We have been struggling over the last few days to create an image slider.
Basically, all we want is a list of images, for example:
<ul id="images">
<li id="1">http://www.site.com/image1.jpg</li>
<li id="2">http://www.site.com/image2.jpg</li>
<li id="3">http://www.site.com/image3.jpg</li>
<li id="4">http://www.site.com/image4.jpg</li>
<li id="5">http://www.site.com/image5.jpg</li>
</ul>
<div id="imageshow"> photo X of TOTAL </div>
<a id="prev">previous</a>
<a id="next">next</a>
So basically the contents of the UL are an array of the images, the imageshow div will be the content area where the currently selected image will show and the prev and next links scroll through the images.
We want only one image to be selected at a time, and the image can be changed with the prev and next links.
We have found scripts similar to this on the internet, but they come with other features which we do not need and they just bog down the page. We also need this script to work more than once on a page, as this page will contain 2, 3, 4 or even more of this feature, so this image scroller will need to work for each one, if you get what I mean.
How can we go about doing this? So we can emulate something which looks like the image below:

Thanks :)

what about something like this (untested):
<script>
var imageArray=Array("image1.jpg","image2.jpg","image3.jpg","image4.jpg","image5.jpg");
var spot=0;
document.getElementById('imageshow').innerHTML="<img src=\""+imageArray(spot)+"\"/><br/>Photo "+(spot+1)+" of "+imageArray.length;
function nextpic(){
spot++;
if((spot+1)==imageArray.length){spot=0;}
document.getElementById('imageshow').innerHTML="<img src=\""+imageArray(spot)+"\"/><br/>Photo "+(spot+1)+" of "+imageArray.length;
}
function prepic(){
spot--;
if((spot<0){spot=imageArray.length;}
document.getElementById('imageshow').innerHTML="<img src=\""+imageArray(spot)+"\"/><br/>Photo "+(spot+1)+" of "+imageArray.length";
}
</script>
<div id="imageshow"></div>
<a id="prev" onclick="prepic()">previous</a>
<a id="next" onclick="nextpic()">next</a>

Sorry for my editting format in advance cos it's been a long time since I asked a question. I will try my best to follow all the rules.
So I have this list which works like an image carousel:
<div class="carousel">
<ul>
<li class="past"><img src="img1.png"/></li>
<li class="past"><img src="img2.png"/></li>
<li class="current"><img src="img3.png"/></li>
<li class="future"><img src="img4.png"/></li>
<li class="future"><img src="img5.png"/></li>
</ul>
</div>
Whenever I click on an image, the clicked item's class name will change to "current" and I will translateX <ul> to make "current" <li> look "centered". All of these are in "carousel" <div>.
However I have another div which has a background of an empty-screen iPhone mockup:
<div class = "iphone_screen">
<div>
<img class="display" src="blank_screen.png"/>
</div>
</div>
and I want to do this to the "iPhone" <div>:
var imgUrl = $("body").find(".current").find('img').attr('src');
$(".display").attr('src',imgUrl);
But this jQuery will only be executed once when I load the page.
So how do I execute my jQuery code again whenever I lick one of the <li> items and make the class name current change?
Update: Thank you all for the replies! I feel so stupid......I don't know why I ask this question.........I added a click function before and it didn't work.Then I started to look for alternatives. Now when I think about it, the selector must be wrong.
Since the event that drives everything comes from a click on the li you could run on a click for any li's (inside a ul) inside the carousel classed div.
$(".carousel > ul > li").click(function () {
var imgUrl = $("body").find(".current").find('img').attr('src');
$(".display").attr('src',imgUrl);
});
put your code in a function.
$(".carousel li").on("click" ,function () {
var imgUrl = $("body").find(".current").find('img').attr('src');
$(".display").attr('src',imgUrl);
});
I have content loading dynamically (using new WP_query loop in WordPress) for a jQuery carousel or image-scroll function -- where the image-scroll is a li list of images, styled to look like a strip of images.
When the image-scroll works properly, one of the images in the li tag has a class of active, which expands the image and makes it look like it's in front of the other images,
... and as the user clicks through this strip of images, the active class changes/moves to the targeted li tag, expanding that image.
What's happening is that none of the li tags are active when the page loads - since the content is dynamic through the WP loop (I didn't want all of the li tags to start with the active class, so I didn't add it to the loop),
...and so the images are just lined up in a consistent strip w/o one of the images being expanded (or having that active class).
It is only if the user happens to click on one of the images that it expands,
...but i need one of the images to be expanded (to have the class of active) before the user clicks so I need the active class added as/after the page loads.
I have tried through the jQuery code to target one of the li tags to add the active class, using filter() or closest() after the page loads, but that didn't work.
Or maybe I should write a new script to add the active class?
Any help much appreciated!
I have the abbreviated html and the jQuery function below.

ps as the code indicates, I also have corresponding article titles that scroll with the images, so perhaps I need to adjust the jQuery there, too.
<div class="articles-scroll">
<ul class="images-scroll">
<li><!-- I need only one of these tags to have a class of active to start -->
<a href="#">
<span class="set-image-border" style="float: none;">
<img class="setborder" src="image-set-by-new-wp_query">
</span>
</a>
</li>
<li>
<a href="#">
<span class="set-image-border">
<img class="setborder" src="image-set-by-new-wp_query">
</span>
</a>
</li>
</ul>
<div class="clear-float"></div>
<!-- in this section of html one of the article titles is active to coordinate with the active li image above to produce a corresponding clickable title, this works, but once again, only when user clicks on an image to begin the jQuery image-scroll function -->
<div class="wrapper">
<ul class="images-content">
<li>
<div class="article-header">
<h2>
<a href="link-set-by-new-wp_query">
</h2>
</div>
</div>
</li>
<li>
<div class="wrapper">
<div class="article-header">
<h2>
<a href="link-set-by-new-wp_query">
</h2>
</div>
</div>
</li>
</ul>
</div>
jQuery(".images-scroll li a").click(function() {
jQuery(this).parent().parent().find("li").removeClass("active");
// tried the following instruction as well as on next line, but no go
// jQuery(this).parent().parent().closest("li").addClass("active");
jQuery(this).parent().addClass("active");
jQuery(this).parent().parent().parent().find(".images-content > li").removeClass("active");
jQuery(this).parent().parent().parent().find(".images-content > li").eq(jQuery(this).parent().index()).addClass("active");
var step = ((-250)*(jQuery(this).parent().index()-1))-60;
//alert(step);
jQuery(this).parent().parent().css("margin-left", step+"px");
return false;
});
The reason why the code you wrote didn't work is that you have it inside a click handler, so nothing happens until you click one of the targeted elements. If you want something to happen on page load you can use $(document).ready() (can be shortened as $()) or $(window).load(). Just add the following lines below or above your existing code.
jQuery(function(){
var $listItems = jQuery('.images-scroll li');
$listItems.first().addClass('active');
// Second list item
$listItems.eq(1).addClass('active');
// Third list item
$listItems.eq(2).addClass('active');
});
Also, please note that (unless it conflicts with a different plugin), writing $ is shorter than jQuery, and it should do the same.
I am using ASP.net and have a master page that utilizes navigation. My problem is when I click on a link it loads a different asp page, but the navigation tab doesn't switch to the clicked color,it reverts back to its original color. Since all the pages are loading the same, I can't just use CSS because the page is reloaded. Is there a way to write a javascript function that tells the page when it loads to display the hover color and keep it there? Since the only HTML I use is on the master page, I can't switch anything out. I'm sure there must be a way using nth-child but I can't figure it out. As for the code, a simple example is:
<div>
<ul>
<li>One</li>
<li>Two</li>
<li>Three</li>
</ul>
</div>
So how would I get the 2nd link to switch to the hover color when loading the page?
It's been a while since I've played with asp, so I won't have the exact terms, but I can point you in the right direction.
First, in your master page, add unique ids to all of your nav links. This will make it trivial to access those links in your specific asp pages. It helps to do this because otherwise it's hard to select the link you want. jQuery such as $("div ul li:nth-child('2')") will select the second li that's a child of a ul that's a child of div, but that could happen anywhere on your page.
Once you have that, let's assume your nav panel looks like this:
<div>
<ul>
<li id="linkOne">One</li>
<li id="linkTwo">Two</li>
<li id="linkThree">Three</li>
</ul>
</div>
Then, in the page that loads when Two is clicked, you need to add a script with an onLoad handler that modifies the link:
<script>
document.onload = function() { $("#linkTwo").addClass("hover"); };
</script>
This will wait till the document loads (otherwise you may try changing an element that doesn't exist yet), then run a function that finds the specific element with the id "linkTwo" and adds the css class "hover" to it.
Obviously, this line will be different for each specific asp page - or something you can have your server-side logic calculate.
Your question is a little unclear. But if i understood right in your case i should use a specific css class that is loaded if you determine that you are on current page.
Something like this (i don't know asp, i will put a general example)
<div>
<ul>
<li <?php if($CurrentPage = 'One') {echo 'class="active"';} ?>>One</li>
<li <?php if($CurrentPage = 'Two') {echo 'class="active"';} ?> >Two</li>
<li <?php if($CurrentPage = 'Three') {echo 'class="active"';} ?>>Three</li>
</ul>
</div>
this will put a special class to your element. That class will have the hover color, and the problem is solved.
Hope you can adapt this to asp.
Use the following:
html code
<body>
<div>
<ul style="display:inline; background-color:lightgray; float:left">
<li style="margin:20px; display:inline-block" onclick="frames['target'].location.href='one.html'; toggle_bgcolor(this);">One</li>
<li style="margin:20px; display:inline-block" onclick="frames['target'].location.href='two.html'; toggle_bgcolor(this);">Two</li>
<li style="margin:20px; display:inline-block" onclick="frames['target'].location.href='three.html'; toggle_bgcolor(this);">Three</li>
</ul>
<iframe id="target"></iframe>
</div>
</body>
JS function
function toggle_bgcolor(elem)
{
for(var c=0; c<elem.parentNode.getElementsByTagName('li').length; c++)
{
elem.parentNode.getElementsByTagName('li')[c].style.backgroundColor='';
}
elem.style.backgroundColor='limegreen';
}
The JS-block for the onclick event in each <li> element will toggle the baclkground-color of each <li> element when another <li> is clicked.

I have 11 elements with long description of each element of them. I decided to display the elements on the sidebar and the description of each one of them will be displayed on the body directly when the user clicks on the element.
I came with a solution similar to this ONE
but the problem with this one is put the content (or description) inside the javascript code, and I want the description be on the HTML code to make it later on flexible for changes by the admin after putting the data including the description of these elements on the database instead of hard-coded style.
Therefore, how can I do that?
You can try this way
<div id="menu">
<ul>
<li id="a">item a
<div id="contentA" style="display:none">Description of item A</div>
</li>
<li id="b">item b
<div id="contentB" style="display:none">Description of item A</div>
</li>
</ul>
</div>
<div id="content"></div>
<script type="text/javascrip">
$(document).ready( function () {
$('#a').click(function() {
$('#content').html($('#contentA').html());
});
$('#b').click(function() {
$('#content').html($('#contentB').html());
});
});
<script>
I updated your example, it now uses hidden divs inside the clickable menu items, and on li click it finds the menu description and displays it.
This method does not depend on ids and degrades more gracefully (except if the client doesn't support JS but supports CSS display).
Your description is a bit unprecise, but if I get it right your could use IDs for the description text and fade them in/out with jQuery.

I need some css and syntax help,please. Your help is warmly welcome.
I want to insert a list containing some skypelinks and behaving like a sidebar menu when I move the mouse over the image.
This is the html-code I tried to manipulate:
<a href="?USER=name">
<img src="../../name.jpg?format=raw" title="full name - skypename">
</a>
By moving the mouse over the image and the images title is skypename the two links should fade out to the right(float:right;?)
$("img[title$=\"skypename\"]").mouseover(function(){
$("<ul><li>Call</li><li>Chat</li></ul></li></ul>");
});
My aim is to let the html-code look like:
<ul>
<li>
<a href="?USER=name">
<img src="../../name.jpg?format=raw" title="full name - skypename" alt="Klick me!">
</a>
<ul>
<li>Call</li>
<li>Chat</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
I created a fiddle http://jsfiddle.net/erhDJ/2/ where I tried sth. to work like a flyout menu.
In my case the first code I mentioned above would be replacing Klick me!.
By moving the mouse over it the two links should fade out to the right.
My questions:
How can I surround the first code with the second so that it looks like the third code snippet?
Do you see an easier option to create such a flyout menu?
Thank you.
I'm not too sure about what you actually want, but I can give you an example of animating menu's with some CSS and jQuery.
Sliding, animated menu when hovering link
Is this useful?
