Javascript onclick requiring two clicks - javascript

I have this box that transforms in a bigger box when clicked (getting class).
But it is taking 2 clicks, and not only one as it was suposed to take.
.clientes {width:170px;height:27px;background-image:url('../imagens/clients.gif');-webkit-transition:1s;}
.clientes-clicked {width:356px !important;height:154px !important;background-image:url('../imagens/clients-big.png') !important;-webkit-transition:1s;}
<script>
var clientesclick = function(){
$('.clientes').on('click', function(e) {
$('.clientes').toggleClass("clientes-clicked"); //you can list several class names
e.preventDefault();
});
}
</script>

You're making this more complicated than it needs to be. You could simply do:
$('.clientes').click(function(){
$(this).toggleClass('clientes-clicked');
});
A fiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/64XQ3/
And, as was pointed out above, your jQuery should be wrapped in
$(document).ready(function(){
// code here
});

Try it like this
<script>
$(document).ready(function() {
$('.clientes').on('click', function(e) {
$('.clientes').toggleClass("clientes-clicked"); //you can list several class names
e.preventDefault();
});
});
</script>
Not too sure why you are assigning it to a variable but it would not run right away, instead it will be executed when you call that method (I guess this is first click) and then afterwards your dom elements will have the event (second click).
Using $(document).ready it will run once all the dom is ready, then when you first click on your elements they should already have the event

jquery multiple click event in one click event

i used this below function...for each id i call one function..i call only one click function at a time so i need to use single click function for this..
.append($('<a>',{'class':'list-header','id':'call1','name':'name','value':'1'}).append('1'))
.append($('<a>',{'class':'list-header','id':'call2','name':'name','value':'2}).append('2'))
...
...
...
.append($('<a>',{'class':'list-header','id':'call7','name':'name','value':'7'}).append('7'))));
$('#call1').click(function(){
});
$('#call2').click(function(){
});
...
...
...
$('#call7').click(function(){
});
i have use seven function above..i will call only one function at a time. so i need to do it in a single function..
how to do it?
You can simply use the class for that, which you already have :
$(document).on('click', '.list-header', function(){
alert(this.id);
// Your code goes here
});
Also, you need to use on method here, since the links are dynamically added here.
you can try
$('#call1, #call2, #call3, #call4,#call5,#call6,#call7').
click(function(event){
if($(event.target).attr('id')=='call1'){
/* specific code for call1*/
} else if($(event.target).attr('id')=='call2'){
/* specific code for call2*/
------
});
Attach click event for all objects by class selection.
$(document).ready(function() {
$(".list-header").click(function(clkEvt) {
var ClickedAtag = $(clkEvt.target);
alert(ClickedAtag.id);
});
});
ClickedAtag is the element that clicked by the user. You can use this object to do any unique function for the clicked element.

Trigger event on specific condition

I have a div that will serve as container to other element, I have buttons that add element to that div.
Please see the demo for a get an idea about it.
So, what I want to do is to check before adding a new element is the div reached a maximum number of elements that I define, let's say 4.
I can check this condition before every add, but I am sure this is not the best way (we learned that if the code contains copy/paste then is not the best solution) Also, this is just a sample, in my case, I have many buttons..
Is there a way to have a listener like this?
$('#container').bind('divFull', function(){
//My code
});
So that I can disable buttons..
First, you have to listen to DOM change event, then you can trigger a custom event based on the number of children
$('#container').bind('DOMSubtreeModified', function(){
if($(this).children().length>=4){
$(this).trigger('divFull');
}
});
then you can bind to your custom divFull event
$('#container').bind('divFull', function(){
alert('container is full');
$('button').prop('disabled',true);
});
a working demo based on your example
I change a bit the #skafandri method because the event DOMSubtreeModified doesn't work on IE < 9 and it's depreciated.
The main change is to create a function which will call the divFull event if their is 4 children in the container.
var checkFull = function() {
if ($container.children().length === 4) {
$container.trigger('divFull');
}
}
$('#button1').click(function(){
$container.append('<div class="element">some text</div>');
checkFull();
});
Here is the demo.

How defined in jQuery was it a regular click on the same element or double-click?

How can I define in jQuery was it a regular click on the same element or double-click?
For example we have element like this:
<div id="here">Click me once or twice</div>
And we need to perform different actions after regular click and double-click.
I tried something like this:
$("#here").dblclick(function(){
alert('Double click');
});
$("#here").click(function(){
alert('Click');
});
But, of course, it doesn't work, everytime works only 'click'.
Then, some people showed me this:
var clickCounter = new Array();
$('#here').click(function () {
clickCounter.push('true');
setTimeout('clickCounter.pop()', 50);
if (clickCounter.length > 2) {
//double click
clickCounter = new Array(); //drop array
} else {
//click
clickCounter = new Array(); //drop array !bug ovethere
}
});
Here we tried to set the interval between clicks, and then keep track of two consecutive events, but this have one problem.. it doesn't work too.
So, someone knows how to do this? or can someone share a link to the material, where I can read about it?
From QuirksMode:
Dblclick
The dblclick event is rarely used. Even when you use it, you should be
sure never to register both an onclick and an ondblclick event handler
on the same HTML element. Finding out what the user has actually done
is nearly impossible if you register both.
After all, when the user double–clicks on an element one click event
takes place before the dblclick. Besides, in Netscape the second click
event is also separately handled before the dblclick. Finally, alerts
are dangerous here, too.
So keep your clicks and dblclicks well separated to avoid
complications.
(emphasis mine)
What you are doing in your question, is exactly how it should be done.
$(".test").click(function() {
$("body").append("you clicked me<br />");
});
$(".test").dblclick(function() {
$("body").append("you doubleclicked me<br />");
});
It works and here is an demo for that.
Since, you want to detect separate single double click. There is a git project for this.
$("button").single_double_click(function () {
alert("Try double-clicking me!")
}, function () {
alert("Double click detected, I'm hiding")
$(this).hide()
})
It adds up events to detect single double clicks.
Hope it helps you now.

How to make an <a> tag element to trigger multiple functions with javascript/jquery

There is a link in my webpage, the link itself triggers a function that I could not modify, but I want to make the link, when clicked, also calls another JavaScript function at the same time or preferably after the first function is done. So one click to call two functions...could it be implemented? Thanks
<a title="Next Page" href="javascript:__doPostBack('Booklet1','V4504')">Next</a>
is the sample tag I want to modify, how could make it also call "myFunc" at the same time or preferably after _doPostBack is done.
P.S. the function parameter for _doPostBack such as V4504 is dynamically generated by the ASP user control. So I cannot simply treat it as a static function and bind it with another. I think I could only append some function to it? Unless I parse the whole page first and extract the function name with its current parameters...Since every time I click the link, the parameter such as V4504 changes its value....
Thanks!
You should be able to attach multiple event handlers to a single anchor tag, either with .onclick or .addEventListener('click', function)
https://developer.mozilla.org/en/DOM/element.addEventListener
You can attach a handler to an element click event using plain Javascript in such a way:
function hello()
{
alert("Hello!")
}
var element = document.getElementById("YourAElementID");
if (element.addEventListener)
{
element.addEventListener("click", hello, false);
}
else
{
element.attachEvent("onclick", hello);
}
It supprots all common browsers.
Yes, you can do this MANY ways (I use both $(this) and $('identifier') as you don't say how the functions are bound) :
$(this).click(function(){
my_function_1();
my_function2()
});
Or
$('my element').click(function(){
my_function_1();
});
$('my element').click(function(){
my_function_2();
});
Or, if the functions reside on another object:
$(this).click(function(){
my_function_1();
$('#other_element_id').trigger('click'); //there are a bunch of syntaxes for this
});
Sans JQuery, you can use:
var myObj = document.getElementById('element name');
myObj.addEventListener('click', function(){
alert('first!');
});
myObj.addEventListener('click', function(){
alert('second!');
});
Clicking will result in two sequential alert prompts

Can I determine what was clicked using JavaScript?

Once again I've inherited someone else's system which is a bit of a mess. I'm currently working with an old ASP.NET (VB) webforms app that spits JavaScript onto the client via the server - not nice! I'm also limited on what I can edit in regards to the application.
I have a scenario where I have a function that does a simple exercise but would also need to know what item was clicked to executed the function, as the function can be executed from a number of places within the system...
Say I had a function like so...
function updateMyDiv() {
$('#div1').hide();
$('#div2').hide();
$('#div13').show();
}
how could I get the ID (for example) of the HTML element that was clicked to execute this?
Something like:
function updateMyDiv() {
alert(htmlelement.id) // need to raise the ID of what was clicked,
$('#div1').hide();
$('#div2').hide();
$('#div13').show();
}
I can expand on this if neccessary, do I need to pass this as an arguement?
The this keyword references the element that fired the event. Either:
<element onClick="doSomething(this);">
or
element.onclick = function() {
alert(this.id);
}
Bind your click events with jQuery and then reference $(this)
$('.myDivClass').live('click', function () {
updateMyDiv(this);
});
var updateMyDiv = function (that) {
alert(that.id);
// save the world
};
You don't need to pass "this", it is assigned automatically. You can do something like this:
$('div').click(function(){
alert($(this).attr('id'));
})
Attach the function as the elements event handler is one way,
$(htmlelement).click(updateMyDiv);
If you are working with an already generated event, you can call getElementByPoint and pass in the events x,y coords to get the element the mouse was hovering over.
$('.something').click(function(){
alert($(this).attr('id'));
});
You would need to pass it the event.target variable.
$("element").click(function(event) {
updateMyDiv($(event.target));
});
function updateMyDiv(target) {
alert(target.prop("id"));
}
Where is your .click event handler? Wherever it is, the variable this inside of it will be the element clicked upon.
If you have an onclick attribute firing your function, change it to
<tag attribute="value" onclick="updateMyDiv(this)">
and change the JavaScript to
function updateMyDiv(obj) {
alert(obj.getAttribute('id')) // need to raise the ID of what was clicked,
$('#div1').hide();
$('#div2').hide();
$('#div13').show();
}
use the .attr('id') method and specify the id which will return what you need.
