Basically, what I'm trying to do is create a marquee type thing by scrolling vertically through the banners and then moving each to the bottom after it is out of view. I can't figure out why the banner is being appended six times. I realize that it's not quite complete so don't make a remark about that please. If you have a better suggestion, let me know. http://jsfiddle.net/vCuHc/2/
EDIT: How can I append the top element to the bottom and then remove the top element also?
You have six elements with the same class. This script runs once for each of the those elements.
Change the code that it runs once by appending to the parent div after the animations complete and not at the end of every animation.
It's being called against every element in the result of $('.tornado_banner').
Instead of
function(){
...
$("#banner_container").append(
'<a class="tornado_banner" id="banner_alberta" href="#" style="top:' + elementNum * -130 + 'px"> </a>'
);
Try
function(){
$(this).detach().appendTo("#banner_container");
}
If I understand your edit correctly,
var first = jQuery("#banner_container a:first");
jQuery("#banner_container").append(first);
That will remove the first element while appending it to the end of the list.

I'm looking for a way to fade from one piece of HTML in a div to another piece of HTML without fading out to white (to the background color of the div) first like i'm doing in this example:
The positionNumber variable is just an int with the number (e.g. 3).
function changeContent(positionNumber) {
$('.banner-content-wrapper').fadeOut('fast', function() {
var contentHtml = $('.slidercontent#' + positionNumber).html();
$('.banner-content-wrapper').hide().fadeIn(1000).html(contentHtml);
});
}
This example does the exact same by fading to white first but this is not what I'm lookig for:
Why doesn't jquery fadeIn() work with .html()?
I want to fade directly from one piece of HTML to another. I haven't been able to find any example on Stack Overflow that shows how to do exact that. I know this is not valid code but it's something like this I'm looking for:
$('.banner-content-wrapper').fadeToHtml(contentHtml);
How can I fade directly?
why use fadeOut/fadeIn - why not hide/show
function changeContent(positionNumber) {
$('.banner-content-wrapper').hide('fast', function() {
var contentHtml = $('.slidercontent#' + positionNumber).html();
$('.banner-content-wrapper').hide().html(contentHtml).show();
});
}
I have not tested this - just a suggestion based on the example you referenced
I don't think you should use fade. Try to use Replace.

I need your help at a problem of my Wordpress Webpage. My Wordpress-page is an Single-Page-App with 3 different boxes of content. The left and center boxes are static, the right one changes its content by clicking on links of the other boxes. I decided, to load all the content in the right box and show them with the CSS-command visibility. With a combination of pathJS and JS, i want the URL to change by clicking on the links. So far so good - all works fine, but i dont get managed via my JS-Function to remove the shown-class.
My script looks like this:
<script>
function showDetailContent(showid) {
//suche objekt right_id -> was du zeigen willst -> getelementbyid
alert("1");
var id = document.getElementsByClassName('shown');
alert("2");
id.classList.remove('shown');
alert("3");
document.getElementByID("right_" + showid).classList.add('shown');
alert("4");
}
//var c = document.getElementById('content'); -->do the function :)
Path.map("#/?p=<?php the_id();?>").to(function () {
showDetailContent(<?php the_id();?>);
});
Path.listen();
</script>
The alerts are just my way of "debugging". I think its not the best way to debugg, but i am very new in the world of prorgamming and this is kind of easy.
However, the first two alerts are shown, if i activate a link. So the (first) mistake is on the line
id.classList.remove('shown');
Normally, the right-box is hidden, so that only one content is load.
Do you understand my problem till here?
I would appreciate fast help!
Greetings, Yannic! :)
Look at this : http://snipplr.com/view/3561/ to know remove class pure javascript
getElementsByClassName gets multiple elements, try:
var id = document.getElementsByClassName('shown')[0];
Or iterate through them if you want to remove class from all elements with class shown;
I am creating two divs:
var div_day=document.createElement("div");
var div_dateValue=document.createElement("div");
I then want to add div_day to an existing calendar div and div_dateValue to div_day:
$('#calendar').append(div_day)
$(div_day).append(div_dateValue);
div_day gets added to calendar, but div_dateValue does not get added to div_day, and the script stops there. No errors in the console but it is in a loop and should have more div_days (each with a unique id). I am new to jquery so any help is appreciated.
In my search I have found how to add divs, but not to add a dynamically created div to another dynamically created div.
Thanks for your help!
Kevin
div_day.appendChild(div_dateValue)
$('#calendar').append(div_day)
Something else must be going on (even with your missing semi-colon). Your example works fine here:
http://jsfiddle.net/P4rh5/
But, instead of creating divs with straight javascript, you can do it with jQuery:
var div_day = $("<div>");
var div_dateValue = $("<div>");
$('#calendar').append(div_day);
$(div_day).append(div_dateValue);
Of course, you could do this in a single step:
$('#calendar').append("<div><div></div></div>");
$('<div><div></div></div>').appendTo("#calendar");
Try this and mark it as answer if it helps
I am trying to create an image gallery, I am using numbers instead of left/right arrows. At the moment, I am trying to get it working with only 2 image (i.g 2 numbers)
this is the html . the id page, is the highlighted number
<div class="grid_1 pagelink" id="page"><p>1</p></div>
<div class="grid_1 pagelink"><p>2</p></div>
the first time the page loads, the code below works. so when I click on link 2 the the code bellow runs fine. But then I want the same code to be triggered when I click back on the first link; but when I do that, the page refreshes by ignoring the code bellow:
$('.pagelink').live('click', function(e){
e.preventDefault();
var frame = $(this).text() - 1;
var frames = 240 * frame;
// $('#gal').animate({marginLeft:'500px'},'slow');
$('#gal').animate({marginLeft: "+="+frames+'px'},'slow');
$(this).attr('id', 'page').removeClass('pagelink');
$('#page').addClass('pagelink').removeAttr('id','page');
// $('#book').animate({ left: '50' });
})
I thought that the .live() would do that for me but it is not working.
I hope you could help
thank you
Previous, this is because you are removing the class of link "pagelink" which were used to map the clicked event.
Also, use another class instead of id(#page) to identify the #page link, id might be problem if its already assign to other link. like
$(this).removeClass('pagelink').addClass('page');
$('.page').addClass('pagelink').removeClass('page');
live should work fine. i think you have a bug in your code, and its probably here:
$(this).attr('id', 'page').removeClass('pagelink');
$('#page').addClass('pagelink').removeAttr('id','page');
what exactly are you trying to accomplish with this code?
when you click on page2, the you set the div's id to be page, but now you have 2 elements with an id of page, and when you select that id, you get the first one (ie page1), but you still remove the class pagelink from page2
in other words, the bug is that at some point you will have 2 elements with the same id (and ids must be unique btw) so when you select that id with $('#page') you always get the first one
I have the code below working like a charm:
var div = $('#div');
div.html('<div>one line</div><div>another line</div>');
div.slideDown('slow');
But the problem comes when I need to change the content (the number of lines):
div.html('<div>one line replacement</div><div>another line replacement</div><div>third line</div>')
This transition is too fast. How to animate this?
You can add an invisible span to the html:
<span class="foo" style="display: none">some other lines</span>
And then fade them in:
$("span.foo").fadeIn('slow');
Going by your edit, you may also want to consider:
div.slideUp('slow'); // you may want this to be 'fast'
div.html('some other lines');
div.slideDown('slow');
A wrinkle on Daniel Sloof's answer:
div.fadeOut('fast', function() {
div.html(html);
div.fadeIn('fast');
}
This will ensure your first animation is complete before proceeding. In my current case at least, fading makes a nicer experience than sliding.
Maybe if you put the extra lines into a div with display:none style, then you can fade in that div, something like this (concept - code not tested):
div.html("<div id='next_line' style='display:none'>some other lines</div>");
$("#next_line").fadeIn('slow');
If you want to make it take a certain time, then:
div.slideDown(numberOfMilliseconds);
Thomas mentioned "slideDown(numberOfMilliseconds)". I have tried it and jquery's doc defined the speed in milliseconds is the time taken to execute the amimation.
In that case, 1 line or 10 lines will take the same amount of time to slide. If you know the number of line, perhaps you can add in a multiplier, e.g. slideDown(lineCount * speedInMS)
