I’m after a hand with a bit of JavaScript if possible, I’m working on a collapsible list using jQuery and want to change a background image in a css file dependent on the state of the list
This is the html for the div
<div class="collapse_div">
<div class="header_div">header text</div>
<div class="content_div">
Some text
</div>
<div class="header_div">another header</div>
<div class="content_div">
some more text
</div>
</div>
This is the .css that puts the image (expanded.gif) into the header div
.collapse_div{
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
width: 500px;
}
.header_div {
margin: 1px;
color: #000;
padding: 3px 10px;
cursor: pointer;
position: relative;
background: url(expanded.gif) no-repeat 95%;
background-color:#ccc;
}
.content_div {
padding: 5px 10px;
background-color:#fafafa;
}
And this is the javascript function that controls the expand/collapse when header_div is clicked
jQuery(document).ready(function() {
jQuery(".content_div").hide();
//toggle the componenet with class msg_body
jQuery(".header_div").click(function()
{
jQuery(this).next(".content_div").slideToggle(500);
});
});
I’ve played around with adding code to the .click(function) to try and change the background css tag in .header_div to another file (collapse.gif) but I can’t get it to work, so I thought I’d ask the experts as my javascript is really rusty
At the moment the collapse/expand of the div works fine having the background image change on click would really make it look good
You can have a class with the requried background set and apply that class conditionally. Try this
CSS
.header_div_collapsed {
background: url(collapse.gif) no-repeat 95% !important;
}
JS
jQuery(document).ready(function() {
jQuery(".content_div").hide();
//toggle the componenet with class msg_body
jQuery(".expand_div").click(function()
{
jQuery(this).next(".content_div").slideToggle(500, function(){
var $this = $(this);
if($this.is(':visible')){
$this.removeClass('header_div_collapsed');
}
else{
$this.addClass('header_div_collapsed');
}
});
});
});
Your script should be something like this,
jQuery(document).ready(function() {
jQuery(".content_div").hide();
//toggle the componenet with class msg_body
jQuery(".expand_div").click(function()
{
var elm = jQuery( this );
jQuery(this).next(".content_div").slideToggle(500, function(){
if(jQuery(this).is(":visible"))
jQuery(elm).css({"background-image" : "collapse.gif"});
else
jQuery(elm).css({"background-image" : "expand.gif"});
});
});
});
thanks to both the suggestions post below I managed to get this to work
firstly I added a whole new css function as just defining the background didn't work
.expand_div_collapsed {
margin: 1px;
color: #000;
padding: 3px 10px;
cursor: pointer;
position: relative;
background: url(collapsed.gif) no-repeat 95%;
background-color:#ccc;
}
then the JS was changed to this
jQuery(document).ready(function() {
jQuery(".content_div").hide();
//toggle the componenet with class msg_body
jQuery(".header_div").click(function()
{
var co = jQuery(this);
jQuery(this).next(".content_div").slideToggle(500, function(){
if(jQuery(this).is(':visible')){
jQuery(co).addClass('expand_div_collapsed');
}
else{
jQuery(co).removeClass('expand_div_collapsed');
}
});
});
});
the add and remove class calls had to be swapped around and I had to define the var co before the slideToggle call
but thanks to everyone who offered suggestions as I would have never got this to work otherwise

On my site I have an image class for external images. Every image MUST use the [caption] shortcode. I want to place a border and text box over every image in that class throughout the whole site.
So far I have...
.img-external {
border: 5px solid #818a99;
height: auto;
width: 100%;
position: relative;
}
...shows up fine.
I want to add...
.text-block {
position: absolute;
bottom: 20px;
right: 20px;
background-color: black;
color: white;
padding-left: 20px;
padding-right: 20px;
}
...with the text "EXTERNAL IMAGE"
This works...
if ($('.img-external')[0]) {
$('.text-block').text('EXTERNAL IMAGE');
} else {}
...
<div class="img-external">
<div class="text-block"></div>
</div>
...in theory when I plug it all into codepen but how can I make this work on Wordpress?
Edit: Wordpress is using <figure><img class="img-external" src=""> etc., and I can't get it to work. Where do I call the text-block?
you have to edit yours template js and css file. Also you can add your file. More information you can find here: https://developer.wordpress.org/themes/basics/including-css-javascript/ and here: https://www.wpexplorer.com/javascript-wordpress/
Cheers
change this:
if ($('.img-external')[0]) {
$('.text-block').text('EXTERNAL IMAGE');
} else {}
to this:
if ($('.img-external')) {
$('.img-external').first().find('.text-block').text('EXTERNAL IMAGE');
} else {}
If you want add text only for first div with .img-external class
Cheers
I am trying to change content in the div, when user typing in other div. Everything works fine: JSFiddle
But when I insert these divs inside another div (I insert these divs inside HTML-editor that is editable div) - it is not working at all.
How can it block this?
$(document).keyup(function() {
var add_title = $("#add_title").html();
$("#title").html(add_title);
});
* {
box-sizing: border-box;
}
.input {
display: inline-block;
min-width: 400px;
min-height: 40px;
padding: 10px;
border: 1px solid blue;
}
.title {
margin-bottom: 10px;
}
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/2.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<div id=title class=title>default</div>
<div id=add_title class=input contenteditable=true></div>
Try this.
$(document).on('keyup','.input',function () {
var add_title = $(this).html();
$( "#title" ).html(add_title);
});
It seems like you are adding dynamic elements to the page and for those elements it is not working. if that is the issue then you have to look into event delegation a bit more. The above code will hopefully fix your issue.
I am trying to build a simple dropdown plugin for small project of mine. I do not want to use ready plugins, I want to learn by making one on my own.
html:
<div>
<span class="dropdown_triger">press</span>
<div class="content dropdown-closed">
</div>
</div>
css:
span{
display:inline-block;
background: green;
padding: 5px;
}
.content{
position: absolute;
top: 40px;
border: solid 1px black;
width: 200px;
height: 100px;
}
.dropdown-closed { display: none; }
.dropdown-open { display: block; }
and JS:
$(document).ready(function(){
$('body').on('click', '.dropdown_triger', function(e){
var $wrapper = $(this).parent();
var $content = $(this).next();
var $triger = $(this);
if($triger.hasClass('selected')){
$(document).off('mouseup.dropdownDocClick');
console.log('hasClass');
}
$triger.toggleClass('selected');
$content.toggleClass('dropdown-closed dropdown-open');
$(document).on('mouseup.dropdownDocClick',function (e){
console.log('fire');
if (!$wrapper.is(e.target) && $wrapper.has(e.target).length === 0){
if($content.hasClass('dropdown-open')){
$content.toggleClass('dropdown-closed dropdown-open');
$(document).off('mouseup.dropdownDocClick');
}
}
});
});
});
Everything works except for this place:
if($triger.hasClass('selected')){
$(document).off('mouseup.dropdownDocClick');
console.log('hasClass');
}
I expect that mouseup event would not fire anymore but it does. Here is a fiddle, just try it. If I open dropdown, mouseup event is attached to document and keeps firing until I have clicked outside container thus closed dropdown.
But if I close dropdown by clicking again on triger button(span in my example) event is not removed and I can not understand why?
I am writing a plugin for showing ajax content.It is wrapped in a ajax-content-wrap.I have applied jquery animate() but not smooth with auto height.And fade() function is also animating.But when i use a specific height animate() works and fadeIn() does not works.
my html codes are below
<div class="ajax-content-wrap">
<div class="ajax-content-show">
//here to show contents from external files
</div>
</div>
My jquery
$('.ajax-content-show').animate({height:'200px'}, function(){
$(this).fadeIn('slow', function(){
$(this).fadeIn('slow').load(url);
})
});
My css
.ajax-content-show{
padding: 20px 20px;
display: block;
border: 1px solid #eee;
margin: 10px 0;
}
If I understand what you are trying to acheive here is a solution:
$('.ajax-content-show').animate({
height: '200'
}, 500, "linear",
function () {
$('.ajax-content-show').hide(0, function () {
$('.ajax-content-show').load(url, function () {
$('.ajax-content-show').fadeIn('slow')
});
});
});
If not, can you explain (in steps) what you require, first make "div" 200px then fade in "loaded page" or do them both simultaneously?
Note: Don't need to include the 'px' when setting the height property, JQuery assumes pixels as a default.
May this you want ?
See snippet.
$(".ajax-content-show").load("https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.11.1/jquery.min.js", function(){
$(this).slideDown(10000); // change the time, or just remove it if you think too slow.
$(this).addClass("loaded");
});
.ajax-content-show{
padding: 20px 20px;
display: none;
border: 1px solid #eee;
margin: 10px 0;
height: auto;
opacity: 0;
transition: opacity 5s ease;
max-height: 500px; /* This just for show that sliding is working */
}
.ajax-content-show.loaded {
opacity: 1;
}
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.11.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<div class="ajax-content-wrap">
<div class="ajax-content-show">
//here to show contents from external files
</div>
</div>
I'm tying to make text fadeIn and stay visible while the mouse pointer is in the container and only when the mouse pointer leaves the designated area, only then must the text fadeOut but for some reason its not working, the text will fadeOut even when the mouse is inside the container.
I'm using Jquery lib 1.10.1 as well as Jquery ui 1.11.0
Here is the code:
HTML
<script src="//code.jquery.com/ui/1.11.0/jquery-ui.js"></script>
<div class="hold">
<div class="conti">
<div class="arrow-right"></div>
</div>
<div class="text-fade"></div>
</div>
CSS
.hold{
width: 142px;
background: yellow;
overflow: hidden;
padding:10px;
}
.conti{
width: 30px;
}
.arrow-right {
width: 0;
height: 0;
border-top: 20px solid transparent;
border-bottom: 20px solid transparent;
border-left: 20px solid green;
}
.text-fade{
display: none;
float: right;
margin-top:-30px;
margin-left: 10px;
margin-right:10px;
}
JS
$('.hold').mouseenter(function () {
$('.arrow-right').effect("bounce", { direction:'right', times:3 }, 700);
$('.text-fade').text("this is a test text").fadeIn(1000).css('display',"block");
});
$('.hold').mouseout(function () {
$('.text-fade').fadeOut(1000);
});
This is the link to my fiddle example
mouseout is triggered by children, use mouseleave instead
$('.hold').mouseenter(function () {
// var d = $('.arrow-right');
// d.effect("bounce", { direction:'right', times:3 }, 700);
$('.text-fade').text("this is a test text").fadeIn(1000);
});
$('.hold').mouseleave(function () {
$('.text-fade').fadeOut(1000);
});
JS fiddle updated
Put the text directly into ".text-fade" and give some transition to the ".text-fader" class. Then change the text color via JS.
Here's the code for changing from #FFFFFF to #000000 and back again:
$('.hold').mouseenter(function () {
$('.arrow-right').effect("bounce", { direction:'right', times:3 }, 700);
$('.text-fade').css('color', '#000000');
});
$('.hold').mouseout(function () {
$('.text-fade').css('color', '#FFFFFF');
});
You are using the wrong functions, its mouseenter() and mouseleave()
working fiddle here
your javascript
$('.hold').mouseenter(function () {
$('.text-fade').text("this is a test text");
$('.text-fade').fadeIn(1000);
$('.text-fade').show();
});
$('.hold').mouseleave(function () {
$('.text-fade').fadeOut(1000);
});
also that bounce function you had seems to cause some problems that I could not find out why so I removed it
