I find Option 1 to be more readable - but Option 1 becomes too verbose once your function needs a lot of variables.
Your two examples differ in the scope.
Your first example, the inner function have the parent function scope, and it will be not accessible outside.
Your second example have the parent object scope, but you can access outside with the object instance:

First of all, performance depends on browser and user PC ofc.
Both examples are almost the same.
First one can be faster, because you have direct reference on the object.
In other words, the less you use '.' the better performance you get.

but you will not notice the difference :)

In want to define a function-constructor inside a namespace. The way in which I defined the constructor till now was a simple constructor function without NS, combined with prototypal inheritance.
The code looked kind of like:

"Private properties" have nothing to do with using an object for namespacing. In fact, originally when answering this question, I read that as "private functions" because that would be relevant.
There are lots of ways to do private and semi-private properties in JavaScript, but they relate to how you create the constructor function and the methods it gives the object, not how you expose the constructor function. "Namespace" objects are about how you expose the constructor.
One common pattern for creating "private" properties is to define methods that need to access them within the constructor, and make the "properties" local variables within the constructor (so they aren't really properties at all), like this:

It doesn't matter at all if you do that within a "namespacing" pattern or on its own.

Using objects as pseudo-namespaces is common practice. You might also consider various asynchronous module definition (AMD) technologies, which largely make "namespace" objects largely unnecessary.

No, we don't need any parens that aren't there because the only reason for the outer parens other places you've seen this are to tell the parser that the word function starts an expression rather than declaration; we don't need that in the above because we're already on the right-hand side of an assignment, so there's no ambiguity when function is encountered.

"Better" is a subjective term. It gives you a scope in which you can define private functions, which you'd asked about.

If you have several files that will add things to the "namespace" (as is common), then you frequently see this in each of them:
var TheNamespace = TheNamespace || {};
What that does is declare the variable if it hasn't been declared before, and assign an empty object to it if it doesn't already have one. In the first file that gets loaded, this happens:
The var is processed and creates a new variable, TheNamespace, with the value undefined.
The TheNameSpace = TheNameSpace || {} assignment is processed: Since undefined is falsey, the curiously-powerful || operator results in the new {}, which gets assigned to TheNamespace.
When the next file loads, this happens:
The var is a no-op, because the variable already exists.
The TheNameSpace = TheNameSpace || {} assignment is processed: Since TheNamespace has a non-null object reference, it's truthy, and the curiously-powerful || operator results in a reference to the object TheNamespace refers to.
That is, it has no effect at all.
This is used so you can load the files in any order, or load just one file in isolation.

The other answers aren't explaining what's going on, and as such are giving incorrect advice.
JavaScript has first-class function objects - you can pass them around as values. That's exactly what you're doing when you set up this callback:
this.preview.addEventListener('click', this.click, false);
You're taking the contents of the this.click property, which happens to be a function, and handing it to the addEventListener function to do whatever it wants with it.
I was very specific about terminology there - note I specifically said function, not method. JavaScript doesn't really have a method construct, it just has methods as properties on an object.
So where does the "this" member come from? It's determined at the caller - the object you use on the left side of the '.' is the one that becomes the value of this. For example,

Note I've assigned the exact same function to the doSomething properties. What what happens:

The exact same function object, called through two different objects, has a different this pointer.
exampleFunc is a global function, let's call it:
exampleFunc() // Outputs "this.myName = undefined"
So where'd the undefined come from? In a global function, "this" is set to window (the global scope), which didn't have the myName property defined. Which also means that you could do this instead:

exampleFunc(); // Outputs "this.myName = Global Name"
Ok, so what's going on with the original question? Basically, you've passed the function this.click to be the callback, but you haven't passed the "this" pointer that you want it called through. Actually, addEventListener doesn't have a way to pass the this pointer. As a result, when the function is invoked this is not pointing at your object. I don't remember off the top of my head what it's pointing at - it's either window or the element that was clicked on, check the DOM documentation to verify.
To get it to call the right function with the right context (context = the correct "this"), the traditional approach is to use a closure. Capture "this" in a variable, then pass in an anonymous function that calls your actual callback with the right this pointer. The code looks like this:

This is a common enough pattern that ECMAScript 5 has a utility function to build these wrappers for you - function.bind. Do this:

The construct this.click.bind(this) will construct a new function that, when called, will set the "this" reference to whatever you passed (in this case "this"), and then invoke the function you called it on.
Yes, there are a lot of different values for "this" floating around. Keeping track of what "this" is pointing at is an important part of mastering JavaScript programming.
I think you may want to define a global JavaScript variable as :

or jest define var myForm; and initialize inside function (el, options) as:
myForm = d.getElementById('perview-form');
Now you can use this variable in your function as :

EDIT: I believe you may define this variable as first line in your WinJS.Class.define to make it instance level variable as below:

This is a really hard thing to research if you don't know what to look for. I added one line and changed another line. That should fix your issue.
In short, the keyword this gets reset every time you enter a new function, this the value of this inside your click function is not the same this of the outer scope. Preserve this this you want. The name of that seems fairly common.

The solutions seem just a little too obvious, so I'm wondering if the trouble is that you don't have access to the original code, and you need a more dynamic solution.
If so, one option may be to override the constructor with your own constructor, and have it call the original, and then update the object.
Original code:

Now you're getting the benefit of the original constructor and prototype chain, but you're injecting your own function on to the objects being created.
Only trouble may be that the original function you replaced could make special use of the original constructor's variable scope. If that's the case, there would be an issue to resolve.
It would be possible to retain and invoke the original method that you overwrote before invoking yours. Not sure if this situation calls for that or not.
I exactly know your need cause last week I passed through it. I just implemented a complete inheritance model in javascript and as far as I remember, I had a problem with overriding constructors and calling the parent class's ctor when child class is initializing.
So I just solved the problem with modifing some points in my design and it's now working like a charm! (something like C# but in Javascript)
By the way, I don't suggest you to change a method contents this way, but here is a way to do that (I myself did not do that this way and AGIAIN I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT. THERE ARE MANY OTHER WAYS, BUT THIS IS THE EASIEST):

I'm not having much luck with google because I don't understand the syntax used. All the JS OOP examples I find online are in a different format. I'm using the format Mozilla use for extension development.
The object the current method was invoked on is available via the special variable this. Any time you call a method on an object, this will refer, within the method, to the object.

In the last case, val is executed as a free function (a function that isn't bound to an object, i.e. not a method), in which case this takes on the value of the global object (which is window in web browsers) within the execution of val. Global variables are actually properties of the global object, hence val() returns 'global' (the value of the global variable named value). Since global variables are actually properties of the global object, you can view free functions as actually being methods of the global object. From this viewpoint, the last two lines (when executed in global scope) are equivalent to:
window.val = ob0.val;
window.val();
This viewpoint doesn't exactly match the reality of scoping, though you'll only notice the difference within functions. In a function, window.val = ... will create a global while var val won't.

Assuming that you have called init like this:
myExtension.init();
then it should be:

But in Javascript functions are not actually bound to objects and you can call any function on any other object, like this:
myExtension.init.call(anotherObject); // or
myExtension.init.apply(anotherObject);
In this example this within init would be anotherObject, which doesn't have onPageLoad defined. If you want to support this kind of usage you'll have to manually reference the initial object:

Anything you define within the closure is available within the closure at all times, and when implemented carefully will yield private members not accessible to users of the object. Only members that you explicitly export - e.g., the me.xxx = xxx lines - are publicly available.
Thus, when onPageLoad executes, "abcDEFG123" will be displayed in the alert, not "DIDDLED!". Users of the object can modify properties using the dot operator until the cows come home; what's not made public by the closure, however, can never be modified: even if the user reassigns a function on the public interface, calls to the private function from within the closure will always point to the function defined within the closure.
The important part: it unties you from the constant use of this (unless you really want to use it; save your fingers for more important typing!).

When something, being controlled by interaction logic, happens, sometimes i must forward execution to "public" methods of component.

No, sayInternal is not shared between created objects. But you are right, the created objects don't have access to sayInternal as it is not assigned to them. This function is only local to the constructor function.
this always refers to the context a function is invoked in. If you call it like func(), then this refers to the global object (which is window in browser). If you set the function as property of an object and call it with obj.func(), then this will refer to obj.
If you assign a "bound" function to a variable and call it:
var method = obj.func;
method();
then this will again refer to the global object. In JavaScript, functions are like any other value, they don't have a special relationship to the object they are assigned to.
You can explicitly set the context with call or apply:

That said, this approach to assign functions to objects is not good, because every instance will have its own this.sayInternal function. So for the Item code above, every creation of an instance involves creating three functions too, which is a waste of memory.
Making use of prototype inheritance would be a better way:
