i want to append a style sheet(css) link to the head of an iframe using jquery .
i tried with the following code but not working.
$('#tabsFrame').contents().find("head").append(cssLink);
i am used to append data to an iframe by using this line of code
$('body', window.frames[target].document).append(data);
In your case, this line would look like this
$('head', window.frames['tabsFrame'].document).append(cssLink);
EDIT:
Add <head></head> to the iframe and change your var cssLink to
cssLink = '<link href="cupertino_1.4/css/cupertino/jquery-ui-1.8.7.custom.css" type="text/css" rel="Stylesheet" class="ui-theme" />
well, you can check with this:
$('#tabsFrame').contents().find("head")[0].appendChild(cssLink);
I believe you can't manipulate the content of an iframe because of security.
Having you be able to do such a thing would make cross-site-scripting too easy.
The iframe is totally seperate from the DOM of your page.
Also, java and javascript are two completely different things!
Follow the Link to see the difference here
This could be related to IE not allowing you to add elements in the DOM, check out the clever solution here
EDIT:
Thanks #kris, good advice to add more info in case links break:
Here is the main code snippet from the link, in case it goes out again.
(This is only needed with some IE version, for the most part, the other answer work just fine)
var ifrm;
//attempts to retrieve the IFrame document
function addElementToFrame(newStyle) {
if (typeof ifrm == "undefined") {
ifrm = document.getElementById('previewFrame');
if (ifrm.contentWindow) {
ifrm = ifrm.contentWindow;
} else {
if (ifrm.contentDocument.document) {
ifrm = ifrm.contentDocument.document;
} else {
ifrm = ifrm.contentDocument;
}
}
}
//Now that we have the document, look for an existing style tag
var tag = ifrm.document.getElementById("tempTag");
//if you need to replace the existing tag, we first need to remove it
if (typeof tag != "undefined" || tag != null) {
$("#tempTag", ifrm.document).remove();
}
//add a new style tag
$("HEAD", ifrm.document).append("");
}

I am automating a process wherein I have to login to website and download only the CSV files from the different types of files.
My jQuery code is getting executed in the console but not getting executed after integrating with HTML. Please find the jQuery code below :
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<script type="text/javascript" src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.9.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
$(window).on("load", function() {
$('.ibody tr').each(function(a, b) {
var count = 0;
var name = $('.cl', b).text();
if (name.indexOf(".CSV") !== -1 && name.indexOf("TAS") !== -1) {
var d = a - 9;
var hiddenIFrameID = 'hiddenDownloader' + count++;
var iframe = window.createElement('iframe');
iframe.id = hiddenIFrameID;
iframe.style.display = 'none';
window.body.appendChild(iframe);
iframe.src = "https://www.shipper-ml.com/viewReports.do?ctrl=reportListForDownload&action=DownloadReport¶m=" + d;
}
});
});
</script>
</head>
<body></body>
</html>
EDIT: I was, indeed, off-base with this. Didn't read your code carefully.
leaving this here for historical purposes...
I might be completely off-base with my assumptions here, and apologize in advance if this is the case. That said, it really looks like you are trying to load a page inside an IFrame and use jQuery outside of the IFrame to read data from inside the IFrame.
Long story short: you cannot use jQuery (or any javascript, or, indeed, ANYTHING AT ALL, if the browsers are working as they should) to manipulate or read content that is inside an IFrame, from outside the IFrame, if that IFrame has a src tag.
You can only manipulate / read from iframe you have built from scratch by yourself. This is by design, and for an important security reason. If you want to use IFrame to display a page, you are severely restricted to only show the page to user as-is.
If my assumption was correct, you need to either:
Get your JavaScript embedded (nicely) into the page you are now loading in your IFrame or
Use an AJAX call to get the contents of that page into your current page's memory context. This will probably mean jumping through some hoops if you really want to use jQuery to find all the elements you want.
...or, you may be able to create an empty IFrame, put the content you got from the AJAX call into that IFrame along with your Javascript, and get it to work. maybe. Not sure about this one.
can you please try with this? replace your window.createElement with document.createElement .
$(document).ready(function() {
$('.ibody tr').each(function(a, b) {
var count = 0;
var name = $('.cl', b).text();
if (name.indexOf(".CSV") !== -1 && name.indexOf("TAS") !== -1) {
var d = a - 9;
var hiddenIFrameID = 'hiddenDownloader' + count++;
var iframe = document.createElement('iframe');
iframe.id = hiddenIFrameID;
iframe.style.display = 'none';
document.body.appendChild(iframe);
iframe.src = "https://www.shipper-ml.com/viewReports.do?ctrl=reportListForDownload&action=DownloadReport¶m=" + d;
}
});
})
I'm evaluating Featherlight lightbox and I'm not able to implement code that satisfies my use case. I need a lightbox that will be used as a report viewer which displays dynamically created content assigned to a JavaScript variable. The value of the string is a valid HMTL5 page.
I've looked at the iframe example, but it depends upon a static iframe being in the DOM. That's not what I need.
I've reviewed this GitHub issue and this jsfiddle and I'm not able to successfully modify the fiddle to display a string.
This is an example of the string I would like to display:
var s = '<!DOCTYPE html><html><head><meta charset="UTF-8"><title>Title of the document</title></head><body><p>Content of the document......</p></body></html>';
Is this possible and if so how?
I expect that $.featherlight() will be called manually in response to a button click.
The solution I came up with was to modify the Featherlight source code in 2 places as indicated in this block of code (currently around line 383).
iframe: {
process: function(url) {
var deferred = new $.Deferred();
var $content = $('<iframe/>')
.hide()
.attr('src', url)
.attr('id', this.namespace + '-id') // [KT] 10/31/2016
.css(structure(this, 'iframe'))
.on('load', function() {if ($content.show()) {deferred.resolve($content.show()) } else {deferred.resolve($content)} ; }) // [KT] 10/31/2016
// We can't move an <iframe> and avoid reloading it,
// so let's put it in place ourselves right now:
.appendTo(this.$instance.find('.' + this.namespace + '-content'));
return deferred.promise();
}
},
The id attribute is added to the iframe so content can be added by JavaScript, like this:
var s = '<!DOCTYPE html><html><head><meta charset="UTF-8"><title>Title of the document</title></head><body><p>Content of the document......</p></body></html>';
var oIframe = document.getElementById('featherlight-id'); // Featherlight's iframe
var iframeDoc = (oIframe.contentDocument || oIframe.contentWindow.document);
iframeDoc.open();
iframeDoc.write(s);
iframeDoc.close();
This then works:
$.featherlight({iframe: 'about:blank', iframeWidth: '96%' });
The 2nd modification is required so that the url 'about:blank' doesn't raise an error.
I also modified the css so as to get the scroll bars to work as needed.
Edit: the issue with Featherlight not opening an iframe when the url is abount:blank has been fixed as of version 1.5.1.
Edit 2: Using v1.5.1, this works without having to make a modification to Featherlight to add an id to to the iframe:
var s = '<!DOCTYPE html><html><head><meta charset="UTF-8"><title>Title of the document</title></head><body><p>Content of the document......</p></body></html>';
$.featherlight({iframe: 'about:blank'});
var $iframe = $('.featherlight iframe');
$iframe.ready(function () {
$iframe.contents().find("body").append(s);
});
The accepted SO answer was used for this solution.
I have been having some issues figuring this out.
Page 1
<iframe id="block" src="page2.html" tag> </iframe>
I want to hover in the Iframe and trigger an event if the element that I am hovering has a certain tag.
$("*").hover(function(){
var attr = $(this).attr('name');
if (typeof attr !== typeof undefined && attr !== false) {
return; //do something
}
});
I have tried multiple things but they all seem to want something just a bit different, I understand the firing of a event from a parent class. I don't seem to get how to do this though. The result that I want:
I hover in the Iframe over an element that has tag
I get a response on the end of the Iframe that I can work with further
I feel like I got very close but I just need a little piece of connecting code, hopefully someone can explain what I need.
As long as you're on the same domain (you are) there is an easy way:
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/3.1.1/jquery.min.js"></script>
<iframe id="block" src="page.html" onload="test()"></iframe>
<script>
function test() {
var iframe = document.getElementById('block');
var doc = iframe.contentDocument || iframe.contentWindow.document;
var element = doc.getElementById('hover');
$(element).hover(function() {
element.append("It's working!\n");
});
}
</script>
i am trying to call a external HTML page to be displayed on website based on javascript conditions.
The code is like this
<script language="JavaScript" src="http://j.maxmind.com/app/country.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
var country = geoip_country_code();
if (country == "US")
{
document.write("http://www.mywebsite.com/1.html");
}
else if (country == "GB")
{
document.write("<a href='#'><img src='http://www.image2.com' ><a/>");
}
else
{
document.write("<a href='#'><img src='http://www.image3.com' ><a/>");
}
</script>
Now, instead of showing the content of HTML page to US visitors, it just display "http://www.mywebsite.com/1.html" as plain text.
I am missing a function to call external HTML. Can someone help? Thanks
Do you mean the <iframe> element?
document.write('<iframe src="http://www.mywebsite.com/1.html"></iframe>');
Since <iframe> cannot resize itself to match the size of its content, be sure to give it a width/height attribute or style (if you know the actual size of content).
Spitting the text of a URL into a page doesn't magically grab the contents of that page. This type of activity usually happens on the SERVER where your server will fetch the content from another page and serve it up as part of YOUR page. JavaScript is the wrong tool for this job.
this kind of thing is really better to do server-side with stuff like php but here's a function I use in a lot of my commercial jobs. Again, I don't condone the use of this function for loading entire pages, but it's a really handy one to have in your toolbox. If anyone says you have to use JQuery to do this, kick them for me. ^_^
function fetchHTML(url)
{
if( 'undefined' == typeof(url) ) return false;
if( document.all ){
p = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
}
else
{
p = new XMLHttpRequest();
}
rnd = Math.random().toString().substring(3);
if( url.indexOf('?') > -1 )
{
url+='&rnd='+rnd;
}
else
{
url+='?rnd='+rnd;
}
p.open("GET",url,false);
p.send(null);
return p.responseText;
}
well, you are giving a string to document.write() function, and that's why it is displaying the string that it was supposed to display. If you want to display content of some other page you have two choices either you can use an <iframe> or use ajax.
I am using the openwysiwyg editor in my webpage. I want to clear the contents of it. I have used
$('#report').val('');
but that doesn't clear it.
The editor creates an iframe and updates the contents there, syncing as it goes.
How would I go about clearing it?
You probably need to supply a bit more information - the html itself would be very useful, but I'm going to assume that report is the id of the textarea you need cleared.
If it's a normal textarea, your code should really work.
If (as Paulo mentions in the comments) it's being modified by an openwysiwyg editor, it's probably being turned into an iFrame with it's own HTML page in it. It's a lot more difficult to manipulate the iFrame.
Looks like that's the case.
Have a look at this example to see if it helps you reference the iFrame itself: http://www.bennadel.com/index.cfm?dax=blog:1592.view
This is a hacked excerpt of the example.html that comes with openwysiwyg:
<script type="text/javascript">
// Use it to attach the editor to all textareas with full featured setup
//WYSIWYG.attach('all', full);
// Use it to attach the editor directly to a defined textarea
WYSIWYG.attach('textarea1'); // default setup
WYSIWYG.attach('textarea2', full); // full featured setup
WYSIWYG.attach('textarea3', small); // small setup
// Use it to display an iframes instead of a textareas
//WYSIWYG.display('all', full);
function getIFrameDocument( id )
{
var iframe = document.getElementById(id);
if (iframe.contentDocument) {
// For NS6
return iframe.contentDocument;
} else if (iframe.contentWindow) {
// For IE5.5 and IE6
return iframe.contentWindow.document;
} else if (iframe.document) {
// For IE5
return iframe.document;
} else {
return null;
}
}
function clearcontents()
{
getIFrameDocument('wysiwygtextarea1').body.innerHTML = '';
}
</script>
Then somewhere in the page, I've got a clear button (actually div):
<div style="width:120px;height:20px;background:#ff0000;text-align:center;display:block;" onclick="clearcontents();">Clear!</div>
Note that the id of your textarea is prefixed with wysiwyg. That's the name of the iFrame.
I've tested this in Firefox but nothing else at the moment. The code for getting the iFrame I found on the Net somewhere, so hopefully it works for other browsers :)
This works, but is butt ugly:
var frame = WYSIWYG.getEditor('--ENTER EDITOR NAME HERE--');
var doc = frame.contentWindow.document;
var $body = $('html',doc);
$body.html('');
Replace --ENTER EDITOR NAME HERE-- by whatever you pass to the editor when you call attach.
I believe this works
$('#report').text('');
