I have a html
index.html:
<html>
<head>
<title>Facebook</title>
<script type="text/javascript" src="../xdata/js/jquery.js"></script>
</head>
<body>
Tasks (<span id="tasks">0</span>)
Messages (<span id="messages">0</span>)
Notifications (<span id="notifications">0</span>)
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function() {
var pagetitle = document.title;
document.title = pagetitle+' NEW NOTIFICATON';
});
</script>
</body>
</html>
and a xml file
page.xml:
<?xml version="1.0" ?>
<page tasks="1" messages="3" notifications="3"/>
How do i make that every 5 seconds index.html to read page.xml and modify the title like in faceboook ("(1) Facebook") and also modify tasks, messages, notifications ...
I'm having problems at reading the xml. If anyone can help me?
PS - I prefer jQuery ... but JavaScript works as well
The following was done in jquery, though you have a slight error with your xml file that lead to parsing issues.
Assuming your xml file is like this:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<data>
<page tasks="1" messages="3" notifications="3"/>
</data>
The following code will modify the page accordingly, using jquery of course:
$(document).ready(function() {
function get_info() {
$.ajax({
type: "GET",
url: "page.xml",
dataType: "xml",
cache: false,
complete: function(doc) {
var tasks = $(doc.responseText).find("page").attr("tasks");
var msgs = $(doc.responseText).find("page").attr("messages");
var notes = $(doc.responseText).find("page").attr("notifications");
if (tasks != $('#tasks').text() ||
msgs != $('#messages').text() ||
notes != $('#notifications').text()) {
document.title = "Facebook" + ' NEW NOTIFICATON';
}
$('#tasks').text(tasks);
$('#messages').text(msgs);
$('#notifications').text(notes);
}
});
}
setInterval(function() {
get_info();
}, 5000);
});
I spent some time developing this, and I know for a fact it works.
var tid = setTimeout(function_name, 5000);
function function_name() {
// do some stuff...
tid = setTimeout(function_name, 5000); // repeat
}
function abortTimer() { // to stop the timer
clearTimeout(tid);
}
Put your logic inside of a setTimeout method call:
setTimeout(function(){
alert('I am displayed after 3 seconds!');
}, 3000);
Try this:
(document).ready(function() {
function getPage() {
var page= $.ajax({
type: "GET",
url: "page.xml",
dataType: "xml",
async : false,
}).responseXML;
$(page).find('page').each(function(){
var tasks = $(this).attr("tasks");
var msgs = $(this).attr("messages");
var notes = $(this).attr("notifications");
$('#tasks').html(tasks);
$('#messages').html(msgs);
$('#notifications').html(notes);
});
}
});
setInterval(getPage,5000);

I'm using an Ajax for partial loading my website. Content of GET data has images but these images appear after few seconds on page. Image size is about 20kB, so this is not a bottleneck.
I'm using php page which returns some content. This page loads in a while with images immediately but with ajax it loads text, but images after few seconds. How can I achieve quick load?
I'm using this function:
function loadMainEvents(resultDiv, cat, limit){
var spinner = new Spinner().spin(mainPageEvents);
$.ajax({
url: "/getMainPageEvents.php?category=" + cat + "&limit=" + limit,
type: "GET",
success: function(data){
resultDiv.innerHTML = data;
spinner.stop();
}
});
};
EDIT:
I created a test.php which is doing same thing
<html>
<head>
<script src='https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.4/jquery.min.js' type="text/javascript"></script>
</head>
<body>
<div id="div" style="float:left;">wait</div>
<div id="div2">wait</div>
<script>
$(function () {
$.ajax({
url: "/getMainPageEvents.php?category=&limit=10&from=29.11.2015&to=29.11.2015&pno=1",
type: "GET",
success: function (data) {
$("#div").html(data).on('load', function () {
$(this).fadeIn(250);
});
}
});
$.ajax({
url: "/getMainPageEvents.php?category=&limit=10&from=29.11.2015&to=29.11.2015&pno=1",
type: "GET",
success: function (data) {
$("#div2").html(data).on('load', function () {
$(this).fadeIn(250);
});
}
});
});
</script>
</body>
getMainPageEvents.php returns only web content.
Network from developer tools:
You may want to try something like this in the success function. Hide the result div first and foremost, then after the data is loaded, show the div.
$(resultDiv).html(data).promise().done(function(){
spinner.stop();
$(this).fadeIn(250);
});
Possible second solution
$(resultDiv).html(data).on('load', function(){
spinner.stop();
$(this).fadeIn(250);
});
I'm trying to use setInterval to execute the php script update.php every 10 seconds and refresh div id = verification. For some reason setInterval is preventing the script from functioning. Any suggestions on where to place\change setInterval would be appreciate as I'm stumped (sorry entry level javascript user here). For clarity I omitted all the non-relevant details, such as vars.
<div id="verification"></div>
<script id="verification" language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
$(function() {
$.ajax({
url: 'update.php', //php
data: "", //the data "caller=name1&&callee=name2"
dataType: 'json', //data format
success: function(data) //on receive of reply
{
var foobar = data[2]; //foobar
$('#verification').html("(<b>" + foobar + "</b>)"); //output to html
}
});
});
setInterval(10000); //every 5 secs
</script>
Suggestions/Steps/Bugs:
Create a separate function to perform ajax request
Call this function on page load to run it when page is loaded
Use setInterval() to call the function every n seconds
id should always be unique. You're now using verification as if for <div> and <script>
You can remove id and language attributes of <script>. Those are not required.
Code:
function update() {
$.ajax({
url: 'update.php', //php
data: "", //the data "caller=name1&&callee=name2"
dataType: 'json', //data format
success: function (data) {
//on receive of reply
var foobar = data[2]; //foobar
$('#verification').html("(<b>" + foobar + "</b>)"); //output to html
}
});
}
$(document).ready(update); // Call on page load
// ^^^^^^
setInterval(update, 10000); //every 10 secs
// ^^^^^^
setInterval() takes a function (that it should execute) as it's first argument.
Try this:
setInterval(function(){
$.ajax({
url: 'update.php', //php
data: "", //the data "caller=name1&&callee=name2"
dataType: 'json', //data format
success: function(data) //on receive of reply
{
var foobar = data[2]; //foobar
$('#verification').html("(<b>"+foobar+"</b>)"); //output to html
}
});
}, 10000);
you are using setInterval in a wrong way - you can read about it here:
http://www.w3schools.com/js/js_timing.asp
Also please notice that AJAX calls are asynchronous - when program is going forward it doesn't mean that previous AJAX call has ended. You can "wait" for AJAX completition using some jQuery mechanisms like binding ajaxComplete or using when
You are missing the function block:
setInterval(function() {
// to do
}, 5000);
My suggestion is to go for setTimeout as you are running ajax it is not certain that it would complete within 5 seconds. In case if you wana go for it:
var dispatchUpdates = function() {
setTimeout(pullUpdates, 5000);
};
var pullUpdates = function() {
$.ajax({
url: 'update.php',
data: "",
dataType: 'json',
success: function(data) {
var foobar = data[2];
$('#verification').html("(<b>" + foobar + "</b>)");
dispatchUpdates(); // next updates
},
error: function() {
dispatchUpdates(); // retry
}
});
};
$(dispatchUpdates); //page load
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.9.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
I have a script like this.
The jQuery ajax loads all my files with no issues.
The ajax_load_books.php file have lot of css and js(inline edit, sliders etc.) files in it.
The problem is:
How to load all the files before the success function so that the user can see the loader_div message untill all the files are loaded.
In other words - Load all the js/css files and proceed with the success function.
Even I have checked with .load() function. Could someone redefine the below code .
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function () {
$(".form-control").change(function () {
var id = $(this).val();
var dataString = 'id=' + id;
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "ajax_load_books.php",
data: dataString,
cache: false,
beforeSend: function () {
$("#loader_div").show();
},
success: function (html) {
$("#loader_div").hide();
$("#txtHint").html(html);
}
});
});
});
</script>
Thanks,
Kimz
For the css files, you can find them using jQuery.parseHTML() function, but the <script> will be stripped with this so instead we would have to use regex for the <script> tags.
Try:
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function () {
$(".form-control").change(function () {
var id = $(this).val();
var dataString = 'id=' + id;
$("#loader_div").show();
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "ajax_load_books.php",
data: dataString,
cache: false,
beforeSend: function () {
//parsing <link>
var $str = $('<output>');
//loading html into fake tag
$str.load("ajax_load_books.php");
//now $str includes all your page code
temp = $.parseHTML(str);
$.each(temp, function (i, el) {
//finding the <link> tag
if (el.nodeName == 'LINK') {
//appending it to the <head> tag
$('head').append("<link rel='stylesheet' href='" + el.getAttribute('href') + "'>");
}
});
//for script we will use regex
var pattern = /<script[^>]+?>.*?<\/script>/gi;
var matches = str.match(pattern);
var scripts = "";
for (var i in matches) {
scripts += matches[i];
}
//appending script tag to <head>
$('head').append(scripts);
},
success: function (html) {
$("#loader_div").hide();
$("#txtHint").html(html);
}
});
});
});
</script>
Demo
There is a drawback with this, your stylesheets and script code will repeat. If the above code causes issue running because of the repetition, you should place the code of beforeSend() before the AJAX and have a parameter sent from your AJAX function indicating that when an AJAX is called with this parameter, to execute all the HTML except the stylesheets and js scripts.
I have two files one php and one html, the html file serves as the users interface where the users input their queries, the php files serves as the process or where the event will happen then it will return them to the html file for the output. According to my friend the best way to link the two is using jquery or ajax which I'm not quite sure. I tried to link them using this code but it didn't work if you can help me find my mistake I would gladly appreciate it.
HTML File
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.10.1.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function () {
$('#setVal').on('click', function () {
var form = $('.buildaddress').not('#formatted_address');
var vals = form.map(function () {
var value = $.trim(this.value);
return value ? value : undefined;
}).get();
$('#formatted_address').val(vals.join(', '));
</script>
when I added this part the link didn't work
<script>
$('#Compare').click(function(e) {
e.preventDefault();
var address = $('#address').val();
var formatted_address = $('#formatted_address').val();
console.log(address);
console.log(formatted_address);
$.ajax({
type: 'POST',
url: 'Corrections.php',
data: {
var1: address,
var2: formatted_address
},
success: function(data) {
document.getElementById('cor').value = data;
}
});
});
});
</script>
PHP file
<?php
$str1 = $_POST['var1'];
$str2 = $_POST['var2'];
$tempArr;
$var2;
$ctr=0;
echo "Input: $str1\n";
echo "Output: $str2\n";
?>
You have an extra }); in your script. Just remove the extra }); in your second script, your code will work
<script>
$('#Compare').click(function(e) {
e.preventDefault();
var address = $('#address').val();
var formatted_address = $('#formatted_address').val();
console.log(address);
console.log(formatted_address);
$.ajax({
type: 'POST',
url: 'Corrections.php',
data: {
var1: address,
var2: formatted_address
},
success: function(data) {
document.getElementById('cor').value = data;
}
});
});
//}); should be removed
</script>
I'm using jQuery AJAX to get an array from a PHP file which is getting data from a MySQL database. I'm now trying to use that array outside my ajax call. Specifically I'm loading multiple videoIDs for YT.Player but I'm stumbling on getting my array to another function.
Here's my testing code:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.10.2/jquery.min.js">
</script>
<script>
var data = new Array();
$(document).ready( function() {
$.ajax({
type: 'POST',
url: 'test.php',
data: 'id=testdata',
dataType: 'json',
cache: false,
success: function(result) {
data = result;
$('#div1').html(result[4]);
},
});
});
$("button").click(function(){
alert(data[4]);
});
</script>
</head>
<body>
<button id="button">Test</button>
<div id="div1"><h2>div1</h2></div>
</body>
</html>
The div changes a half second after the page loads as expected. The click function for testing doesn't work, and its not working in the real function I'm working on:
function onPlayerStateChange(event) {
if(event.data === 0) {
++i;
player.loadVideoById(data[i]);
}
}
This is my first project with jQuery and JS so I'm hoping I'm missing something simple
You should put
$("button").click(function(){
alert(data[4]);
});
inside
$(document).ready( function() {
});
Also, if you put var before variable then it becomes local variable.
So, you should either remove var before
data = new Array();
or just put as a additional parameter
function onPlayerStateChange(event, data) {
if(event.data === 0) {
++i;
player.loadVideoById(data[i]);
}
}
but then you also need to call it inside
$(document).ready(function() {} );
scope.
