I have the following HTML multi-select code:
<select class="multi-select" multiple="multiple" id="multiSelectId">
And am trying to dynamically add elements into it using ajax:
function TestFunction(value) {
const selectMembers = $("#multiSelectId");
selectMembers.empty();
selectMembers.append('<option value="val">test1</option>');
$.ajax({
url: '#Url.Action("GetMemberById", "SystemAdmin")',
data: {
'memberId': value
},
success: function(data) {
selectMembers.append('<option value="val">test2</option>');
alert("test3");
}
});
selectMembers.multiSelect('refresh');
}
So the weird thing is, that test1 and test3 are working fine, whereas test2 doesn't work at all and I can't find why it doesn't work. Does anybody has an idea?
You need to refresh in the success callback handler. Remember ajax() is asynchronous.
function TestFunction(value) {
const selectMembers = $("#multiSelectId");
selectMembers.empty();
selectMembers.append('<option value="val">test1</option>');
$.ajax({
url: '#Url.Action("GetMemberById", "SystemAdmin")',
data: {
'memberId': value
},
success: function(data) {
selectMembers.append('<option value="val">test2</option>');
selectMembers.multiSelect('refresh');
alert("test3");
}
});
}

I have class :
public JsonResult refreshMap(int time)
{
// Some code before
List<User> lista = new List<User>();
lista.Add(usr11);
lista.Add(usr22);
return Json(lista, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet);
}
And view :
<div id="PersonList"></div>
<input type="radio" name="time" value="5">Last 5min
<input type="radio" name="time" value="15">Last 15min
And the attached JS :
$(document).ready(function () {
$(':radio[name="time"]').change(function () {
$.ajax({
url: '/Connection/refreshMap',
cache: false,
dataType: "JSON",
data: {
time: $(':radio[name="time"]:checked').val()
},
success: function (data) {
$.each(data, function (index, value) {
$("#PersonList").append(value.Email);
});
}
});
return false;
});
});
And I want do this : when i checked radio I use method and I get data from controller and I want display this collection. But my function in ajax doesn't work. But when I return in method refreshMap only one object: [...] return Json(usr11, JsonRequestBehavior.AllowGet);
And if I change my ajax function like below, this work !
$(document).ready(function () {
$(':radio[name="time"]').change(function () {
$.ajax({
url: '/Connection/refreshMap',
cache: false,
dataType: "JSON",
data: { time: $(':radio[name="time"]:checked').val() },
success: function (data) {
$("#PersonList").append(data.Email +"</br>");
}
});
return false;
});
});
Have you idea what I can repair it?
data comes wrapped in 'd', by using $each you seem to enter the data object but in the second one it does not 'project' the values.
i usually do if(data.d){...} just to make sure the data will not shortcircuit my code, or the absence of it to be concrete.
Will also look at what type is 'Email' and how it serialised.
I use Select2-4.0.0 I have been struggling with this problem for a whole day that to update the data.
I search every posts I can like Update select2 data without rebuilding the control, but none have them work.
What I need is really simple (a setter to data):
I have a diaglog, which had a select. Every time I open the diaglog, I will ajax for an data to keep it in a local array like:
when dialog open :
var select2List=syncToLoadTheData();//data for select2
$('#search-user-select').select2({ //here when secondly executed, the select2's data on UI does not refreshed
data:select2List,
matcher: function(params, data){
var key = params.term;
if ($.trim(key) === '') {
return data;
}
if( (matchKeyAndPinyin(key,data.text))){
return data;
}
return null;
}
}
But the problem is even though the list is changing, the select options does not change at all.Please note in my test case, every time i open the dialog, the data from server is changed:
What I had tried:
1.when init:
data: function() { return {results: select2List}; }// not work to show any data at all
2.when secondly open dialog:
$( "#search-user-select").select2('data',newdata,true);//not work to have the new data
3.when secondly open:
$("#search-user-select").select2("updateResults");//Error, does not have this method
And some other method like directly change the array's data(only one copy of the data), but none of them work.
I had the same problem before, my problem was i need to update the select2 after every ajax request with new data.
and this how i fixed my code.
EventId = $(this).attr('id');
$.ajax({
url: 'AjaxGetAllEventPerons',
type: 'POST',
dataType: 'json',
data: {id: EventId},
})
.done(function(data) {
$("#select2_job").select2({
minimumInputLength: 2,
multiple:true,
initSelection : function (element, callback) {
//var data = data;
callback(data);
},
ajax: {
url: "/AjaxGetAllPersonForEvent",
dataType: 'json',
quietMillis: 100,
data: function (term) {
return {
term: term
};
},
results: function (data) {
var myResults = [];
$.each(data, function (index, item) {
myResults.push({
'id': item.id,
'text': item.fullname
});
});
return {
results: myResults
};
}
}
});
I hope this example will help you to solve your problem
I'm trying to get the remote using json from one php page,the JSON data:
[{"id":"0","name":"ABC"},{"id":"1","name":"DEF I"},{"id":"2","name":"GHI"}]
and the script is like this:
$(document).ready(function() {
$('#test').select2({
minimumInputLength: 1,
placeholder: 'Search',
ajax: {
dataType: "json",
url: "subject/data_json.php",
data: function (term, page) {// page is the one-based page number tracked by Select2
return {
college: "ABC", //search term
term: term
};
},
type: 'GET',
results: function (data) {
return {results: data};
}
},
formatResult: function(data) {
return "<div class='select2-user-result'>" + data.name + "</div>";
},
formatSelection: function(data) {
return data.name;
},
initSelection : function (element, callback) {
var elementText = $(element).attr('data-init-text');
callback({"name":elementText});
}
});
});
It works fine but it always reads the database whenever I typed one new character to search
. So i decided to use the another way (retrieve all data at first time and use select2 to search it):
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#test").select2({
createSearchChoice:function(term, data) {
if ($(data).filter(function() {
return this.text.localeCompare(term)===0; }).length===0) {
return {id:term, text:term};}
},
multiple: false,
data: [{"id":"0","text":"ABC"},{"id":"1","text":"DEF I"},{"id":"2","text":"GHI"}]
});
});
But the problem is how can I pass a request to data_json.php and retrieve data from it?
Say
data: $.ajax({
url: "subject/data_json.php",
data: function (term, page) {// page is the one-based page number tracked by Select2
return {
college: "ABC", //search term
};
}
dataType: "json",
success: function(data){
return data
}
}
But its not working, can anyone help?
Thanks
Why did you move away from your original code?
minimumInputLength: 1
Increase this and the search won't be called on the first character typed. Setting it to 3 for example will ensure the ajax call isn't made (and the database therefore not queried) until after the 3rd character is entered.
if I understood your question correctly you have data_json.php generating the options for select2 and you would like to load all of them once instead of having select2 run an ajax query each time the user inputs one or more characters in the search.
This is how I solved it in a similar case.
HTML:
<span id="mySelect"></span>
Javascript:
$(document).ready(function () {
$.ajax('/path/to/data_json.php', {
error: function (xhr, status, error) {
console.log(error);
},
success: function (response, status, xhr) {
$("#mySelect").select2({
data: response
});
}
});
});
I've found that the above does not work if you create a <select> element instead of a <span>.
I have a link:
<a class="tag" wi_id="3042" wl_id="3693" for_user_id="441" href="#a">
which triggers an ajax call
$(".tag").click(function() {
var for_user_id = $(this).attr("for_user_id");
var wl_id = $(this).attr("wl_id");
var wi_id = $(this).attr("wi_id");
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "/ajax/actions/tag.php",
data: {
'for_user_id': 'for_user_id',
'wl_id': 'wl_id',
'wi_id': 'wi_id'
},
success: function(data){
$(this).text("You've tagged this");
$(this).closest('.gl_buttons_holder').toggleClass('gl_buttons_holder gl_buttons_holder_tagged');
$(this).closest('.gl_buttons').addClass('tagged');
}
});
return false;
});
But in the console I see the following:
TypeError: e is undefined
The ajax file gets processed but the POST data is blank, and the success actions do not happen, so it gets posted with zeros and classes are not changed
I have stared and stared... anything obvious?
this is not passed automatically to the AJAX callback function. You can use the context: parameter to tell jQuery to pass it:
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "/ajax/actions/tag.php",
data: {
'for_user_id': for_user_id,
'wl_id': wl_id,
'wi_id': wi_id
},
context: this,
success: function(data){
$(this).text("You've tagged this");
$(this).closest('.gl_buttons_holder').toggleClass('gl_buttons_holder gl_buttons_holder_tagged');
$(this).closest('.gl_buttons').addClass('tagged');
}
});
You're sending your data wrong, don't call your variables inside single quotes.
$(".tag").click(function() {
var for_user_id = $(this).attr("for_user_id");
var wl_id = $(this).attr("wl_id");
var wi_id = $(this).attr("wi_id");
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "/ajax/actions/tag.php",
data: {
'for_user_id': for_user_id,
'wl_id': wl_id,
'wi_id': wi_id
},
success: function(data){
$(this).text("You've tagged this");
$(this).closest('.gl_buttons_holder').toggleClass('gl_buttons_holder gl_buttons_holder_tagged');
$(this).closest('.gl_buttons').addClass('tagged');
}
});
return false;
});
I have an MVC application with a controller named Angular (I use AngularJS as well), which has an action called GetQuestion. That action returns a JsonResult which looks like this (grabbed from Chrome):
{"game":{"Title":"Diablo III","ImgPaths":["d31.jpg","d32.jpg"]},"Answers":["Diablo III","World of Tanks","Need for Speed"]}
My JS function is like this:
var request = $.ajax({
url: "/Angular/GetQuestion",
dataType: "json",
type: "post",
success: (function (data) { alert(data); })
});
But instead of the Json I wrote above, alert window only says [object Object]
Update
Ok, that was fixed, thaks. However as you may suspect, my goal is not to present this data in alert box, but use it somehow. So here's my controller in Angular
function QuestionCtrl($scope) {
var request = $.ajax({
url: "/Angular/GetQuestion",
dataType: "json",
type: "post",
success: function (data) {
$scope.answers = JSON.stringify(data.Answers);
$scope.imgPath = JSON.stringify(data.game.ImgPaths[0]);
}
});
}
And then the view:
<div ng-controller="QuestionCtrl">
<img class="quizImage" src="~/Gallery/{{imgPath}}"/>
#using (Html.BeginForm("Answer", "Angular", FormMethod.Post))
{
<p ng-repeat="answer in answers"><input type="radio" name="game" value="{{answer}}"/> {{answer}}</p>
<p><input type="submit" value="Answer"/></p>
}
</div>
And I don't have neither image or the questions. If I hardcode them in controller then it's ok.
An alert will show that, i would suggest using console.log(data)
var request = $.ajax({
url: "/Angular/GetQuestion",
dataType: "json",
type: "post",
success: (function (data) { console.log(data); })
});
or as the comments states:
var request = $.ajax({
url: "/Angular/GetQuestion",
dataType: "json",
type: "post",
success: (function (data) { alert(JSON.stringify(data)); })
});
I resolved my second problem like this:
function QuestionCtrl($scope, $http) {
$http.post('/Angular/GetQuestion',null).success(function(data) {
$scope.answers = data.Answers;
$scope.imgPath = data.game.ImgPaths[0];
//console.log($scope.answers);
//console.log($scope.imgPath);
});
}
Note that it's AngularJS.
The reason it's happening is because JSON is an Object in JavaScript. When you type
alert(data);
It will attempt to cast the object to a string which in this case will only output that fact that it's an Object.
To view the contents of an object you can write a simple function to use with an alert or console.log.
function outputProperties(anObject) {
var props = '';
for (var prop in anObject) {
props += '\n' + prop + ' value: ' + anObject[prop];
}
return props;
}
And use it like this
alert(outputProperties(data));
For starters... when ever you are dynamically building the src url for an image (using the {{expression}} syntax from Angular) you need to not use the "src" attribute and use the "ng-src" angular directive. It allows angular time to process your url before the image is loaded.
