XMLHttpRequest is working with IE8 but not with google chrome - javascript

Following code is working fine with IE8 but is not working with google chrome. What i need to add/modify in the code to make it work with chrome also. I have heard of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Same_origin_policy and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross-origin_resource_sharing.
function clickMe()
{
var xmlHttp = null;
var Url = "http://www.w3schools.com/ajax/gethint.asp?q=u";
//var Url = "file:///D:/Durgesh/test.html";
xmlHttp = new XMLHttpRequest();
xmlHttp.onreadystatechange = function()
{
if ( xmlHttp.readyState == 4 )
{
alert("status Code: " + xmlHttp.status);
if ( xmlHttp.responseText == "Not found" )
{
alert("Not Found");
}
else
{
alert(xmlHttp.responseText);
}
}
}
xmlHttp.open( "GET", Url, true );
xmlHttp.setRequestHeader('Access-Control-Allow-Origin', '*');
xmlHttp.send( null );
}

Access-Control-Allow-Origin must be server side. ;)

how to fix startWith not working in chrome

I am checking some date whether available or not from DB using Ajax using below my code,
var url = "ValidateDateFromDB.jsp?cdate="+selecteddate.value;
if (window.XMLHttpRequest)
req = new XMLHttpRequest();
else if (window.ActiveXObject)
req = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
req.open("GET", url, true);
req.onreadystatechange =callback;
req.send(null);
function callback()
{
if (req.readyState == 4)
{
if (req.status == 200)
{
var message = req.responseText;
alert(message);
if(message.startsWith("Available"))
{
alert("Availabe");
}
else
{
alert("Not Availabe");
}
}
}
}
I am getting output like below image,
It is working fine in firefox but not working in chrome.I checked out that startsWith works only chrome above 40 version.So to fix this i used == operation like below,
if(message=="Available")
{
alert("Availabe");
}
else
{
alert("Not Availabe");
}
But this code always goes to else part that i know why.
someone tell me how to fix this?

check this URL 1st .
ERROR 404 Says. The requested Http request is not present or wrong.
Please check your "complaintHandler" It might be complaintHandler.jsp , kind of...

AJAX function( ) part alone not working

After function() it is not working, i don't know why. If I put an alert before that statement it's working but after that statement it isn't working.
<script>
function new_order() {
var xmlhttp;
if (window.XMLHttpRequest) {
xmlhttp = new XMLHttpRequest();
}
alert("asdasd");
xmlhttp.onreadystatechange = function () {
if (xmlhttp.readyState == 4 && xmlhttp.status == 200) {
document.getElementById("order_id").innerHTML = xmlhttp.responseText;
}
}
xmlhttp.open("POST", "item_sort.php?sort=" + str, true);
xmlhttp.send();
}
</script>
3 things you can check
If an element corresponding to id order_id exists on the page
if the str is not null or not defined
If you are using older IE versions IE5 or 6 you need to add the
following in your code.
xmlhttp = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
Also you need to use the following way if you want to do POST ajax call.
xmlhttp.open("POST", "item_sort.php", true);
xmlhttp.setRequestHeader("Content-type","application/x-www-form-urlencoded");
xmlhttp.send("sort=" + str);

xmlHttpRequest.send(Params) not working in tomcat 7

I am trying to send some parameters through xmlHttpRequest.send(params) written in a JS file to my servlet where I try to get the parameters by req.getParameter("some_Parameter"); it returns null on the servlet. though if i send the parameters by appending them in url it works fine. but when the url will be large it will break the code. so please someone help me out.
Thanks in advance.
function doHttpPost(theFormName, completeActivity)
{
var xmlhttp = new ActiveXObject("MSXML2.XMLHTTP");
var xmlMessage = buildPOST(theFormName, completeActivity);
var responseTxt;
try {
xmlhttp.Open(document.forms[theFormName].method, document.forms[theFormName].action+'?'+xmlMessage, false);
xmlhttp.onreadystatechange=function() {
if (xmlhttp.readyState==4) {
responseTxt = xmlhttp.responseText;
}
}
xmlhttp.setRequestHeader("Content-Type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded");
enableDisableLinks(true);

xmlhttp.Send();

alert("Post to server failed");
}
} catch (e) {
responseTxt = "Exception while posting form data: Error No: " + e.number + ", Message: " + e.description;
}
resetPointer();
enableDisableLinks(false);
var expectedTxt = "Form Data had been successfully posted to the database."
if(responseTxt.toString() == expectedTxt.toString()) {
// MNP: New requirement from Jeanne, should not refresh CM page, commenting it off for now

return true;
} else {
alert (responseTxt);
}
return false;
}
BUGS
//IE only - shooting yourself in the
// Not all IE versions use ActiveX!
var xmlhttp = new ActiveXObject("MSXML2.XMLHTTP"); foot.
//JavaScript case sensitive, open !== Open
xmlhttp.Open(document.fo...
//JavaScript case sensitive, send !== Send
xmlhttp.Send();
//JavaScript case sensitive, status !== Status
xmlhttp.Status
AND if you are using synchronous, it does not call the onreadystatechange.
If you are using POST, the value needs to be in send("valuestosendup") not on the querystring.
This code shows why you should really use a framework to make Ajax calls and to not roll your own.

I am getting xmlhttp.readyState = 4 xmlhttp.status = 0 xmlhttp.responseText = ""
plz tell me where am doing mistake
Your doing a cross domain request.
You are only allowed to do xmlhttp requests to the same host.
I can't read any of that but Chrome has a JavaScript console that will probably tell you what you're doing wrong.
It's a cross-domain issue, to resolve it the server response header should contain "access-control-allow-origin"
If your server is coded in PHP, the header should be like the following example:
<?php
header('Content-type: text/html');
header('Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *');
$uri = 'http'. ($_SERVER['HTTPS'] ? 's' : null) .'://'. $_SERVER['HTTP_HOST'] . $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'];
echo('<p>This information has come from ' . $uri . '</p>');
?>
