I am using bootstrap-dropdown to generate a Dropdown menu.
I would like to disable some default behaviour by using jQuery.off.
1) how can I disable the disappear of Dropdown menu on a specific element and not all elements?
2) how can I disable the appearing of menu on a specific element and not all elements?
By using the following code I reach my goal by I would like to apply this behaviour on a specific element and not on all the document.
$('html').off('click.dropdown'); // it disable the disappear of Dropdown menu.
$('body').off('click.dropdown'); // it disable the appearing of Dropdown menu.
// Why this differance?
.
This is the jsfiddle link to test the code.
Thanks to #merv for making the jsfiddle.
You can only use the off() method to disable a binding on a specific element that already has a binding. In pointing out $('html').off(), I was merely trying to demonstrate that the only binding which auto-closes dropdown menus is attached there.
Otherwise, you can add a new binding to elements in dropdown menus to stop the click event from bubbling up to the html element:
$('.dropdown-menu').on('click.dropdown', function(e) {e.stopPropagation()})
JSFiddle
$(".disabled-link").click(function(event) {
event.preventDefault();
});
add the "disabled-link" class to any dropdown you don't want to work

Using jQuery UI Accordion to create dropdowns for a filter list.
http://89.151.89.43/uk/trade-essentials-column-radiators-1.html#usestorage
Inside the Header there is also a clear button (You need to select an option for it to appear) The CMS is generating this automatically, unfortunately it doesn't function because it's inside the H4 tag surrounding it.
You will see an onclick function on the clear-button, I would like to keep the button where it is but just allow it to function.
To recreate:
Go to the above link
Select an option on the left
Clear button should appear
Try click the 'Clear' button
The accordion should then close
What I want:
The function contained in the 'onclick' to clear all checkboxes that are under that header
Without seeing the source code, I can't give you an exact answer, but in general you want to do something like this:
$("#clear-button").click(function(event){
event.stopPropagation();
event.preventDefault();
log("clicked!");
});
Looking at your example page, there seems to be a lot code missing.
I would suggest something like:
$(".clear-button").on("click", function(event) {
event.preventDefault();
$(this).parent().parent().find(":checked").prop("checked", false);
});
When the button is clicked, after being generated dynamically, you will want to find the input elements that are within the parent div element. Since the button is within the h4, you have to find that parent div.
An example, not working, since I cannot find the OnFilter() function code. You could assign the click callback when the button is added instead of using the .on().

I'm trying to nest a dropdown inside an element which already has a click event bound to it.
I have disabled bubbling on the dropdown and created a clickhandler to trigger it manually by calling $(...).dropdown()
When I try to trigger a dropdown the dropdown box requires two clicks at a minimum before it begins to work.
When you use $(...).dropdown('toggle') it works on the first click but after that the functionality is broken.
Here is a JSFiddle that exactly mimics my structure.
JSFiddle
Just add this function in your script it's work fine
$(document).ready(function() {
$(".dropdown-toggle").dropdown();
});

All Bootstrap Dropdown menu examples show the items having an link like:
<li>a</li>
How can I make a Bootstrap dropdown menu where choosing an item triggers a javascript method?
(If it makes a difference, the menu items will also be added to the menu using javascript/jquery initially)
Is this just a matter of adding a click function to each <li>? Or does Bootstrap provide special handling for its dropdown items?
If I add a click function, do I still need each item to also have the <a href="#"> tag around the text?
Looks like the answer is:
Bootstrap does not supply any special handling for clicks on its
dropdown menu items; and
I could add a click function to each item in the list; or
I could use event delegation to add the click function to the list
itself, and it will be triggered on each child's click

I have a scenario where a dropdown launcher menu should appear on every row in a list page. I have tweaked the code here.
I want the popover (open) behavior be restricted for the click on the particular launcher-icon, though close action is perfect here.
the problem is when any icon is clicked, it shows all menus. My page has rows inflated from a database and every row has three such launcher icons.
I guess this block of code needs some tweaks:
// Click event handler to toggle dropdown
$(".button").click(function(event){
event.stopPropagation();
// How can I call toggle for the specific div element?
$(".app-launcher").toggle();
});
How can it be done?
You need to traverse the DOM to find the .app-launcher instance which is related to the clicked .button element, to do that use closest() and find(), like this:
$(".button").click(function(event){
event.stopPropagation();
$(this).closest('.launcher').find(".app-launcher").toggle();
});
Updated CodePen
I would also suggest looking in to using a single instance of .app-launcher and moving it around the DOM as required to DRY up your HTML code.
I have a dropdown that loads the data and there is a Add button and when the add button is being triggered it will be disabled. It works in the first load, but when the dropdown is onchange the disabled button will be false or not disabled. So how can I still disable the button when the dropdown is being changed. I have also a input field to store the values of the button that has been clicked. Check http://jsfiddle.net/leonardeveloper/qy9u5/.
Problem is, you are appending a new element every time your <select> is changed. You need to be showing and hiding the same respective table each time. You can use jQuery to create those tables using the <option>s. Like so:
$("#loads option").each(function(){
thisNumber = this.value;
$("#displays").append("<table data-table="+thisNumber+"><tr><td>"+thisNumber+"</td><td>"+thisNumber+"</td><td><button class='materialId' value='"+thisNumber+"'>Add</button></td></tr></table>");
$("#displays table").hide();
});
We append the tables (2 in this case) to #displays, and then hide them. When we change the <select> now, we hide all tables, and show the one we selected, I've used data-table for this but there are many ways to target your specific table.
$(document).on("change","#loads", function(){
$("#displays table").hide();
$("#displays table[data-table="+this.value+"]").show();
});
JSFiddle
Try to bind click event also.
Demo
$(document).on("change click","#loads",...
