I was wondering how we can make a HTML element like <div> or <p> tag element resizable when clicked using pure JavaScript, not the jQuery library or any other library.

There are very good examples here to start trying with, but all of them are based on adding some extra or external element like a "div" as a reference element to drag it, and calculate the new dimensions or position of the original element.
Here's an example that doesn't use any extra elements. We could add borders, padding or margin without affecting its operation.
In this example we have not added color, nor any visual reference to the borders nor to the lower right corner as a clue where you can enlarge or reduce dimensions, but using the cursor around the resizable elements the clues appears!

The code below draws 10 canvas objects you can move around. I made them random sizes.
When you click on one it has thicker outline and can be dragged around.
When I added one line to change the initial top position of the canvases the move stopped working.

You are using a global variable for when it is active. That is not set until a click happens so you get tons of errors.
When you are setting a position, it needs some sort of units.

When you drag the blue div, I'd like it to 'snap' into the middle of the green highlighted square when the mouse button is released. I cannot seem to find a way to read the coordinates from the box[] (Path2D()) interface. So is there a simple way to achieve this? Should I save the coordinates of the squares individually? Or can I somehow still get the points out of the Path2D interface?

In my code I'm separating the mouse events from the drawing,
we draw only on the loop.
the events change state variables.
Also noticed that in some cases two boxes got highlighted at the same time changing the size of the rect by a tiny bit fixed that boxsize -0.5

It works well and draws an image exactly as I would like. However, I have divs on top with text for which I have onclick functions on.

The problem is the image is not being drawn underneath the divs because the canvas is under them. I understand I may need to add a listener to the window and draw according to that, but I have tried and tried and do not understand where something like that goes/what needs to be replaced.
Something that I've tried is to get rid of pointer events, which of course works to maintain the continuity of the image being dragged, but prevents me from clicking on the button.

I wrote this script some time ago so there may be ways to update it, but the idea is to get the position of the cursor onmousedown and attach an onmousemove listener. Each time you move the mouse you adjust th size of the box based on the position. Then on mouseup you remove the onmousemove listener.
