Polymer v1.0 computed properties not recalculating - javascript

I have this:

and it is not updating when obj_filters is updated
still not updating ever with arguments are != undefined

If I just update the obj_filter :

this.obj_filters = new_obj_filters; // no 'computed properties' are fired.
If I clone the Object it fires just fine:

this.obj_filters = clone(obj_filters); // TODO why clone ??? but fixed!

Your changes to obj_filters need to be made using the Polymer API (see here and here).
For example,
obj_filters[by][title] = true
should be changed to something like
this.set(["obj_filters", by, title], true)
Also have a look at the API description. To find the relevant part, search for "set(".

I've found two more issues that cause your problem.
First declare your computed property as follows (note the *).
filters:{
computed: 'getFilters(data,byArray,obj_filters.*)'
},
Second, when you call this.set(["obj_filters",by,title], true); for the first time obj_filters.by has not been defined yet and obj_filters.by.title can't be set because the path does not exist. One way around this is to initialise it first.

Reference changed before change of reference

What I am trying to do is to switch out an object's property (a string) with a matching (keyed) object from another object where the values are keyed.
So for example...

Using the below code I want to switch out pages[n].data with the matching property in dataRefs. So using a forEach on the pages...
pages.forEach(page => page.data = dataRefs[page.data])
Doing this results in page.data property becoming undefined, even though it should match.
If I try to debug by outputting it to console, I get some unusual effect of seeing the undefined only when the code is added after the output....

Have checked spelling of variables and gone over and over the code trying so many variants but it seems that no matter what I do, calling page.data = dataRefs[page.data] does not work. Would this be some sort of complex race-condition or have I been watching too much Matrix of late?
This is being called in the Component's render() method.
Using Safari 14.1.2, if that helps.
The issue was related with Next.JS. Best guess is that Next.JS was pre-rendering the data, storing it in some JSON cache file and passing that to the component render function....or something like that.
Using the browser's inspector, a breakpoint at the problematic line page.data = dataRefs[page.data] was only ever triggered once, and showed the data had already been manipulated by the function, before it had been called. Which is simply odd. Removing the line, the breakpoint would trigger and the data not converted.
This leads me to believe it to be some sort of NextJS pre-lifecycle thing, possibly as part of the SSG process.
To resolve the issue and move on, I used a check if (page.data instanceof Object) return; to stop it from running twice, which seemed to do the trick. Not ideal, but without a better reason, this will have to suffice. So the code ultimately went like....

Again, appologies that I don't have the best answer, but this was the only way to resolve it, and since Javascript does not do this normally (have done this sort of thing so many times without issue), it will have to be chalked up to a NextJS/SSG (or some other processor) issue.
Would love to get any NextJS expert's knowledge on how this could happen.

Javascript not setting this to value with apply or call

When creating a function that is using call or apply, the this value stays null when using getPerson. however, when I use apply or call with getPerson it returns the correct person.
Please critique, I am really starting to learn more and more. I am in the middle of a project section so it might be hard to change all the code, but my next project could implement this better.
call and apply are setting to the window and not the object.
I will provide code that is much simpler with the same concept of what I am talking about.

In console I see setting manager and setting team manager to with the correct values.
however when I call xx in console, I see everything else set except for
xx.teamManager and xx.manager
instead it is applying to the window, so if I type teamManager in the console, it will return with the correct person.
If I straight up say
that.setManager('Steve')
or even it works just fine.
xx.setManager('steve')
the this value in setManager is somehow changing from the current instance of the object to this window. I don't know why, and I would like to learn how to use apply and call using that for future reference.
I think the issue is with your following code
fcns[i].call(null,currentManager)
If you are not supplying "this" to call, it will be replaced with global object in non-strict mode.
fcns[i].call(that,currentManager)

From your codepen example, you need to change that line
fcnset[0].apply(that,[randomName]);
The first argument of the apply method is the context, if you are not giving it the context of your method it's using the global context be default. That's why you end up mutating the window object, and not the one you want !

Truly protecting data members (of classes/IIFE variables) in JavaScript

Context
I have been tasked with fixing a big bug on the menu-edit page, which was caused by a stale element issue, caused by the HTML elements for it being rendered server-side. In my three-day fight against this bug, I got some inspiration from Angular and decided to try to make a menu state that will power everything on the page (adding/removing categories/items, and later, pagination of the modals for the adding)
Some Code
I came up with this IIFE (to be the "controller" of the MVC. Selector modals hit the add methods of this, and delete buttons hit the remove methods of this. Also, this gets passed to template-render function, which is literally the first thing hit when a modal gets popped):

OK, so what's the problem?
The problem is that this is false sense of security, it seems. When I try to XSS-test this structure alone, it fails.
I test it with three entities in _categories, all of which are attached, causing
menuState.getAllCategories().length
to return 3 and
menuState.getAvailableCategories().length
to return 0. Good news is that when I tried
menuState.getAllCategories().push('a')
menuState.getAllCategories().length
I still get three.
However, when I go
menuState.getAvailableCategories().push('b')
menuState.getAvailableCategories().length
I get 1, instead of 0 !!
Is there truly a way to lock down the other getters here?! If not, what are my alternatives?
I fixed it with Object.freeze, which I already used for refactoring the "enums" the dev before me wrote when he was working on this project. What it does is fully protect a state from any type of changes, including:
adding properties
deleting properties
modifying properties
re-assigning the object/array being "frozen"
How I use it
In the helper method, I did the following :
attached : function() { return Object.freeze(obj.attached) },
available : function() { return Object.freeze(obj.available) },
This prevents the arrays being changed from those methods, thus shutting down this type of XSS. Also, menuState was declared with const.

Creating .json file and storing data in javascript -- using vis.js

In my project I need to save the data to .txt or .xml or .json file. I could not find any answer from vis.js website/issues blog. It might be simple, do not know. Really helpful if anyone help me out with example code. Thank you so much in advance.

If I understand you correctly, you are looking for a way to save data and options of a graph. In my graph editor adaptation for TiddlyWiki Classic I use the following method to extract data (the full implementation can be found in the repo, see config.macros.graph.saveDataAndOptions, here's a simplified one):

However, while this works ok for storing data, this only helps to save options passed for storing explicitly which can be not very nice for some cases. I use this method in manipulation helpers and on dragEnd (network.on("dragEnd",this.saveToTiddlerAfterDragging), config.macros.graph.saveToTiddlerAfterDragging = function(stuff) { config.macros.graph.saveDataAndOptions(this,{ physics: false }); };). I haven't recieved any better suggestions, though.
If you need to get data and options reactively and setting such helper to handle certain edit events can't solve your problem, then I suggest wrapping nodes, edges and options as vis.DataSet and save those when needed. This is related too.
To answer the question about events/other ways to use such methods. Here's how I use them:
I save data after drag&drop moving of nodes, this is done using an event handler. Namely, I introduced

(when drag&drop is used, physics should be switched off, otherwise coordinates won't be preserved anyway) and then I use

As for saving after adding/editing a node/edge, I apply saving not by an event (although it's nice thinking, and you should try events of DataSet, since there's no special graph events for that). What I do is I add an elaborated hijack to the manipulation methods. Take a look at the source I've linked after the

The thing is, addNode is actually called when the add node button is clicked; though, I'm using a customized one to create a popup and apply changes once user is happy with the label they chose.

Can't access children of Konva Stage after cloning

I have a problem with konvajs. I have a konva Stage that I clone into a temporary Stage, so I can revert changes made by a user, when the user cancels.
The way I do this is, that I clone the existing Stage into a temporary one, destroy the children of the origin and after that I move the children of the temporary Stage back to the original and destroy the temporary Stage. The problem is, when I try to access the children now, for example via findOne('#id-of-child'), I get undefined, even though the children exist.
Here's what I've done so far:

Now when the user opens the toolbox to change something, the current stage is cloned with the "clone" function and when the user cancels his changes, the "restore" function is called with the cloned stage as parameter.
But after that when I try to do things like the following they do not work as expected.
some_child_of_the_stage.getLayer(); -> returns null
var edit_layer = this.stage.findOne('#edit-layer'); -> returns undefined
But the "some_child_of_the_stage" does exist and has a layer of course and the stage has a child with the id "edit-layer".
Me and my colleague are at our wit's end.

It is better not to touch attrs property of a node and use public getters and setters.
Konva has special logic for storing id property. Selector by id #edit-layer may not work because of direct access to attrs id.
You can use name property fo that case.
