I got an Kendo ui Bar Chart which is filled with an dynamic array.
One time its filled with 12 items and one time its filled with only 1 item.
Now the Bars automatically resizes, when only one item is in the array, the Bar is super big. I know, that there is no "max-width" or "width" property in the configuration.
Is there a workaround for my problem? I.E. dynamic calculation of the gap/space or whatever property? Or even with css or so?
Here is an simple fiddle
var dataset = [1,2,3,3,5,6,8];
var dataOnlyOne = [10]
//gap:0.2
// gap: function(){
return width/12*... // works not
}
Its been a while, and you probably moved on, but I was searching for something similar...
Your problem could be resolved using the below code, where the gap is calculated from the number of items in the data array:
$(function() {
var data = [1,2,3,3,5,6,8,2,3,3,5,6,8];
// var data = [10];
var gap = 8/data.length
$('#chart').kendoChart({
seriesDefaults: {
type: 'column',
stack: true,
},
series: [
{
name: 'dataset',
data: data, // dataOnlyOne
color: 'blue',
gap:gap
}
]
})
});

I am using a WebSocket connection to update a candlestick chart with live data.
Creating the initial candlestick chart is relatively easy:
var candleDiv = document.getElementById('candle-chart');
var data = {
x: x, //Each of these is a single dimension array of the same length
open: open,
close: close,
high: high,
low: low,
type: 'candlestick',
};
var layout = {
datarevision: candleCount,
dragmode: 'zoom',
showlegend: false,
xaxis: {
type: 'date',
range: [x[x.length - 26], x[x.length - 1]], //Only show the last 25 entries so it's not zoomed out too far.
rangeslider: {
visible: false
},
yaxis: {
autorange: true,
}
}
}
data.xaxis = 'x';
data.yaxis = 'y';
data = [data];
Plotly.plot(candleDiv, data, layout);
However, the documentation for the restyle method doesn't talk much to the update of data. More about how the data is displayed. After much tinkering, I found a reasonable workaround of updating the data variable directly:
candleDiv.data[0].open[candleDiv.data[0].open.length - 1] = updatedOpenValue;
candleDiv.data[0].close[candleDiv.data[0].close.length - 1] = updatedCloseValue;
candleDiv.data[0].high[candleDiv.data[0].high.length - 1] = updatedHighValue;
candleDiv.data[0].low[candleDiv.data[0].low.length - 1] = updatedLowValue;
Plotly.restyle(candleDiv, 'data[0]', candleDiv.data[0], [0]);
This works, except that it appears to draw the new candle on the old candle. This becomes particularly distracting when the stick changes from a green (increasing) stick to a red (decreasing) stick.
Is there a correct syntax to achieve what I am attempting to do such that I don't get display issues?
I checked out this link from this post but I couldn't get the method used to work in the context of a candlestick chart.
You may want to look at the Plotly.react method instead of Plotly.restyle: https://plot.ly/javascript/plotlyjs-function-reference/#plotlyreact
Can someone help me solve this problem..
I'm trying to set Chartist pie chart data dynamically. I have a list of projects I'm displaying in a list. Each project has a chart with some information about the project like funding etc. When I try setting the "value" of my chartData, it refuses to detect my values as numbers. Below is an example:
//Chartist data object
fundingData: {
series: [{
value: 0,
name: 'public funding',
className: 'some-class'
}, {
value: 0,
name: 'private funding',
}]
}
//param: project is an object I'm passing
setChartData(project) {
let x = Math.round(project.pro_amount); //
console.log(x); // This prints the amount
this.fundingData.series[0].value = x; // doesn't get assigned
this.fundingData.series[0].value = 12; // gets assigned
}
What am I doing wrong?.. hope my problem is clear enough
Probably all is good, but Chartist isn't reactive. You must call update function after assign:
https://gionkunz.github.io/chartist-js/api-documentation.html#chartistbase-function-update
In this jsfiddle the chart has a nice zoom effect every time the visiblity of a series is toggled.
But when I add the UpperLimit series this effect is lost because that series has the lowest and highest x-values.
How can I make the chart zoom in on the series of my choice and keep other series from affecting zoom boundaries?
{
name: 'UpperLimit',
color: '#FF0000',
dashStyle: 'ShortDash',
showInLegend: false,
//affectsZoomBox: false, //No such thing :(
data: [
[1, 100],
[10, 100]
]
},
I don't think it is possible using configuration of the series. However, if you are willing to hack a bit it will be possible to exclude one or more series from the calculation of axis extremes:
chart.xAxis[0].oldGetSeriesExtremes = chart.xAxis[0].getSeriesExtremes;
chart.xAxis[0].getSeriesExtremes = function() {
var axis = this;
var originalSeries = axis.series;
var series = [];
for (var i = 0; i < originalSeries.length; i++) {
// Filter out the series you don't want to include in the calculation
if (originalSeries[i].name != 'UpperLimit') {
series.push(originalSeries[i]);
}
}
axis.series = series;
axis.oldGetSeriesExtremes();
axis.series = originalSeries;
}
The code shows how to overwrite the getSeriesExtremes function on the axis object. The method is replaced with a wrapper that removes the series that should be excluded, then calls the original function and then restores the original series to the axis.
This is clearly a hack. However, it works on my machine...
This is in continued to my question here
I was having a lot of problems in creating highcharts basic charts using CSV data from my local filesystem without using a server/framework and just basic HTML/CSS/JS etc
So, finally, I got an idea to create a chart inside "d3.csv" function wherein we can add highchart functions insdie d3.csv ones
But, there seems to be something very silly wrong, I'm trying with a very basic code and table.
HTML code has only container div element,
Javascript
d3.csv("test.csv", function(data) {
data.forEach(function(d) {
name = d.name,
apples = +d.apples
});
console.log(data[2]);
dataset = data;
//display();
console.log(dataset[0]);
console.log(dataset[0].name);
function push(a)
{
var filter = [];
for (i=0; i<a.length ; i++)
{
filter.push(a[i].apples);
//console.log (filter);
}
return filter;
}
window.apples = push(dataset);
console.log(apples);
$(function () {
$('#container').highcharts({
chart: {
type : 'bar'
},
title: {
text: 'Fruit Consumption'
},
xAxis: {
categories: [dataset[0].name, dataset[1].name]
},
yAxis: {
title: {
text: 'Fruit eaten'
}
},
series: [{
data: apples
}
]
});
})
});
test.csv :
name,apples
John,8
Jane,3
My console is showing "apples" correctly as [8,3]. I'm getting an empty graph on screen with only axes shown and nothing inside and also, x axis and y axis elements are interchanged.
What am I doing wrong here? Is the global variable - apples, not being accessed inside highcharts fucntions?
UPDATE :
Found the answer, but only one number is showing up.
I have 2 more questions :
How do I show the whole series?
Is this a good method to draw highcharts or will I face many issues later?
Found the solution to this, myself, for a change.
Highcharts will expect function to be parsed in their format ( Highcharts error 14 in console)
Changed my function above to this,
for (i=0; i<a.length ; i++)
{
x = a[i].apples;
y = parseFloat(x)
filter.push(y);
}
return filter;
}
window.apples = push(dataset);
And the series part to this :
series: [{
data : [apples]
}
]
This is finally, giving me a graph with one bar (John, 8) now!!
The second number is still not being loaded, if someone wants to help with that, please comment below.
Update :
changed
data : [apples] -> data: apples (Correct format)

I wanted to plot 2 data series.
The first one is a dynamic series of events which has time and height (water level).
The second is a maximum height from t=0 till indef.
I want the first data series with points and the second without points (since it is just a warning line).
So far i tried the following:
pl_data[0].data = plot_data;
pl_data[1].data = plot_maxHeightCoords;
var pl_options = { series: {
lines: { show: true },
points: { show:[true,false] }
}
};
$.plot("#placeholder_flot", pl_data, pl_options);
and this:
pl_options.points:[true,false];
This however wont work. It worked for colors so i figured it should for points too.
I read the documentation but could not find a hint to fix this.
Thank you for any help!
Not sure I'm following your question but I think you want to configure each series separately and not within your plot options.
If the objects are already created:
pl_data[0].data = plot_data;
pl_data[1].data = plot_maxHeightCoords;
pl_data[0].points = {};
pl_data[0].points.show = true;
pl_data[1].points = {};
pl_data[1].points.show = false;
Or recreate the data object:
var pl_data = [ {data: plot_data, points: {show: true}, lines: {show: true}},
{data: plot_maxHeightCoords, points: {show: false}, lines: {show: true}} ];
$.plot("#placeholder_flot", pl_data, {});
This is discussed under the data format section of the documentation.
