I have some javascript functions added in .js file and also added following Jquery function
$(document).ready(function () {
alert("aj");
$(".QDContactDetails").click(function (event) {
alert("Clicked !!!");
});
});
i wonder that javascript functions call properly but above jquery lines doesn't work.. what is problem in above code? how can i put Jquery in .js file..
i am using newly version of Jquery1.7
What you have should work fine. You just need to ensure that you place the reference to jQuery first, then your own external js file references after that:
<script type="text/javascript" src="js/jquery.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="js/my-jquery-code.js"></script>

I hava many jsp page using the common function in body's onload and onunload event when using ocx control.So I extract the common function in one js file call common.js and import the js file in the jsp page.But I find the sometimes the jsp page could not execute the function in js file.Finally,I solve the problem in two way but I think there must have the other simple way?How to simplify my js code?
write all the js function in each jsp,it works well
in the each jsp file,includ the common.js,and in the jsp file the script call the function before load the common.js,but I think it have already be loaded two times
//init(),asynclogin_onclick(),logout_onclick() function is in the common.js file
<head>
<script type="text/javascript" src="/js/common.js"></script>
</head>
<body onload="init()" onunload="logout_onclick()">
$(function(){
$.getScript("/js/common.js")
.done(function(script,textStatus ) {
asynclogin_onclick();
});
});
I try to write the code like this,but it could not work.
$(function(){
asynclogin_onclick();
});
I have this code in the footer of my html page
<script type="text/javascript">
// using jQuery
$('video,audio').mediaelementplayer();
</script>
the above code is adding video player on the html page.
Now I have created a separate js file in which I have already have some line of code which is creating owl sliders, tooltips, number counters etc.
When I add the above code into that separate js file it does not work, instead when I keep it in the footer of the html page it works fine.
Try placing your code within $(function(){ ... }. This will execute when the DOM is loaded (currently your code is being executed before jQuery is loaded, if you check the JavaScript console, you will see an error something like $ is not defined)
$(function(){
$('video,audio').mediaelementplayer();
});
or
$( document ).ready(function() {
$('video,audio').mediaelementplayer();
});
You can read about what that is doing here. $(function() is the same as $( document ).ready()
your html(basically) should look like this:
<html>
<head>
</head>
<body>
<!-- html code here -->
<!-- add jquery lib -->
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.11.3/jquery.min.js"></script>
<!-- your script -->
<script src="you/file/path.js"></script>
</body>
</html>
and your jquery file:
jQuery(function($) {
// your functions here
$('video,audio').mediaelementplayer();
});
Do you have a proper link to the separate js file in your page, generally at the bottom of the body? It should look something like this:
<script type="text/javascript" src="/joyride_odoo_models/static/js/scripts.js"/>
If you've done that properly, have you tried clearing your browser cache? You may need to do that to detect new javascript files.
How do you call your external js file ?
You must add your references js before your external js file.
you must add your function on document.ready.
You may wait until jQuery is full loaded or ready.
Ex.
$(document).ready(function($) {
// Your code goes here
$('video,audio').mediaelementplayer();
});
This code goes in external js file, then you need to include the file in the HTML
<script type="text/javascript" src="path/to/your/js/file"></script>
HI i am facing some problem while calling function from index.html on load event
it return error readjson is not defined in console.
index.html
<script type="text/javascript">
$(window).load(function () {
readjson('a','s');
});
</script>
main.js file
<script type="text/javascript">
function readjson(val1,val2){
//some code
}
</script>
Can anyone tell me why it is not able to call, i have link main.js file to index.html
JavaScript files shouldn't include any HTML.
Remove <script type="text/javascript"> and </script> from main.js.
You should see an error when that file is loaded (along the lines of Unexpected token <).
Call it like this inside the js file without the "script" tag :
function readjson(val1,val2){
//some code
}
In index.html you need the "script"
And follow the advice given in the comments, always include first the .js file and then the function in the index.html
Did you add jquery link properly??
If not, you should add jquery link for $(window) to be called. such as..
<script src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-latest.js"></script>
If you actually have two script declarations as you are showing here the the window load will fire first. It then look for your function, which has not been created yet. That's why you are getting undefined.
You could have one script declaration on the page and place your function in the load function.
<script>
$(window).load(function () {
readjson('a','s');
function readjson(val1,val2){
//some code
}
});
</script>
Remove tags from main.js:
<script type="text/javascript"> and </script>
and remember to include jquery and main.js with:
<script src="https://ajax.aspnetcdn.com/ajax/jQuery/jquery-2.1.4.min.js"></script>
<script src="test.js"></script>
For some reason the external .js file I am linking to isn't working. I am linking to it like so:
<script src="jquery.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.2/jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
I have tested jquery using a simple inline script to hide a paragraph of text when it is clicked on so the jquery library is present and working.
The jquery.js file is in the same folder as the index.php file that is calling it.
What am I doing wrong?
This is the code I have in the external .js file currently just to test it is working(it isn't):
$("document").ready(function(){
$("p").click(function(){
$("p").css("color", "red");
});
});
Problem 1
It looks like jquery.js contains the code you wrote that depends on jQuery.
You need to load jQuery before you try to use it.
Swap the order of the <script> elements.
Problem 2
$("document") will wait for <document> elements to be ready. HTML doesn't have such a thing. Lose the quotes to pass in the document object directly.
Better yet, forget about the explicit call to ready and just
jQuery(function () { /* your function */ });
I am trying to write my javascript functions in a separate file functions.js. Right now that file consists of one function:
function noOverlay() {
$('.overlay').css('display','none');
};
In my html I have these two lines:
<script type="text/javascript" src="/functions.js"></script>
<script>
$(document).ready(
noOverlay()
);
</script>
Essentially what I am trying to do is house a function in an external file and call it in my html. Maybe $document.ready isn't the right way to do this. Or maybe I am just making a silly mistake. Thanks!
Make sure you are importing jQuery and try:
<script type="text/javascript" src="/functions.js"></script>
<script>
$(function () {
noOverlay();
});
</script>
$(document).ready(function(){
noOverlay();
});
Check to make sure the js file was loaded with firebug or chrome's dev tools
Also make sure you load jQuery beforehand as well.
