Need Functions That Wait Until Cache Can Be Verified - javascript

I'm aware that the immediate response is going to be to use promises for the following problem. However, I've looked at every example I can and nothing seems to be readable to me. Most is done through HTML examples, which I don't understand. Similar posts here have a plethora of arguments on which syntax is appropriate which furthers the confusion. So, please show me how I might use a promise to do the following or if another solution is better.
I'd like for a function to check if the cache is available, and if not, it will reinitialize the cache:

Both of these scripts work fine on their own and return what I need. But if I have a third script:

The reqVal() function fails due to the asynchronous nature of GAS and the Cache having expired, but the valData() function succeeds and produces the needed array. So, I know I need to add a promise in valData() that the reqVal() function can read from but have no idea how to format that as examples I've seen have been very unclear.

nodelist sometimes loads after the function is finished

I have an issue where I sometimes am able to load the nodelist before it is being called but at the same time it sometimes loads after it is being called(Causing an error of the list being undefined).

JavaScript is Single threaded, which means only one thing can happen at a time. However, with async calls you can "act" like a multy-threaded language.
For example the build-in fetch() funktion returns a Promise that you can await.

So you can await Promises and write async funktions that return promises.
But this topic isnt an easy one. I'd really recomend getting into Promises and Async calls as soon as possible because you're gonna encounter them if you develop in the Web sooner or later.
But to your Problem.... at least from my point of view you're not giving enough information. Tracer69 hase a good proposal for that in the comments.

How to slow down an Ajax call?

I have a function in JS contains a loop, that calls an AJAX call every iteration. The call to inserts checked elements into a DB and returns the results of those elements in the same page in the next section.
The problem I have is that when I check for e.g. 4 checkboxes out of 3 groupes, the only checkboxes of the last group gets added to the page. However, when I use alert(), I can see all elements.
I used setTimeout, but I got error in the code. I also added lines to give more time to AJX call, but the problem remains. So I wonder if there is a solution to slow down the code without using alert().

I will likely be downvoted for mentioning this, because it is not a recommended procedure, but I believe every coder should have all facts.
In jQuery AJAX construct, there is option async:false, which will delay the script from continuing UNTIL the AJAX has completed processing. Needless to say, if things go wrong in the AJAX the browser could freeze. A lot depends on who your users are, and amount of traffic -- on a few of my ten-user in-house projects it was an acceptable solution.

The problem you're running into deals with asynchronous functions, or the A in AJAX. If you don't know what an asynchronous function is, there are many others who can explain it better than I can, so give that a google.
What's happening without the alert() in there is your code makes 4 sever calls, but all 4 get sent out before you get a response to any of them. With the alert() (or setTimeout), you're giving the code time to received each response to a call before the next one is made.
There are several ways you can approach this, the first way is by calling the next call after the first receives a response. The second way is to use an async function to call all 4 at once on different chains(?). I'm not the best at explaining this part, but there's plenty of code to be found on SO and online.
I think you have a more generic problem in your code, since you seem to need to delay your executions to wait till sth. else is finished, instead of getting anounced when it is done.
The line that annoys me most is this one

what exactly is update doing? How is it implemented?
I assume it does sth. like divCategorie.innerHTML += ajaxPage.texte;
Wich is highly unfavorable, since the browser has to parse and rebuild, whatever there already is in divCategorie.innerHTML.
Just appending the new Markup would be better.
long way short: maybe a good hack would be to insert some hidden node as a placeholder (so you kan keep order, although the AJAX-requests may return in a different order) and replace that node with the real content, as soon as it arrives.

indexeddb Invalid state error by call-stack?

The InvalidStateError occures first, the AbortError follows.
I am calling this function inside another onsuccess function of the same database. Might this be the problem?
What is this.link? That's probably the problem. You need to be doing createObjectStore on the database instance created by the indexedDB.open request. So either this.req.result.createObjectStore or (if you change to this.req.onupgradeneeded = function (e) {) you could use e.target.result.createObjectStore.
More generally, I can't really comment on what your code is supposed to be doing because I can only see a snippet, but it looks really weird how you are incrementing the version every time this is called. Probably you don't actually want to be doing that. You might want to read a bit more documentation.

accessing object values that are inside an array

I'm hoping someone can help with what is likely a simple answer - but I'm ready to bash my head against the wall....again.
I have a function which makes a JSON call to an API, and then pushes the results into an array. The function appears to work just fine as my console.log is showing that the array is populated correctly.
I'm struggling with how to access the values of the modified twichResult object (after the function has run), so that I can do 'stuff' with it. e.g. display the value of the 'status' property onscreen etc... I give some examples of what I've tried in the in the large commented out section.
I'd really appreciate some intelligence weighing in on this as I've exhausted my resources. Thanks in advance.

$.getJSON is making an ajax-request. You must handle this request from within the request handler. When getTwichers returns, twichResults is not yet set.
There are methods to delay Program execution, until twichResults is done, but You should not think of using them, since they would delay program execution. The idea of ajax is to execute things asynchronously, without disturbing the rest of the execution flow. If the code You want to execute depends on the json, then You should add it to the handle in $.getJSON. Just write a new function (e.g. continue_execution(twichResult)) and invoke it right after twitchResult["results"].push(channel);. Just don't do anything after getTwitchers(...).
By the way: It is a good habit to define functions, before they are used, because it follows the flow the human eye reads the code and there are programming languages, which depend on this style of declaring function.

I want to asynchronously load scripts but have ordered execution
I am trying to enforce that the code in the inserted script elements execute exactly in the same order as they were added to the dom tree.
That is, if I insert two script tags, first and second, any code in first must fire before the second, no matter who finishes loading first.
I have tried with the async attribute and defer attribute when inserting into the head but doesn't seem to obey.
I have tried with element.setAttribute("defer", "") and element.setAttribute("async", false) and other combinations.
The issue I am experiencing currently has to do when including an external script, but that is also the only test I have performed where there is latency.
The second script, which is a local one is always fired before the first one, even though it is inserted afterwards in the dom tree ( head ).
A) Note that I am still trying to insert both script elements into the DOM. Ofcourse the above could be achieved by inserting first, let it finish and insert the second one, but I was hoping there would be another way because this might be slow.
My understanding is that RequireJS seems to be doing just this, so it should be possible. However, requireJS might be pulling it off by doing it as described in A).

No, async and defer won't help you here. Whenever you dynamically insert script elements into the DOM, they are loaded and executed asynchronically. You can't do anything against that.

No. Even with RequireJS the scripts are executed asynchronous and not in order. Only the module initialiser functions in those scripts are just define()d, not executed. Requirejs then does look when their dependencies are met and executes them later when the other modules are loaded.
Of course you can reinvent the wheel, but you will have to go with a requirejs-like structure.
Ok, I think I have now came up with a solution.
The trick is that we keep track of each script to be loaded and their order as we insert them into the dom tree. Each of their callback is then registered accordingly to their element.
Then we keep track of when all has finished loading and when they all have, we go through the stack and fire their callbacks.

Ok, some of you might argue that there is missing info in the question, which I will give you and here we are actually just solving the callback. You are right. The code in the script is still executed in the wrong order, but the callback is now.
But for me this is good enough, as I intend to wrap all code that is loaded in a method call, alá AMD, such as a require or define call and will put on stack there, and then fire them in the callback instead.
I am still hoping out for Asad and his iframe solution, which I believe might provide the best answer to this question. For me though, this solution will solve my problems :)

After a while of fiddling around with it, here is what I came up with. Requests for the scripts are sent off immediately, but they are executed only in a specified order.
The algorithm:
The algorithm is to maintain a tree (I didn't have time to implement this: right now it is just the degenerate case of a list) of scripts that need to be executed. Requests for all of these are dispatched nearly simultaneously. Every time a script is loaded, two things happen: 1) the script is added to a flat list of loaded scripts, and 2) going down from the root node, as many scripts in each branch that are loaded but have not been executed are executed.
The cool thing about this is that not all scripts need to be loaded in order for execution to begin.
The implementation:
For demonstration purposes, I am iterating backward over the scriptsToExecute array, so that the request for CFInstall is sent off before the request for angularJS. This does not necessarily mean CFInstall will load before angularJS, but there is a better chance of it happening. Regardless of this, angularJS will always be evaluated before CFInstall.
Note that I've used jQuery to make my life easier as far as creating the iframe element and assigning the load handler is concerned, but you can write this without jQuery:
