I am currently designing a website where I am using the jQuery ScrollTo plug-in, which uses the jQuery 1.6.2 library. As part of the website, I am required to create an Ajax contact form (I need to make sure it does not take the user to another page, as it's a vertically scrolling site in which all content is on one page). The only jQuery Ajax form I could find uses jQuery 1.3.2. I've done a little bit of reading around about the noConflict() mode, but being a bit of a beginner in Java/PHP, I'm really not sure of how to use it.
My current <head> code is as follows:
<script type="text/javascript" src="jquery/jquery-1.6.2.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="form/js/jquery-1.3.2.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="jquery/jquery.scrollTo.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="form/js/js.js"></script>
The first two lines are calling on the two jQuery libraries, and the second ones are the specific codes for the scroll and the form.
I'm really unclear of how to use noConflict with these codes, can someone please help me? I know this question has been asked a lot of times before, but I'm just confused by it!
Please note that I call on my libraries within the page, but no JS is actually written WITHIN the homepage document, it's all in other files, eg: form/js/js.js.
Thanks a lot to anyone that can help me, very much appreciated.
try this:
var jq = jQuery.noConflict();
(function($) {
$(function() {
// more code using $ as alias to jQuery
});
})(jq );
I has solved my similar problem by using the below code.
HTML Code:
<div class="mycssclass">
<h2 >FAQs</h2>
<p >01. This is my first Question?
</p>
</div>
----
----
<p><a name="01Answer"></a>
<br>This is my Answer.</p>
JQuery Code:
customfaq: function(){
$('.mycssclass p:eq(1)').click(function(){
var p = $(".mycssclass p:eq(1)");
var position = p.position();
$(document).scrollTo( {top:position.top,left:position.left}, 800 ); });}

Why does the below code only work in the Codecademy.com editor and not in a real browser or jsfiddle? There seem to be no mistakes...
HTML
<p id='p1'>Zebras eat bananas</p>
<p id='p2'>That's nonsense</p>
With this javascript, #p2 should change automatically when the page has loaded. In the Codecademy editor that's what happens, but see it not work in Jsfiddle and also not when I make HTML/js files and run it in my browser.
How can I fix this? Or did they teach me wrong?
Javascript
$(document).ready(function(){
$('#p2').html("Now it makes sense!");
})
As #dfsq has mentionend, you need to include jQuery to your file, as to your fiddle. You can do this by adding this line before your script:
<script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.11.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
After that, you can put your code in <script> tags:
<script>
$(document).ready(function(){
$('#p2').html("Now it makes sense!");
})
</script>
and you will see that it works.
Your jQuery script should allways be directly before the closing </body> tag, so that the DOM is loaded before you try to access it with javascript/jQuery
So I'm working on my online portfolio using prosite.com and I created some simple hover thingy using javascript (http://wojtek.szukszto.com/index.html). The problem is prosite.com won't allow me to use < script > tag... Is there any way to do it? Maybe as an external html? I don't know... I'm not really good in coding, so any help would be appreciated.
You can have them as DOM Events like
<div onclick="alert('cat');">
I <strong>Really</strong> want a cat!
</div>
<body onload="//you can put a whole bunch of stuff here"></body>
(It is equivalent to window.onload = function(){ //stuff })
You can put your javascript code into external file and call in the head section of your html document
<head>
<script src ="/JS/yourjsfile.js"></script>
</head>
hope that your host allows you to call JS in the head section
The way I do it is by stating the type of script. The ProSite already has javascript integrated within itself. I use:
<script type="javascript"> Code-Goes-Here </script>
I am creating a website (http://yic.am) using wordpress and the theme includes a background and a "subpage_content_bg". The subpage-background is a semi-transparent white background that wraps around the content making it easier to read. I would like the subpage background to become position:fixed instead of position:absolute when you scroll down, so that when it reaches the top of the page it scrolls with the page.
I have found several pages describing and demonstrating the function when the subject is a picture, comment box or text in the actual post or page. However, I cannot seem to find a description for when the picture is a part of the css stylesheet.
The subpage-extract from the stylesheet looks like this:
#sp .content_wrapper_sbl {
width:940px;
min-height:320px;
margin:-107px auto 0;
padding:45px;
position:relative;
z-index:20;
background:url(../../images/subpage_content_bg.png) 0 0 no-repeat;
}
Where should I place the javascript for the function (I am trying to use the function from the above link)? I would like it to be for all pages and posts (except the cover-page)
How do I make the subpage image the target of the function? Is it possible to make the #sp or content_wrapper_sbl the target?
I have been trying a lot of different things for a lot of times - but I am very new to web-designing and coding. I hope all the necessary information is included - any help would be much appreciated.
The code I am working is this: http://jsfiddle.net/EahRx/870/
It looks like you've pretty much got it nailed in that fiddle, haven't you? It's personal preference how you want to arrange your javascript files, I guess. Personally, I like to use the Google library to load my jQuery...
<script src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.10.0/jquery.min.js"></script>
and then load any other plugins you might be using...
<script src="http://www.mydomain.com/js/jquery.plugin1.js"></script>
<script src="http://www.mydomain.com/js/jquery.plugin2.js"></script>
<script src="http://www.mydomain.com/js/jquery.plugin3.js"></script>
and finally I usually build a custom jQuery file and call it, surprise surprise, "jquery.custom.js"...
<script src="http://www.mydomain.com/js/jquery.custom.js"></script>
So the final javascript include list looks like this...
<script src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.10.0/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script src="http://www.mydomain.com/js/jquery.plugin1.js"></script>
<script src="http://www.mydomain.com/js/jquery.plugin2.js"></script>
<script src="http://www.mydomain.com/js/jquery.plugin3.js"></script>
<script src="http://www.mydomain.com/js/jquery.custom.js"></script>
This way the jQuery library is loaded first because the likelihood is that all other javascript files depend on it. Then the plugins are loaded, finally your custom file is loaded because that might depend on some of the earlier plugins being loaded first - for example, your custom file might want to tweak a slideshow file loaded in one of your plugins.
If, for any reason, you are not able to edit the head of your template file to add your javascript include you can add it to the bottom of your HTML like this...
<head>
[META INFO & TITLE]
<script src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.10.0/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script src="http://www.mydomain.com/js/jquery.plugin1.js"></script>
<script src="http://www.mydomain.com/js/jquery.plugin2.js"></script>
<script src="http://www.mydomain.com/js/jquery.plugin3.js"></script>
[CSS AND STUFF]
</head>
<body>
[YOUR WEB PAGE STUFF]
<script src="http://www.mydomain.com/js/jquery.custom.js"></script>
</body>
</html>
Hope this helps point you in the right direction.
Oh, and remember to add the old "document ready" gubbins to the jquery.custom.js file too...
$(document).ready(function(){
[YOUR JQUERY HERE]
});
I'm trying the simplest example of getting datepicker to work, and I just can't seem to get it. There is almost nothing in my fiddle.
The top of my web page has this:
<script src="~/Scripts/jquery-1.6.2.js" type="text/javascript" />
<script src="~/Scripts/jquery-ui-1.8.11.js" type="text/javascript" />
<script>
$(function(){
$("#datepicker").datepicker();
});
</script>
Note: I tried putting the first two script lines in _Layout.cshtml, but I got an error (don't recall the error at the moment). That's why I just put it all on the one page.
And down a bit, in that same page, is this:
<td><input type="text" id="datepicker"></td>
When I click on the input control, nothings happens. However, when I click on the control in the fiddle, it works. What am I missing?
Also, you'll notice I'm using jquery 1.6.2 and jquery-ui 1.8.11. That's different than the fiddle example because fiddle didn't provide those versions as options. I'd be surprised if the version was the difference.
Script tag must have both opening and closing items. You cannot shorthand close them.
Instead of this
<script src="~/Scripts/jquery-1.6.2.js" type="text/javascript" />
do this
<script src="~/Scripts/jquery-1.6.2.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
I'm hoping this won't be the final answer, but I finally got the datepicker to display. After much trial and error, and research, I seem to have a jquery conflict, but I don't know why. Someone suggested something called non-conflict mode. So I changed my datepicker code to this:
<script type="text/javascript">
(function ($) {
$(document).ready(function () {
$("#endTime").datepicker();
});
})(jQuery);
</script>
And it worked. I'm not sure why, but it's finally at least working. If anyone can provide more insight, or a better answer, I'd gladly pick it.
The above example is explained in this answer: Basically, what I did was define a function that takes a parameter (the $) and then execute that function with jQuery as the parameter.
What I still don't understand though, is why this code won't work:
<script type="text/javascript">
jQuery(document).ready(function () {
jQuery("#endTime").datepicker();
});
</script>
If there was a conflict because of the $, and I replaced $ with jQuery, shouldn't it work?
The datepicker is pretty much straight forward why dont you use something like firebug in mozilla to see if it is throwing some error also date picker internally uses the Jquery theme roller so please download and add the jquery "css/custom-Theme/jquery-custom.css" css.
I am working on ASP.NET 3.5, c#, visual studio 2010. I have made a master file and a default page that uses this master file. I have placed a couple asp:contentplaceholders in the master and corresponding code in the page that uses this master. I have also inserted JavaScript like this in the content page (and not the master):
<asp:Content ID="Content6" ContentPlaceHolderID="Mainpage" Runat="Server">
<script src="path1" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script src="path2" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function () {
var options = {
//some java code
};
$(".mycssclass").effect(options);
});
</script>
</asp:Content>
On running the website I get the following runtime error in visual studio:
Microsoft JScript runtime error: 'this.node' is null or not an object
and it point to some function inside the JavaScript like
this.node.onload=function(){..............//I am not a java guy so do not know much about this
Where am I going wrong? Why does the site compile correctly but throw this runtime error?
I also tried inserting this java code inside the master file in the <head>, but same error. This is urgent please so if someone experienced can pinpoint where exactly to put the code that would be solve my problem quickly.
Have you included a reference to the jQuery library? A good practice would be to have the jQuery include in the Master.
<head>
<script type="text/javascript"
src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.2/jquery.min.js">
</script>
<!-- the remainder of your .js references should follow-->
</head>
If it's your intention to have that script run on 'page load', then ensure you have it set correctly:
$(document).ready(function() {
// put all your jQuery goodness in here.
});
More info on jQuery document ready.
I'm not sure exactly what it is you are doing with that snippet of code, but I don't think it is the proper syntax.
You probably should re-write it to look like this:
$(document).ready(
function () {
var options = {
//some java code
};
$(".mycssclass").effect(options);
});
Just passing in the function to the jQuery selector will probably get some wonkiness.
Thank you everyone! there was no problem with either the syntax in the javascript or the location/page where it was first included by me. I just figured out that the mistake was somewhere else. This javascript works on an <img> tag. It zooms the image insdie the <img> tag. I was using the <asp:ImageButton> instead og <img>. It works perfect as soon as I replaced it. Thank you all for your time and the knowledge sharing.
