I'm trying to get a query value from my url using angular's routeParams.
I've included angular-route in my html page:
<script src="https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/angularjs/1.4.4/angular-route.min.js"></script>
Included Ng-Route in my app:
var app = angular.module('app', [
'ngRoute',
'reportController'
]);
And set up my controller as following:
var reportController = angular.module('reportController', []);
reportController.controller('CandidateCtrl', ['$scope', '$routeParams',
function($scope, $routeParams) {
console.log(JSON.stringify($routeParams, null, 4));
$scope.person = $routeParams.person;
}]);
When I access the following URL, however, routeParams is an empty object: {}.
http://localhost:8080/report?person=afe75cc7-fa61-41b3-871d-119691cbe5ad
What am I doing wrong?
Edit:
I've configure the possible route - my routeParams object is still coming up null. I've tried:
famaApp.config(['$routeProvider', function($routeProvider) {
$routeProvider.
when('/report:person', {templateUrl: 'Report.html', controller: 'CandidateCtrl'});
}]);
and
when('/report?person', {templateUrl: 'Report.html', controller: 'CandidateCtrl'});
Rather then accessing like
http://localhost:8080/report?person=afe75cc7-fa61-41b3-871d-119691cbe5ad
try to access it like
http://localhost:8080/#/report/afe75cc7-fa61-41b3-871d-119691cbe5ad
you will get the guid in $route.Params
You have to set your routes to receive the arguments you want with $routeProvider..
Example:
app.config(['$routeProvider', '$locationProvider' function ($routeProvider, $locationProvider) {
$routeProvider
.when('/',
{
templateUrl: 'someHtmlUrl',
controller: 'someController',
controllerAs: 'someCtrl',
caseInsensitiveMatch: true
})
.when('/:person',
{
templateUrl: 'someHtmlUrl',
controller: 'someController',
controllerAs: 'someCtrl',
caseInsensitiveMatch: true
})
.otherwise(
{
templateUrl: 'someHtmlUrl'
});
$locationProvider.html5Mode(true); //Use html5Mode so your angular routes don't have #/route
}]);
Then you can just do
http://localhost:8080/afe75cc7-fa61-41b3-871d-119691cbe5a
And the $routeProvider will call your html and your controller as you can see with the .when('/:person'.. and then you can try and access your $routeParams and you will have your person there, $routeParams.person.

I am new to Angular.js ....Based on the id, the fullPostController gets the required data using $http, but how am I supposed to pass the postId to the controller?
'use strict';
var myAPP = angular.module('myAPP', [ 'ngRoute' ]);
myAPP.config(['$routeProvider',
function (
$routeProvider
) {
$routeProvider.
when('/', {
templateUrl: 'pages/home.html',
controller: 'mainController'
}).
when('/post/:postId', {
templateUrl: 'pages/full_post.html',
controller: 'fullPostController'
}).
otherwise({
redirectTo: '/'
});
}]);
How do I pass the postId to fullPostController??
inject $routeParams in the controller, the post id is $routeParams.postId
I'm trying to create so-called 'SEO-friendly' URLs in AngularJS.
In my script.js for the routing I have:
app.config(['$routeProvider',
function($routeProvider) {
$routeProvider.html5Mode(true);
when('/blog', {
templateUrl: 'blog.html',
controller: 'BlogController'
}).
when('/page/ideas', {
templateUrl: 'ideas.html',
controller: 'IdeasController'
}).
otherwise({
templateUrl: 'home.html'
});
}]);
app.controller("BlogController", function($scope) {
$scope.title = 'Blog';
});
app.controller("IdeasController", function($scope) {
$scope.title = 'Ideas';
});
To remove the # from the URL, I am enabling the html5 mode with:
$routeProvider.html5Mode(true);
however, this results in the following error:
Failed to instantiate module exampleApp due to:
TypeError: $routeProvider.html5Mode is not a function
Does anyone have a solution for this issue? It means that the content will not display from the views because of it.
Edit: for anyone wondering, the working code is:
app.config(['$routeProvider', '$locationProvider',
function($routeProvider, $locationProvider) {
$routeProvider.
when('/blog', {
templateUrl: 'blog.html',
controller: 'BlogController'
}).
when('/page/ideas', {
templateUrl: 'ideas.html',
controller: 'IdeasController'
}).
otherwise({
templateUrl: 'home.html'
});
$locationProvider.html5Mode(true);
}]);
html5mode method is available there on $locationProvider provider.
You should include $locationProvider in your config phase to make that dependency available in config block & then enable html5mode for # free URL.
Code
app.config(['$routeProvider', '$locationProvider',
function($routeProvider, $locationProvider) {
//$routerProvider code here
$locationProvider.html5Mode(true);
}]);
Additionally you have to add <base href="/"> tag on the index.html page
I'm using routeProvider to set the controller and a route param when my application is configured. Here's the code that I'm using:
app.config(['$routeProvider', function($routeProvider) {
$routeProvider.
when('/person/:uuid/report', { controller: 'CandidateCtrl' }).
when('/person/:uuid/confirm', { controller: 'ConfirmCtrl', }).
when('/person/add', { controller: 'AddCtrl' })
}]);
However, the controller is not being set correctly. Additionally, when I set the controller with ng-controller in the page itself, the routeParams object is empty. What am I doing wrong?
Edit:
I've also tried this, which also isn't associating the controller with the page nor setting the route-params.
app.config(['$routeProvider', function($routeProvider) {
$routeProvider.
when('/person/:uuid/report', { controller: 'CandidateCtrl', template: 'templates/report.html' }).
when('/person/:uuid/confirm', { controller: 'ConfirmCtrl', template: 'templates/confirm.html' }).
when('/person/add', { controller: 'AddCtrl', template: 'templates/add.html' })
}]);
Here's the controller that I'm testing this out with:
appController.controller('CandidateCtrl', ['$routeParams',
function($routeParams) {
console.log($routeParams);
}]);
Try to add templateUrl
app.config(['$routeProvider', function($routeProvider) {
$routeProvider.
when('/person/:uuid/report', {
templateUrl: 'partials/CandidateCtrl.html', //TODO : replace with the good template
controller: 'CandidateCtrl'
}).
when('/person/:uuid/confirm', {
templateUrl: 'partials/ConfirmCtrl.html', //TODO : replace with the good template
controller: 'ConfirmCtrl'
}).
when('/person/add', {
templateUrl: 'partials/AddCtrl.html', //TODO : replace with the good template
controller: 'AddCtrl'
}).
otherwise({
redirectTo: 'Something' //TODO : replace with the good url
});
}]);
I was serving the views by via my web-mvc. I've since changed it to serve a layout and have the partial pages be kept in the resource folder.
I have multiple routes that invoke the same Controller and I would like to pass different variables to it.
// Example
$routeProvider.
when('/a', {
templateUrl: 'test.html',
controller: 'MyController' // should get passed 'exampleA'
}).
when('/b', {
templateUrl: 'test.html',
controller: 'MyController' // should get passed 'exampleB'
});
I know that I could use the "resolve" object:
$routeProvider.
when('/a', {
templateUrl: 'test.html',
controller: 'MyController',
resolve: {test: function() { return true; }}
});
To pass a value as a dependency:
app.controller('MyController', ['$scope', 'test', function ($scope, test) {
console.log(test); // true
}
My problem with that approach is that my app crashes if the resolve object is missing on other routes and I would like to pass optional params.
Is there any way to pass specific params to the Controller (from the route provider)?
Thank you
Routing:
$routeProvider.
when('/a', {
templateUrl: 'test.html',
controller: 'MyController',
paramExample: 'exampleA'
}).
when('/b', {
templateUrl: 'test.html',
controller: 'MyController',
paramExample: 'exampleB'
});
Access: inject $route in your controller then use this
app.controller('MyController', ['$scope', '$route', function ($scope, $route) {
var paramValue = $route.current.$$route.paramExample;
console.log(paramValue);
}
You can use resolve and $route.currrent.params.test to pass the parameter like this:
$routeProvider
.when('/a', {
templateUrl: 'view.html',
controller: 'MainCtrl',
resolve: {
test: function ($route) { $route.current.params.test = true; }
}
})
.when('/b', {
templateUrl: 'view.html',
controller: 'MainCtrl',
resolve: {
test: function ($route) { $route.current.params.test = false; }
}
})
Then in your controller you can access it from the $routeParams:
app.controller('MainCtrl', function($scope, $routeParams) {
$scope.test = $routeParams.test;
})

The most natural way to do this is doing what you would normally do when you want to load a page with parameters: use query parameters: http://yoururl.com?param1=value¶m2=value
ngRoute comes with the service $routeParams which you can inject in your controller. Now you can simply retrieve the values like this $routeParams.param1.
Another way to do this is to retrieve the path with $location.path and set the variable there.
using $routeParams
in Main js file
routeApp.config(function($routeProvider) {
$routeProvider
.when('/home', {
templateUrl: '../sites/./home.html',
controller: 'StudentController'
})
.when('/viewStudents/:param1/:param2', {
templateUrl: '../sites/./viewStudents.html',
controller: 'StudentController'
})
.otherwise({
redirectTo: '/'
});
});
routeApp.controller('StudentController',['$filter','$routeParams', '$location',function($filter,$routeParams,$location){
var StudentCtrl = this;
StudentCtrl.param1 = $routeParams.param1;
StudentCtrl.param2 = $routeParams.param2;
}]);
calling from Home.html
<div class="container">
<h2> Welcome </h2>
Students
</div>
I have a 'route' in Angular JS as follows
$routeProvider.when('/foos/:fooId', { controller: FooController, templateUrl: 'foo.html'});
and it works great, unless the :fooId component contains either a '/' or '%2F' (encoded form)
How can I make this work, my 'fooId' can contain /s ?
You can't easily do this because if you use a link with %2F in it, the browser will just decode it for you and it'll end up being /. AngularJS currently doesn't allow you to use / in $route params.
You can double encode it, like in this plnkr: http://plnkr.co/edit/e04UMNQWkLRtoVOfD9b9?p=preview
var app = angular.module('app', []);
app.controller('HomeCtrl', function ($scope, $route) {
});
app.controller('DirCtrl', function ($scope, $route) {
var p = $route.current.params;
$scope.path = decodeURIComponent(p.p1);
});
app.config(function ($routeProvider) {
$routeProvider
.when('/', {templateUrl: 'home.html', controller: 'HomeCtrl'})
.when('/dir/:p1', {templateUrl: 'dir.html', controller: 'DirCtrl'})
.otherwise({redirectTo: '/'});
});
And the link would be: click here.
Another option, if you have a set number of / characters in your parameters can be found here: How can I make the angular.js route the long path
Based on the answer of Langdon, I created a filter which encodes everything twice, and another one which decodes:
.filter('escape', function() {
return function(input) {
return encodeURIComponent(encodeURIComponent(input));
};
})
.filter('unescape', function() {
return function(input) {
return decodeURIComponent(input);
};
});
I use this in my product links as follows:
<a href="#/p/{{product.id}}/{{product.name | escape}}">
On the product page, I decode the product name:
<h1>{{product.name | unescape}}</h1>
You need not to encode anything here. Just add * in your path Param as mentioned below and enable html5Mode
app.config(function ($routeProvider, $locationProvider) {
$routeProvider
.when('/home', {templateUrl: 'home.html', controller: 'HomeCtrl'})
.when('/base/:path*', {templateUrl: 'path.html', controller: 'pathCtrl'})
.otherwise({redirectTo: '/home'});
});
$locationProvider.html5Mode({
enabled: true,
requireBase: false
});
include
$locationProvider.hashPrefix('');
in your config.
