I have created a button dynamically in JavaScript and i am deleting the same when user clicks X symbol on it..
I am setting style.display=none to achieve this but the problem is in HTML there is space in it even after deleting the button. How can i delete the button without any space in HTML.
var x = document.getElementById(id);
x.style.display='none';
First of all, if you Google remove HTML element in javascript the first thing you see is this: How to remove an HTML element using Javascript?
and it works, but I'll pitch in my 2 cents anyways since that one uses parentElement, which is kinda outdated.
There's a .remove() method in javascript that lets you remove an html element.
It's as simple as:
var x = document.querySelector("#id");
x.remove();
but I doubt that will solve your issue, you might want to remove the parent element if it has a margin or padding like so:
var x = document.querySelector("#id");
x.parentElement.remove();
cheers
try it if u want to change the css
<script type="text/javascript">
$("#id").css('display', 'none');
</script>
or use it for add or remove the class. change the add to remove if want remove the class
<script type="text/javascript">
document.getElementById("submit").classList.add('disabled');
</script>

I want to change the design of my site by changing the CSS file attached. I have tried with script when the link is with id "link"
var x = document.getElementByID ("link")
X.href = style2
It didn't work.
The other thing I tried was to hide the <link> tag which had class "linkclass"
<style>
link.linkclass {
visibility:hidden;
}
</style>
But it didn't work either.
Can someone help.
Sorry if the code is bad formatted but I can't get how to format code in stack overflow
Three things wrong with this:
javascript is case sensitive. That means X is a different variable than x
style2 is not a valid URL. You have to use an URL to an existing .css file
<link> is not a visible element. Hiding an element that isn't visible in the first place accomplishes nothing.
This works:
var x = document.getElementByID("link");
x.href = "http://url/to/your/style2.css";
// ^ notice the lowercase x
If you wanna hide element (I got that impression from your examples), your javascript code should look like this:
var x = document.getElementById("link");
x.style.display = 'none';
Also take care with following:
-uppercase letters getElementbyId
-you're missing semicolon (;) after first expression
-your variable "x" is uppercase in second row("X").
In most cases this should be enough to disable element with CSS, just add this class (linkclass) to element which you want to hide:
<style>
.linkclass {
display: none;
}
</style>
You could do
$("#link").disabled = true;
This may also work.
document.getElementByID("link").disabled = true;
There is also another Stack question that addresses this here. Removing or Replacing a Stykesheet
update
You say you are trying to change the stylesheet. You could create a function to do it like this.
function styleSheetSwitcher( newFile ){
$("#link").prop("href", newFile);
}
styleSheetSwitcher("myNewCss.css");
I have a problem, I wanted to create a div in html as a container and in javascript create new divs within the container based on a number input from a user prompt.
My html and javascript look like this.
HTML:
<!doctype html>
<html>
<head>
<link rel="stylesheet" href="stylesheet.css">
<title>Sketchpad</title>
</head>
<body>
<button type="button">Reset</button>
<div class= "container">
</div>
<script src="javascript.js"></script>
<script src="jQuery.js"></script>
</body>
JS
var row = prompt("Enter number of rows:");
var column = prompt("Enter number of columns:");
function createGrid(){
var cont = document.getElementsByClassName('container');
for(i=1; i<column; i++){
var sketchSquare = document.createElement('div');
cont.appendChild(sketchSquare);
}
}
createGrid(column);
I end up with this error: Uncaught TypeError: cont.appendChild is not a function.
I imagine this is something to do with the getElementsByClassName?
I do have a solution which involves creating the container div in javascript and appending the smaller squares inside the container div. I was just curious as to why my first soltuion didn't work?
cont[0].appendChild(myDiv) is a function.
When you document.getElements By Class Name as the name implies you are getting many elements (an array of sorts) of elements and this array don't have the same functions as each of its elements.
Like this:
var thinkers = [
{think: function(){console.log('thinking');}
];
thinkers don't have the method .think
but thinkers[0].think() will work.
try this: open your javascript console by right clicking and doing inspect element:
then type:
var blah = document.getElementsByClassName('show-votes');
blah[0].appendChild(document.createElement('div'));
It works!
also if you want to use jQuery which I do see you added...
you can do:
var cont = $('container');
cont.append('<div class="sketchSquare"></div>');
Try that out by doing this:
First get an environment that has jQuery.
Hmm maybe the jQuery docs have jQuery loaded!
They do: http://api.jquery.com/append/.
Open the console there and at the bottom where the console cursor is type:
$('.signature').append('<div style="background: pink; width: 300px; height: 300px"></div>');
You'll notice that you add pink boxes of about 300px^2 to 2 boxes each of which have the "signature" class.
By the way, prompt gives you a string so you'll have to do row = Number(row); or row = parseInt(row, 10); and another thing don't use that global i do for(var i = 0; ...
var cont = document.getElementsByClassName('container');
Because that^ doesn't return a node, it'll return an HTMLCollection.
https://www.w3.org/TR/2011/WD-html5-author-20110705/common-dom-interfaces.html#htmlcollection-0
You need to pick an individual node from that collection before appending.
There could be a couple of issues that could cause this. Without fully giving the answer here's what it could be at a high level.
Your script is ran before the DOM is fully loaded. Make sure that your script is ran after the DOM is present in the page. This can be accomplished using either the DOMReady event ($(document).ready equivalent without jQuery) or simply making sure your script tag is the last element before the closing body tag. (I usually prefer the former)
When you utilize document.getElementsByClassName('container') (https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Document/getElementsByClassName) this method returns an array therefore you would either need to apply the operation to all elements of the result or just select the zero-th as document.getElementsByClassName('container')[0]. As an alternative, if you would like to be more explicit you could also place an id on the container element instead to more explicitly state which element you would like to retrieve. Then, you would simply use document.getElementById([id]) (https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Document/getElementById) and this would get back a single element not a collection.
The result of prompt is a string. Therefore you would have to first parse it as an integer with parseInt(result, 10) where 10 is simply the radix or more simply you want a number that is from 0-10.
You should include jquery library before your script, it`s important
<script src="jQuery.js"></script>
<script src="javascript.js"></script>
I have the code that actually works:
<script type="text/javascript">//<![CDATA[
function MoveContent() {
var srcObj = document.getElementById("src");
var destObj = document.getElementById("dest");
destObj.value = srcObj.innerHTML;
}
//]]>
</script>
But I need to move content from 2 divs which isn't possible using this code.
I don't know JavaScript, so what should I add tho this code?
Sorry for bad English, thanks in advance
I suggest you use jQuery library. Have you heard of it?
http://jquery.com/
Simple code to accomplish your goal:
var srcHtml = $('#src').html();
$('#dest').html(srcHtml);
Use:
destObj.innerHTML = srcObj.innerHTML;
value is the value of an input element, innerHTML is the content of a DIV or other element.
Assuming Both are div's rewrite the following line
destObj.value = srcObj.innerHTML;
as
destObj.innerHTML= srcObj.innerHTML;
Since div is not having an attribute value you cannot copy the content to the destination div using value.
Like you get value from one div using
var srcObj = document.getElementById("src");
get another variable like srcObj2 and store the next div. Concatenate values of two variables and set it to the destObj
I need your help at a problem of my Wordpress Webpage. My Wordpress-page is an Single-Page-App with 3 different boxes of content. The left and center boxes are static, the right one changes its content by clicking on links of the other boxes. I decided, to load all the content in the right box and show them with the CSS-command visibility. With a combination of pathJS and JS, i want the URL to change by clicking on the links. So far so good - all works fine, but i dont get managed via my JS-Function to remove the shown-class.
My script looks like this:
<script>
function showDetailContent(showid) {
//suche objekt right_id -> was du zeigen willst -> getelementbyid
alert("1");
var id = document.getElementsByClassName('shown');
alert("2");
id.classList.remove('shown');
alert("3");
document.getElementByID("right_" + showid).classList.add('shown');
alert("4");
}
//var c = document.getElementById('content'); -->do the function :)
Path.map("#/?p=<?php the_id();?>").to(function () {
showDetailContent(<?php the_id();?>);
});
Path.listen();
</script>
The alerts are just my way of "debugging". I think its not the best way to debugg, but i am very new in the world of prorgamming and this is kind of easy.
However, the first two alerts are shown, if i activate a link. So the (first) mistake is on the line
id.classList.remove('shown');
Normally, the right-box is hidden, so that only one content is load.
Do you understand my problem till here?
I would appreciate fast help!
Greetings, Yannic! :)
Look at this : http://snipplr.com/view/3561/ to know remove class pure javascript
getElementsByClassName gets multiple elements, try:
var id = document.getElementsByClassName('shown')[0];
Or iterate through them if you want to remove class from all elements with class shown;
Im new to js kindly help me! im using functionality to add text boxes dynamically im done with that part now i want make a js function that removes text boxes on a click on remove button. any help ?
You can use bellow JavaScript function to Remove elements.
function removeElement(divNum) {
var d = document.getElementById('myDiv');
var olddiv = document.getElementById(divNum);
d.removeChild(olddiv);
}
If you have more information you can visit here.
You can either remove a child with
document.getElementById(n).removeChild(thebox);
or you can do as on this thread Remove <p class="classname"> in Javascript? (not recommanded for your case)
Finally, you can use jquery (famous library) with the function $("#id_of_element").remove(); (best and easiest solution)
