I have a mobile app using mostly JQuery Mobile. I have an ajax function using POST and I can't seem to get anything to effect the UI when I fire the click event. I tried setting
$('#cover').show();
as the very first thing in the function then I do some basic things like document.getElementById('user') etc to set some variables and check input, but as long as the ajax function is there it won't show the div or even the spinner from JQ Mobile. Unless I debug and step through the code then the spinner and div show up fine. I tried setTimeout and putting it in the beforeSend area of the ajax call. Everything works fine otherwise. It seemed to work a little better with GET I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it or not.
$.ajax({
cache: false,
type: "POST",
async: false,
url: urlString,
data: jsonstring,
contentType: "application/json",
dataType: "json",
success: function (data) {
JSONobj = JSON.parse(data);
},
beforeSend: function(xhr){
//console.log('BeforeSend');
},
complete: function (xhr) {
//console.log('Complete');
},
error: function (xhr, status, error) {
console.log(error);
}
});
You could use the Ajax Global handlers to handle this:
$(document).
.ajaxStart(function(){
$('#cover').show();
})
.ajaxStop(function(){
$('#cover').hide();
});
This way you don't have to worry about showing/hiding the overlay on individual Ajax calls.
Try this
$("#someButton").click(function(e){
e.preventDefault() //if you want to prevent default action
$('#cover').fadeIn(100,function(){
$.ajax({
url: "someurl",
data: "Somedata",
contentType: "application/json",
dataType: "json",
},
success: function (data) {
JSONobj = JSON.parse(data);
$('#cover').fadeOut(100);
},
complete: function (xhr) {
$('#cover').fadeOut(100);
}
});
});
});

I am now in javascript, I am trying to display a indictor icon when ajax starts and hide it when it finishes, below is my code:
CSS:
div.ajax-progress {
//some setting and url
}
<body>
<div class="ajax-progress"></div>
</body>
Javascript:
$('#fileToUpload').on('change', function(e) {
var file = e.target.files[0];
var formData = new FormData($('form')[0]);
imageId = cornerstoneWADOImageLoader.fileManager.add(file);
$.ajax({
url: 'loadfile.php',
type: 'POST',
data: formData,
async: false,
dataType: 'json',
timeout : 60000,
beforeSend :function(){
$(".ajax-progress").show();
},
success: function (html) {}
$(".ajax-progress").hide();
//doing something}
});
});
but nothing happens, any idea? appreciated.
Maybe if you put $(".ajax-progress").show(); before the call of ajax $.ajax({}); and them hide it in the succes.
I don't know if that's the same to what you have in your code but you commented out the success closing bracket }
you can also use console.log() or alert() to see what's going on in your code.
Try rewriting your ajax as below:
$.ajax({
url: 'loadfile.php',
type: 'POST',
data: formData,
async: false,
dataType: 'json',
timeout : 60000,
beforeSend :function(){
//do something
},
success: function (html) {
//doing something
}
});
$(document).ajaxStart(function() {
$(".ajax-progress").show();
});
$(document).ajaxStop(function() {
$(".ajax-progress").hide();
});
This will show and hide $(".ajax-progress") in all your ajax requests within the application.
from an Ajax call that was build up like this:
function GetData() {
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "#Model.RouteForAjaxLastValue",//"/RCharts/AjaxMethod",//
data: "{Id: " + lastID+ "}",
contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",
dataType: "json",
success: function (response) {
},
failure: function (response) {
alert(response.responseText);
},
error: function (response) {
alert(response.responseText);
}
})
I sometimes get responses like this:
I can see that this is meant to be displayed as a webpage since its an entire page html formatted.
But is there a way to display that directly as a new page mabye?
It cuts of the rest of the message in the alert before I can even get to read what the error may be...
Use $("html").html(response.responseText); inside your success function .
success : function(response){
$("html").html(response.responseText);
}
You should probably use console.log()
but this should append it to the body:
$('body').append(response.responseText);
I am using angular datatables and I have some code that looks like this:
this.dtOptions = DTOptionsBuilder.newOptions()
.withOption('ajax', {
type: 'POST',
contentType: 'application/json',
processData: false,
beforeSend: function(xhr, settings) {
...
},
data: function(data) {
...
}
})
.withDataProp('data')
.withOption('processing', true)
.withOption('serverSide', true);
That all works properly and the table on the page is populated with data when the ajax call returns. All I want to do now is detect when that ajax call completes. I have tried to use this right below beforeSend:
success: function(data, textStatus, jqXHR, fnCallback) {
console.log(data);
}
That actually prints the returned data to the console, but when I add that success callback the table on the page never populates with the data. So how can I have a callback fire when the ajax is done and still have my table on the page populate with data like it normally does?
dataTables is using the ajax success callback internally, so you break things up if you override that. However, dataTables introduces its own dataSrc callback which is fired from within dataTables success handler to give you the upportunity to manipulate the response before any data is inserted :
this.dtOptions = DTOptionsBuilder.newOptions()
.withOption('ajax', {
dataSrc: function(json) {
//success!
console.log(json);
return json
},
type: 'POST',
contentType: 'application/json',
processData: false,
....
see demo -> http://plnkr.co/edit/94EWyDanIawCJJgyagiy?p=preview
As you may see in the demo, you also have an alternative in the ajax complete callback :
ajax : {
complete: function(jqXHR, textStatus) {
console.log(jqXHR.responseText)
}
..
}
I am having trouble getting an ajax GET request (or any request for that matter) to retrieve the response. I am simply trying to return the response in an alert event:
<script>
$(document).ready(function() {
$('#test').click(function() {
$.ajax ({
type: 'Get',
url: 'https://crm.zoho.com/crm/private/json/Potentials/searchRecords?authtoken=XXX&scope=crmapi&criteria=(((Potential Email:test#email.com))&selectColumns=Potentials(Potential Name)&fromIndex=1&toIndex=1',
dataType: 'json',
success: function(data) {
alert(data);
}
});
});
});
</script>
I can get this and other similar post requests to work by taking away the function in the success option and editing the code like this:
<script>
$(document).ready(function() {
$('#test').click(function() {
$.ajax ({
type: 'Get',
url: 'https://crm.zoho.com/crm/private/json/Potentials/searchRecords?authtoken=XXXX&scope=crmapi&criteria=(((Potential Email:test#email.com))&selectColumns=Potentials(Potential Name)&fromIndex=1&toIndex=1',
dataType: 'json',
success: alert('success')
});
});
});
</script>
Why is this? And more importantly, how can I retrieve the response data and transfer it to an alert message? Any help is appreciated!
** Update:
Upon reading the first two users' responses on this question, this is what I have:
<script>
$(document).ready(function() {
$('#test').click(function() {
$.ajax ({
type: 'GET',
url: 'https://crm.zoho.com/crm/private/json/Potentials/searchRecords?authtoken=418431ea64141079860d96c85ee41916&scope=crmapi&criteria=(((Potential%20Email:test#email.com))&selectColumns=Potentials(Potential%20Name)&fromIndex=1&toIndex=1',
dataType: 'json',
success: function(data) {
alert(JSON.stringify(data));
},
error: function(data) {
alert(JSON.stringify(data));
}
});
});
});
</script>
I am able to get the error response, so I can confirm there is some kind of error. I also want to point out that I am making the request from a different domain (not crm.zoho.com) so should I be using jsonp? If so, how would I alter the code?
When you have
success: alert('success')
you do NOT have a successful request, you are actually executing this function at the start of AJAX method. The success parameter requires a pointer to a function, and when you use alert('success') you are executing a function instead of providing a pointer to it.
First thing that you need to try is to update type to GET instead of Get:
$.ajax ({
type: 'GET',
Try using the .done() function as follows:
<script>
$(document).ready(function() {
$('#test').click(function() {
$.ajax ({
type: 'Get',
url: 'yourUrl',
dataType: 'json',
}
}).done(function(result) {alert(data);}) //try adding:
.error(function(jqXHR, textStatus, errorThrown) {
console.log(textStatus, errorThrown);})
});
});
the error function will also give you some information in your console as to the status of your request.
I'm making an attempt at a RESTful application but my $.ajax function stops in the middle of its execution.
function addEntry()
{
$.ajax({
type: 'POST',
contentType: 'application/json',
url: passAPI,
dataType: "json",
data: dataToJSON(),
success: hideform
})
}
function hideform()
{
$('#form').hide();
}
The data is put correctly in the database but the form doesn't get hidden. Anyone know why that happens ?
I tried setting up an error statement that didn't return anything. When I tried again it worked.
I think I fixed some dumb syntax error.
Sorry !
Given there are no errors. Does this work? I added the function()
function addEntry()
{
$.ajax({
type: 'POST',
contentType: 'application/json',
url: passAPI,
dataType: "json",
data: dataToJSON(),
success: function() {
hideform();
}
})
}
function hideform()
{
$('#form').hide();
}
making an assumption that your not using an event.preventDefault() if that's the case the ajax call will get cut off as the page reloads to submit the form using its default handlers.
if you already have an
event.preventDefault();
then ignore me ha.
