
</div>
</body>
</html>
You should put the $(function () ...) script into the <head> tag of your HTML page. This way, the countdown will be initiated once the DOM has fully loaded.
I think that the problem is that you are missing the reference to the "jQuery Countdown CSS". In the usage instructions of the plugin it says:
Download and include the jQuery Countdown CSS and JavaScript in the
head section of your page. #import
"jquery.countdown.css";
But you can still make it work without the "jQuery Countdown CSS" if you remove the class attribute from the <h4> element with the id "countdown", like this:
<div class="time_box">
<h3 class="italic">When The Clock Hits Zero ... </h3>
<h4 id="countdown">14min 20sec </h4>
</div>
JSFiddle Example
The countdown plugin uses the class hasCountdown to test whether the countdown has already been instantiated, so you should use a different class name.
From jquery.countdown.js:
/* Class name added to elements to indicate already configured with countdown.*/
markerClassName: 'hasCountdown'

Dojo Dijit TimeTextBox Not Working When Pulled Into Page With AJAX

I have one main page with menu buttons. When clicked, they change the main "content" area with AJAX. In the header of this page I have all of the appropriate Dojo references.
I know the AJAX works because i have successfully pulled in and displayed data in the content area, and I know the Dojo Dijit TimeTextBox works because I have successfully displayed it before I make any calls with AJAX.
When I try to make a call with AJAX and pull in new input fields for the TimeTextBox widget, they display only as regular text boxes, and seem to ignore the fact that I have them set to be the TimeTextBox.
Can anyone tell me how to fix this issue?

^^That is the data being pulled in
Are the css files for those dijits pulled up? You might want to require them at the beginning (when the page loads) which get cached and will be used when the dijits are pulled via AJAX.
EDIT: Not sure but can suggest you try to add startup() call for the widget you created.
it apears to me like you are forgoetting to call:
dojo.parser.parse();
after setting the content i your ajax call. it should look like this:
function getPage(page)
{
$.ajax({
url: "admin"+page+".php",
type: "POST",
cache: false,
success: function (html) {
$('#content').html(html);
dojo.parser.parse();
$('#content').fadeIn('slow');
}
});
}
the dojo parser will not execute by itself, it is too resourses expensive to do that, so each time the content changes so you add a dijit you moust call dojo.parser.parse();

Faking an AJAX-y login box

I've been asked to prototype a login box for a project, with the goal of emulating how an AJAX-y login box would.
Idea is:
User types in username/password (any; again, this isn't hooked up to any DBs or anything yet) and hits enter
Throbber shows up for 3 seconds.
User info appears.
I've tried doing this with jQuery as per the below; anyone have an idea what I'm doing wrong? Many thanks!

<p id="logged-in" style="display: none;"><strong>The Admin</strong><br />
Administrator
</p>
</div>
</div>
</div>
<div id="content"></div>
</div>
</body>
</html>
The delay() only affects the queue for #throbber (and 300 is 0.3 second).
Instead, use the callback of .hide() to show #logged-in after #throbber has been hidden:
jQuery('#login-form').submit(function() {
jQuery('#login-form > *').hide();
jQuery('#throbber').show().delay(3000).hide(function() {
jQuery('#logged-in').show();
});
return false;
});
(demo)
You need to change delay to 3000, make the whole login-form hide rather than just the child elements, and this part is key... put the logged in showing code inside a callback function to be executed after the throbber is hidden... like this:
jQuery('#login-form').submit(function(){
jQuery('#login-form').hide();
jQuery('#throbber').show().delay(3000).hide(function(){
jQuery('#logged-in').show();
});
return false;
});
Try this: http://jsfiddle.net/dbhCe/
jQuery(document).ready(function(){
jQuery('#login-form').submit(function(){
jQuery('#login-form').hide();
jQuery('#throbber').show();
window.setTimeout( function() {
jQuery("#throbber").hide();
jQuery('#logged-in').show();
}, 3000);
return false;
});
});
