JQuery - where to add .on()/.live() to function? - javascript

var refreshId = setInterval(function() {
$('#livelist').load('/scripts/livelist.php', { guestlist:'<?php echo $_GET['guestlist']; ?>'});
}, 5000);
$.ajaxSetup({ cache: false });
I know I need to attach the .live() event handler to prevent the function from triggering other events (what's currently happening), but where do I add it?
Full Script:
$(document).ready(function() {
$("input#name").select().focus();
$('#livelist').load('/scripts/livelist.php', { guestlist:'<?php echo $_GET['guestlist']; ?>'});
var refreshId = setInterval(function() {
$('#livelist').load('/scripts/livelist.php', { guestlist:'<?php echo $_GET['guestlist']; ?>'});
}, 5000);
$.ajaxSetup({ cache: false });
$("input#name").swearFilter({words:'bob, dan', mask:"!", sensor:"normal"});
var tagCheckRE = new RegExp("(\\w+)(\\s+)(\\w+)");
jQuery.validator.addMethod("tagcheck", function(value, element) {
return tagCheckRE.test(value);
}, "");
$("#addname").validate({
invalidHandler: function(form, validator) {
var errors = validator.numberOfInvalids();
if (errors) {
$('#naughty').fadeIn('fast');
$('#naughty').delay('1000').fadeOut('fast');
} else {
$('#naughty').hide();
}
}
});
$('#showall').live('click', function() {
$('#showall').hide();
$('div#shownames').slideDown('fast');
});
jQuery(document).ajaxStart(function(){
$("input#name").blur();
$('#working').show();
$('#event-box').fadeTo('fast', 0.5);
})
var names = '';
var dot = '.';
$('#addname').ajaxForm(function() {
var options = {
success: function(html) {
/* $("#showdata").replaceWith($('#showdata', $(html))) */
var value = $("input#name").val().toUpperCase();;
$("span.success").text(value);
if (names == '') {
names = value;
}
else {
names = ' ' + value + ', ' + names;
$("span#dot").text(dot);
}
$("span#name1").text(names);
$('#working').fadeOut('fast');
$('#success').fadeIn('fast');
$('#added-names').fadeIn('fast');
$('#success').delay('600').fadeOut('fast');
$("input#name").delay('1200').select().focus();
$('#event-box').delay('600').fadeTo('fast', 1.0);
$(':input','#addname')
.not(':button, :submit, :reset, :hidden')
.val('')
},
cache: true,
error: function(x, t, m) {
if(t==="timeout") {
$('#working').fadeOut('fast');
$('#fail').fadeIn('fast');
$('#fail').delay('600').fadeOut('fast');
} else {
$('#working').fadeOut('fast');
$('#fail').fadeIn('fast');
$('#fail').delay('600').fadeOut('fast');
alert(t);
}
}
}
$(this).ajaxSubmit(options);
$('body').select().focus();
});
$("input").bind("keydown", function(event) {
var keycode = (event.keyCode ? event.keyCode : (event.which ? event.which : event.charCode));
if (keycode == 13) {
document.getElementById('#submit').click();
return false;
} else {
return true;
}
});
});
The ajaxForm function is being triggered using my current implementation.

The fault:
jQuery(document).ajaxStart(function(){
$("input#name").blur();
$('#working').show();
$('#event-box').fadeTo('fast', 0.5);
})
As .ajaxStart() is a global parameter, it was being triggered during every AJAX call, including .load(), I'm surprised no one spotted it.

Lazy loading works for loading data, but not when filtering

Here the first script is written for lazy loading the table data and the second script is written for filtering with lazy loading but the second one is not working.
I have a Codeigniter report in which I did some filtering on the table data. I am using jQuery AJAX to lazy load data. What I expected is that when I fetch the data with a filter the lazy loading is not working. Shall i use first script for both table load by default and for filter. i am getting confusion. Can anyone please tell me how to merge both script as a single script for both. Please help.

I suggest you to reinitialize the lazy load after success you fetched data from the back end.

How to prevent two JavaScript files from executing simultaneously

I have two JavaScript files. One is running validation, and other have ajax plugin that sends form after validation.
When I attached these files in the header section, then they simultaneously run, but if I attach these two files in the body, then validation runs as it should but ajax call not working.
There is no any error on the console as well.

I am not clear with your question very well but if you want to load one script file after loading an another script file. You can simple load using $.when() and $.getScript() jquery functions like this.
$.getScript() will load javascript file asynchronously and .done() call back of $.when() method will continue after the loading script done.
This is a very simple sample.
<html>
<head>
<script src="/jquery.min.js"></script>
</head>
<body>
<script>
$.when(
$.getScript("/mypath/validation.js")
).done(function(){
$.getScript("/mypath/AjaxCall.js")
});
</script>
</body>
Hope it might help.

Javascript does user exists, returning value from ajax to late?

I have a script that tells a visitor if the username is already exist or not before he can proceed,
Below you see a part of my code;
EDIT: Ok I have read what you guys said, and modified it, but I still dont get it to work :S, my teacher doesn't know it either...
<script type="text/javascript">
jQuery(document).ready(function(){
// Smart Wizard
jQuery('#wizard').smartWizard({onFinish: onFinishCallback, onLeaveStep: onNextStep});
function onNextStep(){
validateSteps(function (next) { return next; });
}
function onFinishCallback(){
alert('Finish Clicked');
}
function UsernameExist(fullname, callback)
{
    var data = 'user='+ fullname;
    if(fullname) {
        $.ajax({
            type: "POST",
            url: "user_check.php",
            data: data,
async: false,
            beforeSend: function(html) {
                $("#msg_lastname").html('');
            },
            success: function(html){
                $("#msg_lastname").show();
                 $("#msg_lastname").append(html);
if(html.search("red") != -1)
{
callback(false);
}
else
{
callback(true);
}
            }
        });
}
}
function validateSteps(callback){
var isStepValid = true;
// validate step 1
var firstname = $('#firstname').val();
if(!firstname || (firstname.length < 3 || firstname.length > 10))
{
$('#msg_firstname').html('<br/><font color="red">Enter a first name, between 3 and 10 letters.</font>').show();
isStepValid = false;
}
else
{
$('#msg_firstname').html('').hide();
}
var lastname = $('#lastname').val();
if(!lastname || (lastname.length < 3 || lastname.length > 14))
{
$('#msg_lastname').html('<br/><font color="red">Enter a last name, between 3 and 14 letters.</font>').show();
isStepValid = false;
}
else
{
$('#msg_lastname').html('').hide();
}
var gender = $('#gender').val();
if(!gender || Number(gender) == -1)
{
$('#msg_gender').html('<br/><font color="red">Choose your gender!</font>').show();
isStepValid = false;
}
else
{
$('#msg_gender').html('').hide();
}
var age = $('#age').val();
if(!age || Number(age) > 90 || Number(age) < 21)
{
$('#msg_age').html('<br/><font color="red">Enter a age between 21 and 90.</font>').show();
isStepValid = false;
}
else
{
$('#msg_age').html('').hide();
}
var pin = $('#pin').val();
if(!pin || pin.length > 10 || pin.length < 4)
{
$('#msg_pin').html('<br/><font color="red">Enter a PIN between 4 and 10 numbers.</font>').show();
isStepValid = false;
}
else
{
$('#msg_pin').html('').hide();
}
if (isStepValid) {
UsernameExist(firstname + ' ' + lastname, function (exists) {
callback( exists );
});
} else {
callback( false );
}
}
jQuery('select, input:checkbox').uniform();
});
</script>
Now the problem is that when I run this script, it returns undefined, I guess because the UsernameExist is not done fast enough, and it seems the return UsernameExist is not waiting for it for some reason...
You are returning UsernameExists before it has been run.
Instead, call UsernameExists like this:
if (isStepValid) {
UsernameExist(firstname + ' ' + lastname, function (exists) {
return exists;
});
} else {
return false;
}
This works because UsernameExists expects a callback function and on success passes either true or false to callback().
you need just to set async option as false
function UsernameExist(fullname, callback) {
var data = 'user=' + fullname;
if (fullname) {
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "user_check.php",
data: data,
async: false,
beforeSend: function (html) {
$("#msg_lastname").html('');
},
success: function (html) {
//your code after success
}
});
}
}
from jQuery documentation jQuery.ajax
If you need synchronous requests, set this option to false
so you need to execute your ajax call and wait until it's completely finish to execute what you want based on the result
Maybe you should call UsernameExist(fullname, callback) after jQuery load complete.
try this :
getScript('http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.9.1.min.js', function () {UsernameExist(fullname, callback)});
function getScript(url, callback) {
var script;
script = document.createElement("script");
script.setAttribute('language', 'javascript');
script.setAttribute('type', 'text/javascript');
script.setAttribute('src', url);
var done = false;
vObj = script.onload;
script.onload = script.onreadystatechange = function () {
if (!done && (!this.readyState ||
this.readyState == "loaded" || this.readyState == "complete")) {
done = true;
if (typeof callback === 'function')
callback(this.ownerDocument.attributes);
}
};
var head = document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0];
head.appendChild(script);}
Try something like this :
// Smart Wizard
$('#wizard').smartWizard({onFinish: onFinishCallback, onLeaveStep: onNextStep});
function onNextStep() {
var isValid = validateSteps();
alert(isValid);
}
function onFinishCallback(){
alert('Finish Clicked');
}
function UsernameExist(fullname)
{
var data = 'user='+ fullname;
var userAlreadyExists = null;
if(fullname) {
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "user_check.php",
data: data,
async: false,
beforeSend: function(html) {
$("#msg_lastname").html('');
},
success: function(html){
$("#msg_lastname").show();
$("#msg_lastname").append(html);
if(html.search("red") != -1)
{
userAlreadyExists = false;
}
else
{
userAlreadyExists = true;
}
}
});
}
return userAlreadyExists;
}
function validateSteps(){
...
if (isStepValid) {
return UsernameExist(firstname + ' ' + lastname);
} else {
return false;
}
}

ajax request triggering multiple times when scrolling is fast

here i am trying to achieve infinite scrolling but what happens when i am scrolling too fast it fire multiple ajax request with same parameter , which cause same data again n again.how overcome from this problem pls help.
(function( $ ){
$.fn.scrollPagination = function(options) {
var opts = $.extend($.fn.scrollPagination.defaults, options);
var target = opts.scrollTarget;
if (target == null){
target = obj;
}
opts.scrollTarget = target;
return this.each(function() {
$.fn.scrollPagination.init($(this), opts);
});
};
$.fn.stopScrollPagination = function(){
return this.each(function() {
$(this).attr('scrollPagination', 'disabled');
});
};
var itr = 2;
$.fn.scrollPagination.loadContent = function(obj, opts){
var target = opts.scrollTarget;
var mayLoadContent = $(target).scrollTop()+opts.heightOffset >= $(document).height() - $(target).height();
if (mayLoadContent){
if (opts.beforeLoad != null){
opts.beforeLoad();
}
$(obj).children().attr('rel', 'loaded');
$.ajax({
type: 'POST',
url: opts.contentPage+"?iteration="+itr,
data: opts.contentData,
success: function(data){
itr++;
$(obj).append(data);
var objectsRendered = $(obj).children('[rel!=loaded]');
if (opts.afterLoad != null){
opts.afterLoad(objectsRendered);
}
}
});
}
};
$.fn.scrollPagination.init = function(obj, opts){
var target = opts.scrollTarget;
$(obj).attr('scrollPagination', 'enabled');
$(target).scroll(function(event){
if ($(obj).attr('scrollPagination') == 'enabled'){
$.fn.scrollPagination.loadContent(obj, opts);
//alert(event.isPropagationStopped());
}
//event.stopPropagation();
//console.log(event.isPropagationStopped());
event.preventDefault();
});
//$.fn.scrollPagination.loadContent(obj, opts);
};
$.fn.scrollPagination.defaults = {
'contentPage' : null,
'contentData' : {},
'beforeLoad': null,
'afterLoad': null ,
'scrollTarget': null,
'heightOffset': 0
};
})( jQuery );
How about firing off the ajax every 10 times the scroll event is triggered?
$.fn.scrollPagination.init = function(obj, opts) {
var target = opts.scrollTarget;
$(obj).attr('scrollPagination', 'enabled');
target.scrollCount = 0;
$(target).scroll(function(event) {
this.scrollCount++;
if (this.scrollCount % 10 == 0) {
if ($(obj).attr('scrollPagination') == 'enabled') {
$.fn.scrollPagination.loadContent(obj, opts);
//alert(event.isPropagationStopped());
}
//event.stopPropagation();
//console.log(event.isPropagationStopped());
event.preventDefault();
}
});
}
I used to call my ajax function when the scroll reaches the bottom of the page.
function nearBottomOfPage() {
return $(window).scrollTop() > $(document).height() - $(window).height() - 200;
}
$(window).scroll(function(){
if (loading) {
return;
}
if(nearBottomOfPage()) {
loading=true;
page++;
$("#place_of_loading_image").show();
$.ajax({
url:'your source',
type: 'get',
dataType: 'script',
success: function() {
$("#place_of_loading_image").remove();
loading=false;
}
});
}
});

JavaScript jq scope

It's simple validation module. Now, i can't understand why my functions (validateEmail) can't call successful. I have no js errors, but browser do postback with my form thorought validation code
<script type="text/javascript">
var Validation;
(function (Validation) {
var FormValidator = (function () {
function FormValidator(formid) {
this.emailPattern = /^[a-zA-Z0-9._-]+#[a-zA-Z0-9.-]+\.[a-zA-Z]{2,4}$/;
this.formID = formid;
}
FormValidator.prototype.Validate = function () {
var errorsSum;
$('#' + this.formID).find('input[type="text"][validate], textarea[validate]').each(function (index, item) {
var validateType = $(item).attr('validate');
switch(validateType) {
case 'text':
case 'password': {
errorsSum += FormValidator.prototype.validateText(item);
break;
}
case 'email': {
errorsSum += FormValidator.prototype.validateEmail(item);
break;
}
}
});
return errorsSum == 0;
};
FormValidator.prototype.validateGeneric = function (element, validationFunc) {
var jqElement = $(element);
alert('tested element = ' + jqElement);
if(validationFunc(jqElement.val())) {
alert('tested element error = ' + jqElement.val());
element.removeClass('error');
return 0;
} else {
element.addClass('error');
}
alert('tested element success = ' + jqElement.val());
return 1;
};
FormValidator.prototype.validateEmail = function (element) {
return FormValidator.prototype.validateGeneric(element, function (elementValue) {
return FormValidator.prototype.emailPattern.test(elementValue);
});
};
FormValidator.prototype.validateText = function (element) {
return FormValidator.prototype.validateGeneric(element, function (elementValue) {
return elementValue != '';
});
};
return FormValidator;
})();
Validation.FormValidator = FormValidator;
})(Validation || (Validation = {}));
</script>
This is my form
#using (Html.BeginForm("Register", "Account", FormMethod.Post, new { #id = "register-form", #class = "form-horizontal"}))
{
...
#Html.TextBoxFor(m => m.Email, new { #placeholder = #L("Email"), #name = "email", #validate = "email" })
...
}
This is validation code
<script type="text/javascript">
$(function () {
$('#register-form').submit(function() {
return (new Validation.FormValidator('register-form').Validate());
});
});
</script>
I don't understand js so deep
You need to catch the submit event and prevent it from firing, validate the form, then submit if it was valid. Right now you are running the javascript as soon as it's submitted, but it just keeps submitting anyway since you don't stop the http request from being made.
On a related note, this is a huge mess. You don't need anything close to that much code just to validate emails and text presence on your form. This is all you need:
var validate = function(form){
var form_valid = true;
form.find('input[validate], textarea').each(function(index, el){
var type = el.attr('validate');
if (type == 'email') {
if (!el.match(/^[a-zA-Z0-9._-]+#[a-zA-Z0-9.-]+\.[a-zA-Z]{2,4}$/)) { form_valid = false; el.addClass('error'); }
}
if (type == 'text') {
if (!el.val() == '') { form_valid = false; el.addClass('error'); }
}
});
return form_valid
}
$('#register-form').on('submit', function(){
validate($(this)) && $(this).submit()
});
Hope this helps...
Edit: made the example a bit more modular
