Can someone help me solve this problem..
I'm trying to set Chartist pie chart data dynamically. I have a list of projects I'm displaying in a list. Each project has a chart with some information about the project like funding etc. When I try setting the "value" of my chartData, it refuses to detect my values as numbers. Below is an example:
//Chartist data object
fundingData: {
series: [{
value: 0,
name: 'public funding',
className: 'some-class'
}, {
value: 0,
name: 'private funding',
}]
}
//param: project is an object I'm passing
setChartData(project) {
let x = Math.round(project.pro_amount); //
console.log(x); // This prints the amount
this.fundingData.series[0].value = x; // doesn't get assigned
this.fundingData.series[0].value = 12; // gets assigned
}
What am I doing wrong?.. hope my problem is clear enough
Probably all is good, but Chartist isn't reactive. You must call update function after assign:

What i am trying to do is i want to display a chart based on my dynamic data i used Angular ForEach to loop through all my objects array see my code below:
var parse = JSON.parse(jsondata);
angular.forEach(parse, function (value, key) {
var dataSet = anychart.data.set(value);
var chart = anychart.column();
var series = chart.column(value);
chart.title("Data Sets: Array of Objects");
chart.container("container");
chart.draw();
});
it correctly display the count of my chart but the data of each object array is not showing up see picture below
but if put a static data like this :
var data = [
{x:"January", value: 12000},
{x:"February", value: 15000},
{x:"March", value: 16000},
{x:"April", value: 14000},
{x:"May", value: 10000}
];
the chart displays correctly.
can anyone help me with this ? any help will greatly appreciated.
Everything depends on the value content inside the loop. You are applying the value to the series and dataSet as well.
If you are using dataSet, you should apply the value to the dataSet, map the data, then apply the mapping to the series. Like this:
var dataSet = anychart.data.set(value);
var mapping = dataSet.mapAs({'x': 0, 'value': 1}); // for example
var chart = anychart.column();
var series = chart.column(dataSet);
The mapping depends on your data. If the value includes ready-to-use data that matches the default mapping you can apply it directly to the series.
Can you share the value content?
The chart can work with dynamic data. All you need is to apply new data to the existing dataSet, like this:
dataSet.data(newData);
And that's it! There's no need to recreate chart/series/dataSet.
This is in continued to my question here
I was having a lot of problems in creating highcharts basic charts using CSV data from my local filesystem without using a server/framework and just basic HTML/CSS/JS etc
So, finally, I got an idea to create a chart inside "d3.csv" function wherein we can add highchart functions insdie d3.csv ones
But, there seems to be something very silly wrong, I'm trying with a very basic code and table.
HTML code has only container div element,
Javascript
d3.csv("test.csv", function(data) {
data.forEach(function(d) {
name = d.name,
apples = +d.apples
});
console.log(data[2]);
dataset = data;
//display();
console.log(dataset[0]);
console.log(dataset[0].name);
function push(a)
{
var filter = [];
for (i=0; i<a.length ; i++)
{
filter.push(a[i].apples);
//console.log (filter);
}
return filter;
}
window.apples = push(dataset);
console.log(apples);
$(function () {
$('#container').highcharts({
chart: {
type : 'bar'
},
title: {
text: 'Fruit Consumption'
},
xAxis: {
categories: [dataset[0].name, dataset[1].name]
},
yAxis: {
title: {
text: 'Fruit eaten'
}
},
series: [{
data: apples
}
]
});
})
});
test.csv :
name,apples
John,8
Jane,3
My console is showing "apples" correctly as [8,3]. I'm getting an empty graph on screen with only axes shown and nothing inside and also, x axis and y axis elements are interchanged.
What am I doing wrong here? Is the global variable - apples, not being accessed inside highcharts fucntions?
UPDATE :
Found the answer, but only one number is showing up.
I have 2 more questions :
How do I show the whole series?
Is this a good method to draw highcharts or will I face many issues later?
Found the solution to this, myself, for a change.
Highcharts will expect function to be parsed in their format ( Highcharts error 14 in console)
Changed my function above to this,
for (i=0; i<a.length ; i++)
{
x = a[i].apples;
y = parseFloat(x)
filter.push(y);
}
return filter;
}
window.apples = push(dataset);
And the series part to this :
series: [{
data : [apples]
}
]
This is finally, giving me a graph with one bar (John, 8) now!!
The second number is still not being loaded, if someone wants to help with that, please comment below.
Update :
changed
data : [apples] -> data: apples (Correct format)

I am making a diagram that should show states in a timeline like diagram. I figured that the best fit for it would be horizontal bar diagram, I added data like this:
series: [{
data: [?],
name: 'state1'
}, {
data: [?],
name: 'state2'
}, {
data: [?],
name: 'state3'
}, {
data: [?],
name: 'state1'
}, {
....
}, {
data: [?],
name: 'state1'
}]
Here's what I'v got:
The chart looks like what I need, but I need to somehow group legends, for example this case there should be only 3 legends: state1, state2, state3.
How can I achieve something like this?
I would suggest a different approach, using the column range series type.
This way you can do this with only three series, with a data point for each time slot, rather than a series for each time slot. This saves from having to manipulate the legend or fake other series level actions.
This is an example I did for an earlier question that demonstrates the method (with only two states):
http://jsfiddle.net/jlbriggs/o9ck2zLn/0/
can easily be adapted to use a datetime axis as well, which it seems you might be going for.
Basing on the answer of #StAlex, I would recommend a similar solution, but without the ECMAScript 5 specific forEach:
var legend = {};
for (var i = 0; i < series.length; i++) {
var bar = series[i];
if (!legend[bar.name]) {
legend[bar.name] = 0;
}
legend[bar.name] += bar.data;
}
I assumed that data is a number. If this is not so, add a comment.
var legends = {};
series.forEach(function(bar){
legends[bar.name] = bar.data;
});
I got an Kendo ui Bar Chart which is filled with an dynamic array.
One time its filled with 12 items and one time its filled with only 1 item.
Now the Bars automatically resizes, when only one item is in the array, the Bar is super big. I know, that there is no "max-width" or "width" property in the configuration.
Is there a workaround for my problem? I.E. dynamic calculation of the gap/space or whatever property? Or even with css or so?
Here is an simple fiddle
var dataset = [1,2,3,3,5,6,8];
var dataOnlyOne = [10]
//gap:0.2
// gap: function(){
return width/12*... // works not
}
Its been a while, and you probably moved on, but I was searching for something similar...
Your problem could be resolved using the below code, where the gap is calculated from the number of items in the data array:
$(function() {
var data = [1,2,3,3,5,6,8,2,3,3,5,6,8];
// var data = [10];
var gap = 8/data.length
$('#chart').kendoChart({
seriesDefaults: {
type: 'column',
stack: true,
},
series: [
{
name: 'dataset',
data: data, // dataOnlyOne
color: 'blue',
gap:gap
}
]
})
});
I want to add a series to a highchart scatterplot where I am naming each point in the series. I create a chart in the following way:
var chart; // globally available
makeCharts = function(){
chart = new Highcharts.Chart({
chart: {
renderTo: 'container1',
type: 'scatter'
},
series: [{
name: 'a',
data: [{
'id': 'point1',
'x': 1,
'y': 2
}, {
'id': 'point2',
'x': 2,
'y': 5
}]
}]
});
}
I would like to be able to update the points on the chart using something like:
chart.series[0].setData([{id:['point3', 'point4', 'point5'], y:[0,1,2], x:[1,2,3]}])
but this is not correct. Is it possible to update a chart using this approach where each point has an ID?
EDIT:
Just to clarify, I would like to be able to pass the arrays directly, rather than adding the data point by point using addPoint(). I could loop through an array and use addPoint() doing something like this:
id:['point3', 'point4', 'point5'];
y:[0,1,2];
x:[1,2,3];
for (i=0; i<x.length; i++)
{
chart.series[0].addPoint({
x: x[[i],
y: y[i],
id: id[i]
});
}
However, this is very slow. It's much quicker to add data using the following approach:
chart.series[0].setData([[1,0],[2,1],[3,2]]);
I have found that I can add data like this:
chart.series[0].setData([[1,0, 'point3'],[2,1, 'point4'],[3,2, 'point5']]);
but then the only way that I can access the id when the point is selected, is through this.point.config[2]. With the following approach I am unable to use chart.get('pointID') to identify a point as I did not set the ID. I want to be able to identify the point using just the ID.
Well broadly speaking there are two ways in which you can modify the chart data dynamically
Series.setData() Use this approach when you want to completely replace the existing data with some new data
Series.addPoint() Use this approach when you want to add a subset of the points dynamically. This method is not just for adding one point at a time, if you read the documentation carefully again you will find that this method takes a boolean redraw argument, and the argument detail is as following
redraw: Boolean
Defaults to true. Whether to redraw the chart after
the point is added. When adding more than one point, it is highly
recommended that the redraw option beset to false, and instead
chart.redraw() is explicitly called after the adding of points is
finished.
In your case, since you want to add a few points dynamically, but retaining the existing points, you should go with approach 2. But you need to use it inside a loop, with the redraw being set to false (hence solving the problem of being slow) and then after the loop, call the redraw method explicitly
Code
var id = ['point3', 'point4', 'point5'],
y = [0, 1, 2],
x = [1, 2, 3];
for (var i = 0; i < x.length; i++) {
chart.series[0].addPoint({
x: x[i],
y: y[i],
id: id[i]
},false);
}
chart.redraw();
Adding multiple points dynamically | Highcharts and Highstock # jsFiddle
Try using series.addPoint.
chart.series[0].addPoint({
x: 0,
y: 0,
id: 'anything'
});
But if you need to set data for series, use
chart.series[0].setData([{
x: 0,
y: 0,
id: 'anything'
},{
x: 2,
y: 2,
id: 'another'
}]);
As soon as you can pass your data like this:
chart.series[0].setData([[1,0, 'point3'],[2,1, 'point4'],[3,2, 'point5']]);
(as you stated in question), I can suggest you to use a little hack.
We'll need to add another statement to method applyOptions of Highcharts.Point prototype.
if (typeof options[0] === 'number' && options[2] && typeof options[2] === 'string') this.id = options[2];
Here you can see it in action.
